I can't. Maybe my beliefs are a bit strange for a kid my age (since I'm only 11) but lying to parents in our culture is a big NO. Especially since the mother in this story worked so hard for her success yet she wasted that opportunity and instead kept using her money to live in NYC. Also, don't forget that the reason the mother was so protective was out of love. I understand freedom is necessary but have you considered the fact that if Max never asked her mother to have a discussion about this NONE of this would have happened? Therefore no matter how you look at it in every logical explanation it will end up being Max's fault. Your welcome for me opening your mind to new possibilites

Actually Dr. Payton didn't misjudged Maxine, Dr. Payton actually hates Maxine because her mom was her highschool rival. Plus Maxine did crash Dr. Payton's daughter birthday party.
