NO (YES)! BTS (방탄소년단) 'MIC Drop' Dance Practice Reaction (MAMA dance break ver.)

Ойын-сауық

Is this even real? Somebody pinch me... the sharpness, the synchronicity, the constantly changing formation, the body rolls! Also, this was the first time I heard the original version for 'MIC Drop' (not the Steve Aoki Remix version). Don't mind me focusing on the tiniest little detail not even related to dance in the end... as someone that loves languages, it just caught my attention.

Ya, that's Jimin's Busan accent. If you're interested about the various provinces of South Korea the members come from and the type of accents that they have, you should react to Paldogangsan Explained by DKDKTV. It's a fun song that they wrote about the rivalry between the different provinces in Korea and their accents. Thanks for the reaction. 💜💜

If you see them casually hanging out (e.g., in the SOOP in the living room doing projects/playing) they speak in Satoori (dialicts) JK and Jimin from Busan, V and SUGA from Taegu and J Hope from Gwangju. Guys speaking Satoori is very sexy, particularly the Busan dialect. Gwangju accents make them sound really hospitable. I recently saw some Korean reactors watching clips of BTS speaking satoori and it was so cute. They noted how it's so contagious that even Jin and RM were speaking it (even though they're from closer to Seoul). Most Koreans you hear on TV speak (Seoul/Gyeonggi dialect). Also, native Koreans can't understand all Satoori speakers either.

Yes ‘ji’ is often pronounced as ‘jeh’ in Gyeongsando (Which includes Busan and Daegu) when it comes at the end of a sentence. However, i don’t think it was quite that in this song. I feel like it was just that Jin was pronouncing it in a very honest, clean way (ji), while Jimin was just putting a bit swag into his pronunciation (jeh). Kind of like making the sound a bit more sloppy or something like that. We usually would just say he’s saying his words as if it were an english word. I really don’t think it was his Busan dialect coming out here. It’s just swagger. They never had sung in their dialect unless it’s obvious and specifically has dialect words (songs like paldogangsan, ma city and stuff like that). - a fellow k army who’s lived her whole life in Gyeongsangdo (born and raised in Daegu till 7, raised in Busan since 8! I'm amazed that you noticed how Jimin pronouced his word differently, but that was not Jimin's Busan accent(Jimin is from Busan city which is known for having a thick accent). It was just a little tweak on the ending syllable to make it sound somewhat swaggier. He even changed his voice a little for that. Maybe partey(party) could be a loose equivalent? Appreciate your attention to inconspicuous details😆 Really enjoyed watching your reaction! (Interestingly enough, how Jimin prounced jee(지) as je(제) is actually how you would say it in Busan accent. But clearly this was not the case here. The only song BTS displays their accents in is 'Paldogangsan', where they rap in very, very thick accents of their hometowns as the whole point of the song is giving a shoutout to their cities.)

Don’t know if you’ve noticed it yet but Jimin being one of the main dancers (main dancers are basically the best out of a group and it’s currently J-Hope and Jimin with Jungkook and V being lead dancers so second best dancers) only goes half power when doing dance practices then goes full out in the live performances. Basically he reserves his energy for when he really needs it. So if he looks like his not giving it he’s all it’s because he isn’t. J-Hope and Jungkook have energy to spare so most of the time they go all out in practice. It’s really shown in their coming of age ceremony dance between Jimin and Jungkook.

I really have to concentrate on the others because I love watching V's facial expressions (okay so he is also my bias - pfft). You heard right but these are two different words. V sings geu kkol naji ( 그 꼴 나지 - that is bad) and Jimin sings machi kollaji (마치 콜라지 - like a collage) different meaning and different pronounciation. It is a play on spelling and pronounciation which RM and Yoongi are really fond of.

‘ji’ has the same usage and sound for both, but yes, combined with the other words they mean different things. It’s complicated and I don’t know how to explain it. It has to do with grammar. And the meanings you wrote are wrong. 그 꼴나지 is “you’ll end up that way” and 마치 콜라지 is “like cola(coke/soft drinks)” Yes it is a play on words since they rhyme and sound similar, but you’ve got the rest wrong. Jimin pronouncing ‘ji’ differently is just because he’s saying it with swagger. It has nothing to do with dialect or different words. It’s just swagger on his tone. -native Korean

Absolutely LOVED this reaction and your statement, "that sounded so American " when reacting to their outfits. I was at a coffee house this week and one of the employees explained, "sick fit!!" I immediately looked at my daughter, who is 16, for an explanation. We are Americans. LOL 😆 Thankful to say the lines are becoming blurred for those of us who travel and appreciate international culture. Also, happy to share that I learned a new phrase which made me feel old for not understanding. 😅 We love BTS and adore your reactions!! Well done.

