When you have a genuine question and google it and get a very condescending answer

When you've been asked the same question hundreds of times, maybe you'd be a little jaded about it

Thanks!
my only question is: if I'm making, let's say, one cosplay and that's it and I don't know when I'll get the chance to make another one, is it worth buying a heat gun for basically one use and then I don't know when? I'm not saying it's better to use the hairdryer cause this video perfectly proves that it's not LOL but there must be some easier method, right?

Heat guns cost about $25, so it's really not a huge cost, and it's very necessary for bending foam or manipulating thermoplastics.

@@sayakat yeah I know, I found them at around 25€ too, but that's quite a cost for me, so I'm thinking if for my use it's really worth it, thanks again

If you have an iron for clothes I've read that that helps since it heats it up and then u can mold it. Apparently setting it on low first then medium does the trick and then high for sealing it. Although test this on a small piece first as I myself have no done it yet
I have a small Chandler heat gun, and hope to heat-mold EVA foam (for luggage stiffeners, for example.)

If it's a heat gun and gets hot enough, it'll work
Could I use an iron?
how would you heatseal a really big piece of foam? like a one peace shield or armor? having an issue with patching.
@sayakat

Heat gun it thoroughly all over the entire surface
that helpful my sis
Can I use a clothing iron to heat it up then bend it? They can get very hot.
@sayakat
Жыл бұрын
Yes you can but it's tricky and you have to be very careful because the foam will burn easily that way
Heat scorching can be a great effect ;)

Yeah, but it's only if you want it there lol
Hi, let’s say I don’t have a heat gun as a beginner. I’m also sorta young and idk if my parents would want me to use something like a heat gun for safety purposes. What could I use in replacement, or is there’s nothing good enough to use on foam?
@sayakat

You can potentially use an iron, but that gets really tricky, otherwise not much else gets hot enough
I have a question, are cheap heat guns good for thermal shaping? Cuz it doesn't specify if it's made for that purpose, I don't want to buy a heat gun that won't work because it's too powerful or something
@sayakat
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a $25 dollar heat gun is what I use, it's not too powerful as long as you keep it moving over a surface
@kriss3401

@@sayakat okay okay thanks for that? Any recommendations where to buy foam and what type of foam to buy? Is something found in diy stores good?
@sayakat

I buy my foam through tnt cosplay supplies, the link is in the video description, but you can get it from joann's, floor mats from hardware stores, etc
@kriss3401

@@sayakat so even If the foam isn't exactly made for that purpose it can be used the same way
@sayakat
2 жыл бұрын
@@kriss3401 yes as long as it is higher/ish density eva foam, there are other foams like yoga mats which are too low density to use and shape well
Can you use those mini heat gun people use on shrink plastic(for packaging) ?

If it can heat above 200F you should be able to
i have a budget and i can't find a cheap heat gun 😭

Most I've seen from Amazon are 20/30 bucks, you can use a clothes iron in a pinch
what about a stove burner? lol
