    I'm confused. Shouldn't the duvet cover be pinned inside out to the blanket? I think the use of "cover" to describe the duvet and blanket are mixing me up. If you can help me to understand, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    Do the safety pins cause little tears in your duvet insert after awhile? My down insert was $$$ so I’m scared to rip it and end up with feathers coming out

  • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare

    @ASquarePillowIsntSquare

    I’ve never had a problem with that happening and I’ve had the same duvet for many years. The fabric used is usually really tightly woven and strong to keep the feathers from poking out. If you feel that the fabric is starting to weaken you can put the pins in a slightly different spot on the corner, but it should be fine.

    @@ASquarePillowIsntSquare You are actually pinning in the seam allowance of the insert and the cover? Correct? ever had a need to pin on the sides? I have limited frustrating experience with duvet covers - but I currently have one on order and had considered adding additional loops for ties along the sides and bottoms instead of just corners - but perhaps I can use this method and not get so frustrated! Just wondered if you had ever pinned the middle of sides and bottom as well? or if there is no need.................. thanks for a great tutorial! OMG - why have I never thought of this! I've been using ties, which haven't worked well. I think I will need to try this!! Thank you for the tip! Do you usually use a surged seam in a duvet cover? I will be making one soon and was thinking of using French seams. The fabric is thin cotton lawn.

    You basically just lay the duvet on top of the cover with the cover inside out. Pin the corner of the duvet to the corner of the cover on all 4 corners. Reach inside to grab the farthest corners and turn it right side out! Nothing is done to the pins once they are in place :)

    No more than any pin or needle, so no, it’s very unlikely. Also being pinned through the seam allowance and not the face fabric means extra strength and nothing visible on the cover.

    If you use the right size safety pins the risk is almost non-existent. It has never ever happened to me where one unlatched. Once the cover is on the stress on the corners is minimum.

    Well, I will say that the corners do not take a lot of stress, and I've never had a pin come undone in decades of using this method. Even if a safety pin were to open, it wouldn't release from both layers, but you certainly shouldn't use this method if you think it is unsafe.
