    with the amperage waveform on fuel pump you could to calculate how many RPM's it was turning the fuel pump and have more evidence if it was turning slow, but I understand you, because you was focused on the amount of amperage and it wasn't normal at all, sometimes some things that we do, escape us, we are humans, always I'm asking me, what more evidence can I have and I know that you are, that kind of technician too, thank you for your videos, are awesome, and your videos keep thinking me all the time and how to do better and better diagnoses to improve in my diagnosis of each day with your awesome ideas, THANK YOU

    Haven't gotten to the end of the video, just wanted to say crank sensors can absolutely be intermittent, had a 94 explorer that had intermittent problem, and it did take me a few months to figure it out, and it was a bad crank sensor, well back to the video, gotta see how this comes out, just ran across your videos, in the middle of binge watching them. Very much enjoying them.

    The oil pressure switch powering the fuel pump isn’t in case of a bad relay scanner danner. The reason the relay turns on and then off before the engine starts is to give the injectors a prime pressure. If you look at the wiring diagram the oil pressure and computer energize the same relay. The reason the oil pressure switch/sensor takes over is because the engine is running. The thing to remember is the computer is just priming the system so the car will start, otherwise you’d be cranking the engine over a lot longer to build up oil pressure to engage the relay before the engine will start. Camera looks good and your definitely tracking down the diagnosis properly. Nice job👍

    The hard part is if you have to remove the fuel pressure regulator. That hard to get to torx screw. Have to remove it to replace injectors. I may just carefully cut it off since the part is only 15.00 on Amazon. It don't even looks like it really needs a screw. I am not a mechanic.... But sure learned a lot watching videos like this. I also have learned how easy it is for a mechanic to have the opportunity to over charge. I've been ripped off a few times.

    Paul, maybe the amp spike would have shown up better when you banged on the tank or after it sits for a while like when you first saw the spark at the test connector. I like that idea :) for checking wiring ,power,ground integity in certain situations. Never fails the Fuel gauge reading Full near the end of video, customers do that when the car feels like its running out of gas, in this case fuel pressure and it needs a pump.....

    Cranking speed sounds really fast.....compression/valve timing issue? But that's only an assumption, which is where most go wrong. Never assume anything. Find a direction and proof test. The PicoScope helps do this. I haven't seen more than the cranking, so I'm waiting for the rest!

    Love your Videos . Such great help especialy OBD1 . I have a 1991 chevy caprice 5.0 Wagon and trying to figure out why one of my injecters is not geting the pulse signal on my TBI . It has fuel pressure. Did continuity test on the 2 wires going to the ECM plug and is good ? Dont get it ? It will try to run on 4 cylinders and when I touch a 12 volt transistor battery to the one injector that is not getting pulse signal it wants to run normaly . So that tells me the injecter is good . Dont get it ? Oh well , back to the car and try the jumper test on my Data Link Connecter that I learned in this video . Thanx SD

    Hey Paul, Enjoyed this one. I watch the repair videos while I'm on the treadmill. So anybody passing by doesnt hear me singing songs while I run, they hear me shouting "It's the f**king fuel pump". Just wondering why dont you bring a small 12V battery with you and hook up directly to the accessory (like the fuel pump in this video). I know that you would have to ensure that the battery could supply adequate current for the device, but this would quickly eliminate the wiring / relays etc. I havent seen many mechanics do this, but coming from an electronics background it seems like a no-brainer to me.

    Paul, I have a Oldsmobile 88 with the same engine. Card does run but very poorly. Symptoms are: skipin,buckin, misfirin. IT'S BEEN IN 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS , after couple days they all say the same thing ''come pick your car we can't find what's wrong with it''. I'm going to try to fixing it myself. I replaced plugs and wires same problem. Any advice will be greatly appreciated it!