Hah, that's such a cute story. I'm curious now, what does "sick fit" actually mean? I'd probably interpret it as "what you're wearing is looking really good"? Could be completely off, though. I also love the idea of you and your daughter watching BTS (and my reactions) together. 💜

Hi, I am back. Nice reaction. ty. Love dance practices too. =0) The name tags are actually for the camera operators for the award show this was sent to; this video gives them an opportunity to plan how they want to shoot the actual performance! Jimin was marking yes! Oh my god. I was wondering why he was not giving his all at the start of the practice. But your remark makes so much sense. Ty! I am not Korean but I think its a different word he is saying. And during interviews he does have an accent when he speaks Eng. Maybe when he is nervous he has his hometown accent not sure. This is the original song yes. In the remix they added more Eng. There is a vid about easiest to hardest BTS dance practices that was so fun. From there I was able to listen to more songs and look for more dance practices. Love to see them just move to every beat. Sigh. Just gorgeous. This live is just as wild as the practice hope you see it. =0) My fav MV is ON the cinematography is dope. I actually love their choreo there more then the live. They change little parts of the choreo every time they perform that's why I love the original more. I watched the MV so much that I know who is where lol. This is a harder choreo than the original because this was a special performance. They have a choreographer, his name is Son Sung Deuk. Of course each song has different choreographers. ON and Dionysus for example, was choreographed by a 19 year old girl, Sierra L. from The Lab a dance crew from LA. They won World of Dance and are backup dancers for BTS a few times. But Sung Deuk is always with them. He even acts as one of the dance crew sometimes =0p He´s really cool. But I think they do help add things to the choreography, especially Hobi and Jimin and later on JK and V. =0) Fun fact I just learned one member of Stray Kids( 8 member Kpop group) used to be a backup dancer for BTS. He performed in 3 of their harder songs. I think that's so cool. BTS really likes to help and many of their backup dancers are trainees. =0] BTS is performing on MTV Unplugged today USA at 9pm and I believe on April 2nd they are releasing a new Japanese song OST that's in a Japanese Movie and its also produced by Jungkook . I am sure they are working on new upcoming albums too. hugs. -baby ARMY NY USA 💜

"You shouldn't dance with dangly earrings." Try telling them that 😅 I love the dance practices precisely for the synchronization - in a music video or even live performance, there are always cuts and camera changes, so you don't get the full picture the whole way through. The Not Today DP especially is on a whole other level. "I love this part of the choreo." Like I said before, universal favourite. The equipment is fine, here it was just a remote and for performances he drops a dummy mic - he does a handoff with one of the dance team (I hate calling them backup dancers). While they do have their respective satoori, or regional dialects, in this case I believe it was more a case of the tone he's putting on the word, like how you say a word differently to get the mood you want. BUT! If that interests you then you HAVE to check out Paldogangsan, aka Satoori Rap, and the DKDKTV explanation video. It's basically a regional rap battle that started as pre-debut rap line, but got redistributed for all seven of them when the vocalists came along. It's got an amazing beat, and also features one of my favourite examples of Yoongi predicting the future. For a live performance, I recommend the one from 5th Muster.

Hm I don't think that was his dialect (satoori) but lyrics coloration from him, like little twist he added. Members have diffrent dialects but they don't "use" them (except RM and Jin they have Seaoul dialect and it is like a standard way), bc they live in Seoul for like 7 to 10 years now and write, rap, sings in standard Korean. I remember that some of the members even said that now He only use seoul dialect so its hard for him use his home dialect on go like he forgets things and now only when he goes to his hometown and listens around, it starts coming back to him. (I guess it was Suga or Jimin but I don't remember). But of course sometimes you will find some of it in songs or speeches, bc it is part of them. You have Suga and V from Daegu, then Jimin and JK from Busan and this four are from the same region. Then Jhope from Gwangju it is in different region, and RM- Ilsan and Jin - Gwacheon, that both places are just around Seoul. There is song Satoori Rap (Paldogangsan) when they use dialects and it shows differences, and there is explanation video and it is very interesting, it is a must and really fun if you are interested in language.

Loved your reaction...Yes, Jimin has a Busan dialect that comes out sometimes. You may know that their dialects are collectively called speaking satoori, and I find it extremely sexy. There are videos that focus on the different members speaking in satoori that you can watch if you're interested in that. Their voices drop OCTAVES when they are speaking it and I love that! I think I read somewhere that some of them don't really have a dialect cuz they grew up in the city and were taught "proper" Korean???? (kinda like speaking properly here in the US)

Definitely interested in checking that out. I love languages and dialects. Japan has really pronounced regional dialects as well. Since I lived in Osaka for two years, I've been told that my Japanese has a touch of Osaka dialect, but I can kind of switch now because I studied "proper" Japanese at University. Languages are just so interesting, aren't they?
