    My Fertilization routine for 80L planted tank based on Seachem Flourish range: .: Week 1 :. Monday: 5ml K Wednesday: 2ml Fe + 5ml K Friday: 5ml K Saturday: Partial water change 20-50% .: Week 2 :. Monday: 5ml K Wednesday: 2ml NO3 + 3ml PO4 Friday: 5ml K Saturday: Partial water change 20-50% .: When I'm out :. Monday: Flourish 2ml Wednesday: Flourish advance 5ml Friday: 5ml K Saturday: Partial water NONE Since the dosing pumps are of 1ml, I adjusted the dose of each product according to my needs and plant's mass.

    On Week 2 you only dose NO3 and PO4 once? That puts for N 0.4(1.7ppm NO3 equivalent) and PO4(0.16ppm) dosing well below the targets you posted above as it biweekly. @Filipe Oliveira?

  • @jordangeller5257

    @FIlipe Oliveira is what you posted correct? You only dose Macros on Wednesday in Week 2 every two weeks. Just one day every two weeks and only 2ml NO3 for 80 litres? That would make your N dosing 0.2ppm/week which is much lower than the Seachem reccomendations.

    I’m thinking too about what kind of water are you using. Because this factor changes the concentration of micros and also of nitrate, so the dosing will not be the same.

  • @FAAOAquascaping

    @FAAOAquascaping

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it's correct! This is what I dose. I don't follow EI levels, I just want to be sure I provide some macros to let the plants take everything fast and grow a bit, then they will stay longer under the light to achieve nice colouration. I use tap water, so no need to use buffers and Trace elements. If you use RO water, be sure you add them after water changes.

    I use tap water on my water changes when I'm home, if I'm out, I change a bit my fertilization routine to provide the nutrients replenish on my water changes, but that is explained in the video and in the post above.

    Exactly, no patience!!! Sometimes they are on the right track but don't wait time enough to see if the results are better. People freak out when they get a few algae, then they keep changing their routines when most of the situations it's nothing related to fertilization but just poor circulation that doesn't let CO2 reaches same spots as before.

    Is not so difficult, people don't check the labels and the composition of each fertiliser. Per example for some people the normal Flourish is just iron and micros... And if you check the label, what is really inside, it's a complete blend of nutrients. It works just fine...

    Thank you so much for taking the time to help us. As a new hobbyists, these challenges are daunting. It helps greatly to have the insights you shared here. All the information in the world will not stop us from hitting failures along the way, but it sure can make us better prepared and more empowered in the face of an obstacle. Many thanks. We strive to be caretakers of these fish. For me, the plants are hopefully making my fish more comfortable and happy. I want their lives to be as good as possible. That goal evolves into a larger target over time. It becomes an art and a passion. You have my respect for the skill you bring. Maybe one day I can achieve a tenth of what you do. One can dream! 😂 Happy scaping

    You just need to add more and more plants to your tank and be sure they are suitable for the light conditions. Light can be an issue for a lot of people because they think they have enough intensity and it's not... More demanding aquatic plants will not thrive in the tank and tend to die. That doesn't mean you have an issue, you just need to select well the plants that will thrive well under low light conditions 😉

    Experimente e adapte a fertilização ao seu áqua. Não é difícil, as pessoas é que tendem em dificultar as coisas, principalmente quando alguma alga aparece e muitas das vezes não está associada à fertilização, mas sim ao CO2 ou iluminação.

    Just use some root tabs and do some lean fertilization. You can use the entire Flourish range of products case you want, but once you place the root tabs, just dose what they suggest only once or twice a week depending on the plant mass.

    Very informating content. I use fertilisers in all of my tanks and sometimes I get tired of trimming every third week. I use micro and macro fertilizers from Aqua rebel once a week. I started with recomendet dosage and some of my Red cherry shrimps died, after that I reduced it to half and shrimps are doing just fine.

    You're dosing too much. If you use a good bottom system, just dose half once a week. Or maybe 1/4 twice a week.

I really learn a lot when experts discuss their thought process during their demonstrations, just as you did in your last video about tank maintenance. It's not easy to do a video like that. My previous video I had to neglect my tank for a few weeks to have something to show. Can you imagine, you had to almost destroy your tank to show it and recover it, otherwise people would not believe on you. And even showing, some will say that is impossible! But I will keep that in mind and see what can be done. Thanks

    The best way to know if you are over dosing or just have leaner dose is to have plant indicators. The best plant to use is the Hygrophilila Pinnafitida. It is sensitive to the amount of minerals in the tank, if it has holes you are low on Potassium, if it is growing as a red plant your Nitrate is at minimum (on highlight setup).

    No idea about ADA fertilization, I'm sorry. This can sounds weird to you, but I never used it before. I believe would be similar because manufacturers usually don't make their fertilisers too concentrated to be easier to dose in all tank sizes, unless they have two range of products like Seachem has Flourish vs Aquavitro. Everyone likes high concentration fertilisers but they are very difficult to handle, if you overdose a bit can be a nightmare to solve it... Unless you have a big tank.

    I mix the Neo tabs in the soil. K, Iron and Macros. Each package has a lot of them, so just place them every 5cm and you will keep plenty to use next time. Usually any root tabs last 8 months to 1 year. No need to add more before that unless you notice that your lean fertilization routine is not enough.

    I just watched Filipe's video and the video confirmed for me that I'm slowly growing into a lean fertilization approach with my low tech tank. I'm a Father Fish follower and am experimenting with lean dosage of fertilizers to see what works for my tank with epiphytes. I enthusiastically wanted to let him know about my experience and that I'm doing an aquascaping chapter in the upcoming FF book. But then I read he's not with us anymore😢 My strong condolences for his loved ones and fans, even though I don't know what happened and when💔

    TY Filipe for the information you provided. All your videos are down-to-earth, simple and true approach to aquascaping and I very much appreciate it. Such a refreshment as opposed to most videos out there. I have a question regarding the macros. Seachem Flourish and Advance are very price competitive but their Iron, N,P and K - not so much. Could I just use EasyLife for that? They are half a price here. Not sure about Iron (Ferro) but NPK seem to be very similar between EasyLife and Seachem?

    Thank you , enjoyed listening. I started my scape two weeks ago. Most videos I found suggest doing a water change every day or every second for a few weeks. I went with Amazonia light substrate, co2 and six hours of light per day. Just found your channel so will explore more to potentially find the answer to my following query. I am curious with a new tank set up, how the dosing of fertilisers would work in the method you describe in this video if going down the route of doing such frequent water changes initially.

  • @FAAOAquascaping

    @FAAOAquascaping

    I don't use ADA aquasoil so no need to do massive water changes daily or every two days. You have used Aquasoil light and since the levels of nutrients are low in that soil, maybe you can reduce the water changes too. Each tank is a tank... If you can do the water changes just do it, is not bad... And it helps controlling algae at first stage. I only dose after 15 days, plants need to get adapted to the submerged form, then you can start fertilizing by using the recommended dose once or twice a week. No need to be dosing too much nutrients in the beginning, mostly when you have lot of nutrients in the soil, even with aquasoil light.
