There's not many people who would say what you just did. I hope you've told that person how you really feel now without hoping for any rewards. It won't nullify what you did but it will make you a better person. Wiser than before. Also, you can stop punishing yourself with the memory of them getting hurt. Ask for forgiveness in a genuine way and try to move on. If they don't forgive you then it's their problem(sounds really selfish but it's true). You both should move on and enjoy whatever's left of your lives.
