Hockey is such a commitment. All the money. All the time. All the pain. The steep learning curve at the start having to first learn how to skate. How many THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of time these guys have had to go through the whole process of getting their equipment on, lacing up the skates. How many thousands of times their family has had to get them to various rinks. To finally reach the absolute pinnacle of your profession and get your name on the crowning symbol of that sport must be overwhelming and, frankly, a sense of relief. Nobody can ever take that away once you've done it.

I watched the whole series and I don’t think they play dirty. I think they play hard.

That's why I love Ovechkin's Cup lift so much. There was a player who suffered long and hard to be standing there. He was screaming before he even had his hands on the cup. Very few people get to experience such an achievement. The sense of accomplishment under near impossible odds of winning... There really are no words.

I remember when Keith came into the league and I got to watch him his entire career pretty much on other teams. Man he was hard to play against. Especially in the early days in Winnipeg. Some awesome battles between the Canucks and Jets back in the day. It’s awesome his name will be on the Cup.

I honestly don't get this sentiment. Maybe because I'm poor and can barely imagine what i'd do with 1 million let alone 8 million, but If I was a Hockey player passionate about the sport and wanting to win a cup, I'd sign up with the specific team I want and maybe even sign up for cheaper. So that my salary wouldn't a big hit on my team's cap. What I can understand is those players who don't really like the spotlight or all the attention/drama that comes with playing on a Canadian team. But not the salary part.

I've played organized sports, ice hockey with former pros, so I know its just a game 'I' enjoyed. Those players making the big bucks, wanting THEIR name on the cup, are certainly happy. Try not to act like you are one of them, a close family member, friend, its embarrassing for them, and you. Immature! Game 7, where they were up 3 games, the Oilers dominated them to tie the series up, and then only won by one goal in a game where they were outshot. It was so close. Lady luck just happened to be on Florida's side that night. Savour the win Florida, because you almost didn't have it.

@@jdog345 the Oilers outshot them. It's hard to argue that they were outplayed. Florida's defense was excellent but yes it took some luck. Florida's first goal took some luck with a no look deflection that got Skinner 5 hole. A few inches either way and it wouldn't have went in. That's puck luck right there. That being said, Florida played awesome, no question about it. The defense in the last 5 minutes was as impressive. Any chance on a rebound was somehow thwarted by Florida. Any other game, they would have been goals, but just not that night.

@@T0mat0_S0up it's not the only factor by any means, but a primary indicator in a lot of cases. Remember the Oilers only had about 12 shots on net when they beat Dallas in the final game. Did the Oilers get outplayed even though they still won? Absolutely.

What nobody talks about is McDavid skirting the MVP award your captain of the Oilers and you broke Gretzky‘s record you gotta show class and accept the award even if you have tears in your eyes, that was just bad sportsmanship class no class no class. Giguere fought through tears to accept it in 2003 and you could feel the pain he was in from losing the cup, but his numbers were extraordinary that year and he he certainly earned that title and that’s gotta be the hardest trophy to win in all sports in terms of individual trophies

Also .. if you were paying attention .. in game 5 when the oilers were up, its the same ref that twice called an "even it up" call on the oilers 30 seconds after they went on the powerplay. Just because you cant see it doesnt mean it didnt happen. And yeah ... Oilers dropped the ball in game 7 ... but Bobrovsky was a wall they couldnt solve. He should have been Con Smythe, he was the real MVP of the Stanley cup playoffs.
