    @@PassionforSound Hm, are you sure? Look at Joshua Valour, he always puts the reviewed unit's name in the title and the channel is not dying. It's just basic logic... do you want to end up with your last 50 videos with titles like this one's? Yes, I did mean title, what's the point of having it just in the description. Or Z Reviews (as terrible as it is). And before you say those are bigger channels, smaller ones do it too. Super Reviews, etc. All thriving. And you used to do it too. I don’t use many headphones these days as I’m 99% speaker based but I made an exception for the Ada and it does indeed have magic in it. It makes the midrange shine in a way I’ve never heard from another headphone and it’s almost hypnotic. Great review!

    Biocelluose driver as well as the horn design cup which relieves the treble of any weird stuff helps with that. I’m curious how these compare to the defunct Focal Elegia. They were twice the price but they had a really nice smooth midrange but a tinny treble to them.

    I got my Ada today and I have big channel unbalance. But like really big! On a Fiio app on Btr7 could fix it but I can't use it with my Aune s17. Out of the box left channel didn't work at all until I connected and disconnected cable several times. But unbalance is just crazy.(I tried many different cables so it's not a cable) Tomorrow will try to return and will wait for Verum 2 Also box where headphones was packed is very small so pads was really compressed and deformed. In the box also a letter that headphones was inspected and a name of a person who supposedly did it so I just wondering how it's possible that they inspect it before sending and miss such unbalance. So for the price of headphones +46€ delivery, +24 € customs to Germany it's really not worth it! I just hope return delivery will be covered in refund.

    Lachlan, I think you said that the Ada is an easy-to- drive headphone . So perhaps it doesn't need an amplifier. Does its sound benefit from one? If so, can you suggest mid-range or lower priced amplifiers that facilitate the Ada's strengths well ? Thank you very much for this review of an interesting-to-me piece of gear. Cheers.

    Hi Clarke. That's correct that they don't need amplification from a power requirement point of view. However, they'll benefit from quality above a laptop or smartphone headphone jack. I'd happily pair them with a nice dongle like a Simgot DEW4X, Questyle M15 or Dita Navigator. Or, for more desktop use, something like a Schiit or Geshelli stack of DAC and amp, or even a Chord Mojo 2 would be great.

I've only got an old pair of Alessandro MS-1 headphones here so it's not an entirely fair comparison, but having heard a bunch of Grados at different levels, I'd say that the tuning of the Adas is more balanced and their sense of immediacy and control is better. The Grados will be punchier in the bass because of their mid-bass emphasised house sound.

    @Passion for Sound, could you possibly do a video comparing IEM's/headphones that cost around $3000 AUD with a pair of Stand-mount or bookshelf speakers of equal or similar value. I really want to know in general, if spending similar value on pretty highend IEM/headphones, vs speakers, which sounds better? I realise this is a difficult ask since speakers especially vary in sound quality vs value for money but your opinion in general would be much appreciated.

  • @PassionforSound

    @PassionforSound

    Ай бұрын

    Yeah, that's a really tough one! I think the biggest challenge is the source chains needed. You can get $3000 headphones to sound amazing for way less money than $3000 speakers in terms of amplification. Also, IME $3000 headphones are close to the top level you can go while $3000 speakers are still relatively entry level so the headphones will easily win on technicalities. Beyond that, we're probably talking about the feeling of speaker sound vs the feeling of headphone sound and that's a whole other topic 😁

    @@PassionforSound Very true. I love the sound of the IEM's I have except I miss the bass feel. Isn’t that a WHAMMY in the thumbnail? Would love to hear your review on the WHAMMY - it’s seriously good. Btw, I recently picked up an MSR-MV1 and holy crap. Single most comfy pair I’ve ever worn, and is amazing as a daily driver.

    I normally agree, Jim. It does limit the length of time I can wear a headphone when it's on-ear. The Adas are about as comfy as an on-ear can get (IME), but yes - they're still an on ear. 🙂

    Sadly, if the videos don't get views, the channel dies. I've done A/B testing on titles and it's a 100% difference (i.e. double the views) with titles like this. The aim for me is to make videos that pay off the viewer for clicking through so hopefully you'll enjoy the content once you're here.
