Noam Chomsky at United Nations: It Would Be Nice if the United States Lived up to International Law

democracynow.org - After world-renowned scholar Noam Chomsky gave a major address on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the hall of the United Nations General Assembly last week, Amy Goodman interviewed the world-renowned linguist and dissident before an audience of 800 people. Chomsky spoke at an event sponsored by the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. “One important action that the United States could take is to live up to its own laws. Of course it would be nice if it lived up to international law, but maybe that's too much to ask,” Chomsky said.

+Tobberz His views on governments are extremely cynical but once you read and watch more of him and get to know his reasoning, it does make a lot of sense. Why would institutions ever be anything except extremely cynical and selfish? They are not people with conscience or even consciousness. They are mechanical systems with the goal of survival at all costs; usually through oppression of individuals. Fight on and power to the people!

The current human right violations being committed by the Israeli govt and being backed by the United States is a continuation of what they’ve done in the past. In this moment it is very scary because 6500 Palestinians have died, and 2 million people are under siege without food, water, or electricity.

Of course it would be nice if it lived up to international law, but maybe that's too much to ask,” Chomsky said. In a country set up for and managed by an elite, law is disposable. As are the human beings bludgeoned by the lack of morality that mode of operation espouses.

I have lots of respect for this man for his bravery and fighting to stand for human rights and the hypocrisy of the White House when it comes to Israel. Professor Chomsky singlehandedly changed my mind and belief that not all Jews are bad or evil as I once believed. He and Prof. Norman G. Finkelstein are even more outspoken than the staunchest Muslims on the Israeli Palestinian conflict which takes a lot of courage in the face of criticism of being called an Antisemitic.

Very engaging and thoughtful commentary on the Palestinian and Israeli war. I agree with everything Chomsky's opinion about the conflict. Most sane people recognize that the Palestinians have rights and have the right to occupy Palestine. The Israelis believe not only in destroying Palestinians but I think their hatred stems to the hatred of anyone who disagrees with them. Calling for the resignation of the UN secretary general by the Israelis is a clear indication of their arrogance and intolerance to anyone who opposes their tyranny!I am in opposition to the United States government who breaks agreements Just like the Israelis do. It's a non- humanitarian view of a terrorist! They claim being victims when they have been victimizing people. Most of the population in Gaza are children because the Israelis have killed off the majority of adults. Baby killers is the worst kind of murderer there is!

He just had to be paged so that he could fuss around several times and yak something to somebody about something trivial while Chomsky was talking a lot of sense. When he wasn't being distracting, this fool couldn't even hide his boredom at what Chomsky was saying. You could be forgiven for thinking he was a paid distraction, but of course anybody who can follow Chomsky's train of thought is going to have enough intellectual stamina to be able to shrug off such distraction for what it is. What on earth was his function there, one has to ask?
