My sentiments exactly. I had read the book prior to seeing the movie and I had also seen Pacino in a movie called'Panic in needle park' and had been impressed with his performance. I also think Brando was the only one with enough presence to play Don Corleone and not be overshadowed by Pacino. Coppola certainly knew what he was doing.
After seeing Pacino in that role I can't imagine anyone else playing Michael Corleone. Same goes for Brando. As close to a perfect movie as I've ever seen.

Godfather III makes more sense in that context...
Seeing Al Pacino in HEAT showed why directors would fight for him, great actor who played the perfect godfather.
Pacino wanted to play Sonny at first too. Jack Nicholson turned it down the role of Michael. The studio wanted a list of other actors including Robert Redford or Martin Sheen, all great actors but Good thing the director fought for Pacino. It turned out perfect.

I have been a fan of Al Pacino since serpico debuted in the theaters. He is such a down-to-earth and humble humble man and he is hands down one of the best actors of all times. He makes you believe in his characters. My ultimate favorite movie is Scarface when he played Tony Montana.

Nobody else could do this part.

Thank You Francis
His best role.... Michael Corleone has got to be one of the best characters ever! And his character transformation was an epic one
It's crazy nobody wanted him in the role and he didn't get parts from this insane. He's an absolute legend and has been in so many classics I couldn't imagine anyone else in that role like Pacino.
FFC: "Al, you're as crazy as a shit house rat. I need you for this part." Al: "I don't want to do this." FFC: "Go with that instinct. You'll be perfect." 😂
It would have been a Completely different movie with another actor. He’s beyond iconic. Al Pacinlo ooks so much like my Papa at various ages.
Performance of his career, 3 of the greatest performances of all-time. Part 2 I always thought was his best.
The greatest ever
No one could or would have done it better
And their bond became so strong that they never worked together again

Al Pacino was relatively unknown. Paramount wanted someone with more of a name, as this person would be the face of the series (since Brando and Caan's characters die). Coppola wanted Pacino and fought to get him because he saw him in another role and felt he'd be perfect for it. Directors often have an actor in mind when coming up with characters. This is common and well documented, there's nothing magical about it.

"Once you become bankable, it becomes difficult to discern whether people are drawn to you because they envision a future together or simply because they recognize the financial potential." - Al Pacino
Al Pacino….gorgeous man ❤❤❤
He was the glue.for The Godfather along with James Cann and Robert Defull.
Love this guy
My brother and I laughed so hard when we heard that some studio heads considered the idea of Robert Redford being able to play a “northern Italian”. We still say that phrase to each other. 🤣🤣🤣

Absolutely true! The director is the visionary for who they want for a movie!
Francis was spot on.
He made the right choice. He was excellent for the part.
NO BODY could have played that role any better!
Ironically the first time I saw Godfather and Pacino character, from my first impression of Pacino I thought he was a horrible idea, now as the movie went on i realized pacinos was too perfect for the role.
March 7TH OH NO AL MICHAEL WAS YOU NO OTHER ACTOR WOULD HAVE BEEN AS AUTHENTIC AS YOU WERE AS MICHAEL IM SO HAPPY YOU SAID YES AS THATS THE ONLY REASON AND JAMES CANN THAT I WATCHED THIS AMAZING CLASSIC ❤👍
He played the role beautifully. Great cinema.
Pacino as Michael in GF2- sexiest man alive!!
One thing that bankability can offer an actor is great scripts coming his way to choose from.
Al pacino is the kind of guy that woman would love money ,no money, young or old, fat or thin. Look at all the woman he been with, he's Such a stud❤
I can't imagine anyone else doing that part in the Godfather. My all-time favorite movies 1,2, and 3
They originally wanted De Niro for the role of Michael. Glad Francis held his ground.
And nobody can replace Al as Don Michael Corleone
Al Pacino, his a natural born Actor 👏👏👏👏👏both him and Robert di Niro
Francis is not just a top filmmaker, but the greatest eye for talent (maybe) in cinema history. Nobody but him had any idea that Al Pacino was Michael Corleone (even Pacino). Look how many big careers came from The Outsiders!
Total Americana!!!
Franchise was a genius
I wonder if that's a reference on Seinfeld when George says referring to his relationship "just when you think you're out, they puuuuull me back in"
The Godfather without Pacino isn't a movie I'd want to watch.
No one could ever embody Michael Corleone as Al Pacino does!!
The irony in the fact that Paramaount now has all the godfather movies
Great vid 🔥❤️
Best acting ever
Yes you can bank the movie. But your one of the best actors to grace this earth
The most intelligent and articulate actor ever.
He looked way too handsome
And the rest is history. What a Legend.
Thank God for Coppola

Best choice ever, who else could have ever played that part better than Pacino
He should have turned the 3rd one down , but the first two were iconic !
Wow.......Excellent
I watched the GOD FATHER 10 TIMES or more. Each time it was like It was the first time
Best move Francis made Al you are the best
I can’t imagine anyone else playing that role other then Al Pacino
He’s got that 80s rock hair
When you consider the fact that Francis Ford Coppola was young and a relatively new director himself you see he had the vision and the guts to back what he saw, which studio heads couldn't see.
