No Refund, No Exchange Signs Are Illegal

'No Refund, No Exchange' signs are illegal.
According to the Consumer Affairs Division, such signs in stores can result in the store owner being fined and imprisoned.
This law has been in effect since 2000 and the Division was reminding consumers during a webinar on Thursday. The webinar was aptly named 'Know Your Rights as a Consumer.'
The Consumer Affairs Division said these signs are an offence under the Adverse Trade Practices Order 2000 - ATPO.
CAD noted that their rate for obtaining redress for consumers was at 69% for the first three quarters of 2020. They had been able to resolve 300 complaints out of the 433 received from January to September 2020.
The Division had been able to recover millions of dollars in cash and goods on behalf of consumers who were sold defective goods.
The ATPO states that an offender will be charged $5,000 and be imprisoned for four months if such signage is displayed in their establishment.
If the matter comes before the court and the person is convicted, the offender will be charged $10,000 and could be imprisoned for up to two years.

What about going to a grocery parking your vechicle and in their carpark a big Disclaimer sign ..That they are not responsible for the loss or damages of your vehicle while in their compound..Why is this not addressed. You are shopping in at their place of business then who is responsible for the safety of your vehicle or you..
