In my opinion, you could have gotten more starts from the GB40 if you had read the instructions. Quote "Do not attempt more than five (5) consecutive jump starts within a fifteen (15) minute period. Allow the GB40 to rest for fifteen (15) minutes before attempting to jump start the vehicle again." The way you were going at it with the starting and stopping either 1) It caused the GB40 to fault thus not allowing power to flow. It has built in protections Or 2) as @Muhannad Ammar stated "the car quit turning over, not because of Noco Booster but because the starter internal armature burned out!!!" I have seen this happen with poorly trained aaa techs who are to impatient when trying to jump someone. Best suggestion I can make for anyone using a jump booster.... Read the instruction. They are written for a reason.

The booster is also not designed to start the car without the battery connected. Even a dead battery has around 3 MA of power which is enough to keep the booster from going into no start mode. I have one of these and once jump 18 vehicles at an auto auction, granted they were not all completely dead. I recommend the booster for all my friends.

If you use them like here in Canada with subzero weather as the norm believe me the cool of time is way faster ,I own a GB40 and and use it on a small pickup truck with a 4L 6 cylinders and this thing can boost it sitting in a snowbank more than 4 times ,Noco products are a dying breed of quality products just their packaging shows that this company care about their name and quality of their products ,these booster are like a small brick with thick plastic something we rarely see coming from china nowadays and the quality of their plugs and wires is top notch , and they have a complete line of adaptors, cigaret lighter adaptors ,cable extension, that you can also buy separately, i've also purchased from Noco their Genius Gen1 battery maintainer your can mount permanently under the hood totally waterproof ( even recommended for boats batteries ) you just plug and forget ! Today's cars electronic pull all kind of juice out off our battery even in the turned off state, plus batteries are not what they used to be with all kind of ecological restriction and the use of powder acid instead of the liquid one used before, these new batteries goes bad at the blink of the eye if left to long discharged !

Had you left the battery terminals on and waited for a minute or two, that first jump box would have probably started the car. That being said, 400 amps isn't usually enough to start any engine, by itself. Its called a booster/jump box for a reason, it boosts/augments the existing voltage in a single battery system.

@@Kitearmy Yes but what you failed to mention is that the GB40 won't do a thing with a dead battery nor using it while having the battery disconnected UNLESS the override mode is used. I question the concept of boosting by just clamping on to the battery terminals. The resistance at the clamp points would limit the amount of amperage available to the starter.

I just got one of these yesterday and I read the instructions to it. It said something like if you try to start it the first time and it doesn't work, wait for up to 30 Seconds to try it again and if it doesn't work again, try 20 to 30 seconds later. If it doesn't start even then, I think it said wait about 15 minutes. That's probably why I didn't work several times.

Normally, a car engine system in good condition should start on the first or second shot. When jump starting the battery would be connected, and thus, being a lead-acid battery the power left in the battery would be adding with the power from the portable booster. Once the car is started you remove the booster unit, and close the hood. When inside of the car you can use the 12 Volt utility socket with the USB type charger to top up the Lithium battery in the booster unit. The power would be coming from the alternator, unless the alternator is not working, and thus the car will not go very far on a dead battery. I have the GB40 booster. I just recently got the GB70. I wanted the larger one because it has a 12 Volt utility socket that I use to run an air pump, or other 12 Volt type devices.

Thank you for the video - Couple things need to be known. One, when a vehicle is dead the engine computer doesn't store the "drivability fuel tables" - It may take an attempted start or two to run to idle. Two, NEVER JUMP START WITH THE BATTERY NOT CONNECTED TO THE CAR! Three - Not a truck. Four, where do you live that you can leave the door open over night? Where was the battery run down protection? I am thinking that the battery wasn't dead and disconnected for purpose of the video and made for shock factor.

I just tried twice to start my 2007 Ford Escape using the GB40 booster and it didn't work on my vehicle. The lights on the boaster is working fine, but I get no action when connected to the battery and try starting the vehicle. I tried using the internet address in the user manual to contact the company and it is fake, or someone left out part of it in that manual. I will try something else before getting another battery and wish I knew where the cables are for my other boaster which I got about 5 years ago. I knew it worked and I used it to start some other vehicles other than mine.

If you have an alternator that works (aka just a drained/dead battery), these work beautifully. Even if the battery is totally dead, getting it running is going to get the alternator providing the needed power. You're good. If the alternator dies, it may not matter jumping the car. The alternator may not be creating enough power to keep the computer running. Ask me how I know. I've had 3 damn alternators die in the last year, stranding me. The gb40 could jump it 3, 4, 5 times, car wouldn't drive.

I bought the gb70 and returned it as it would not turn over my old diesel pickup I used to have without batteries connected, despite claiming to start up to 6L diesel (it was 5.9L). I have the gb40 which I have used many times and it has trouble with anything bigger then a 4 cyl in extreme cold (below -20°c)with warm booster. Warmer temps it does alright. I still have a lead acid booster as well and I think it has a little more oomph. Thinking of connecting the two permanently to make a hybrid booster but that might let the smoke out I'm worried

Be advised that these things don't hold a charge for very long. I received mine about 6 months ago, charged it to full capacity and left it in the trunk of my car. When my battery died I decided to give it a try. To my chagrin, the damn thing lost 75 percent of its charge just sitting in the trunk. I have had similar issues with other lithium chargers so I'm wondering if it's just a characteristic of the genre. The NOCO does come with a USB charging cable and a cigarette lighter adapter so I suppose I could just leave it on constant charge in my car but that kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. This thing is also kind of expensive. You can buy chargers with much more charging amps (albeit, much larger in size) at your local Walmart for about half the price.

These definitely loose charge when in the car - That being said this jumper is the most reliable and best safety features built in. I would not take my chances on a cheap jumper