    Do a quick resistance test on all of your injectors. They should be 12.6 ohms each. One shorted injector will mess this group fired injection system up badly. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKGp1rCjqJq3dLw.html

    paul I'm not sure i understand unplugging the mass to make it run richer when the fuel pump can't put out the pressure it needs

  • @jamesrossmotors

    @jamesrossmotors

    8 жыл бұрын

    unplugging the mass airflow reverts the vehicle to a base fuel and ignition map. As the computer cannot calculate airflow when it is unplugged it looks at the numbers the engineers have programmed into the fuel and ignition tables that keep tbe vehicle running when there is a sensor failure. To stay safe, the fuel table is generally around ten percent richer than the expected values and ignition timing us retarded. Hope this helps explain

    +John Kenny for sure John, it wouldn't make a difference with no psi, but remember the car was being driven, so it is safe to say that when the pump was failing and low on system pressure, unplugging the MAF helped

    Working on a 1986 F150, on the 5 Volt reference going to the map sensor. I got the 5 volts(Under load),but I also got a ground on that same wire(it lit up my incandescent test light, the other side going to battery positive)This wire came from the ECM to the map sensor. Can someone explain this?

    +ScannerDanner Let's say I'm checking a wire to see if it has power or ground on it. So I hook up my test light to battery positive and it lights telling me it has ground. Then I hook up the test light to battery ground and check it again and it lights, telling me it has power. How is it possible that it has both power and ground at the same time?without blowing a fuse or burning up a driver?

  • @ScannerDanner

    @ScannerDanner

    8 жыл бұрын

    +joeandgod1 It's not possible, unless you're using a LED type light and you are getting a backfeed, also you should be using a test light to check low voltage computer circuits. A digital voltmeter is preferred.

  • @cojones8518

    @cojones8518

    +Olivier Pirard You can also use a clean shop rag dampened with gasoline, doesn't have to be dripping just damp like a squeezed out dishcloth, over the air pipe or throttle body. Engine vacuum sucks the vapors in without the danger of dumping a lot of liquid gas in the intake. Just be careful of the MAF. If it has one I just loosen the clamp on the throttle body way off after the MAF and put the rag over throttle body and stick the pipe back on to hold the rag.

  • @olipirard

    +CO Jones Thank for this answer. I would never tought of using a rag soaked with gasoline.

  • @remodz6385

    +Olivier Pirard I wouldn't recommend it either. That's about the stupidest thing I've heard all day. It would work, yes. But why would you soak a rag in fuel, ring it out and try to put it in your intake?Propane is safe, it won't catch your engine on fire. Just a quick poof. Brakeleen is a bit more dangerous, but if it does catch fire, only burns for a few seconds. I rag soaked in gas will definitely burn your engine compartment to a crisp. One spark from a coil or loose wire or intake backfire and that rag is not going out until the fire department puts out your car. PLEASE USE YOUR BRAIN AND COMMON SENSE PEOPLE, and be safe.

  • @remodz6385

    +CO Jones Are you serious? Please don't tell anyone it is safe to put a rag soaked in gas anywhere near their engine. Why would you even suggest that? Not around here man, take that somewhere else. I dont think Paul would appreciate you putting such a poor suggestion in or around one of his videos.

  • @cojones8518

    @cojones8518

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Nick Schneider Ok, if you feel it's unsafe don't do it. I'm not forcing you. The rag/gas is an OPTION. If you have something else, USE IT. I never said it was safe to do this. Any fuel, propane, brakecleen or starter fluid is only as safe or unsafe as the person using it. As far as fire danger, there is very little fuel in the rag, less than a tablespoon or so, so the fire will be very localized to the rag. Unlike starter fluid that can drip or be over-sprayed onto other parts of the engine. If you don't panic, it's very easy to deal with by throwing a towel over it, grabbing it with a pair of pliers or something and removing it, or using your fire extinguisher. Per your other comment, I didn't say to put the rag inside the intake. I said to put it OVER the intake and hold it on with the pipe.
