Steve's project might have failed, but I can tell you from first-hand experience Gibson's NFT's are the real deal. Just last week my Gibson NFT cracked right at the headstock. I'm still looking for a virtual luthier to do a proper repair.

One Vai project that never came to fruition was the whole "Real Illusions" story; that album is Part 1 and there were supposed to be multiple albums. If you partook in the EVO Experience on that tour, Steve gathered all of the participants in front of a camera and had everyone say a single word. At the show I attended, Columbus OH, the word was, 'We.' The idea was to compile all of the words said by all of the EVO Experience attendees throughout the tour and that would be a verse or something to a song that was to be the finale of the whole Real Illusions story. That never came to be as that was back in '05. Cool idea, shame it never materialized...yet at least.

It's more than that. You can build yourself as an artist with nfts having a bunch of stipulations on those nfts. You can be a conman...but you can be a legit business man. I could buy an nft from you that gives me a percentage on something you do.and if I sell it, you get a percentage everytime it's sold. It's a utility. You could build your own studio off of nfts.

Social media marketing is such a huge business now that there are teams of people across multiple industries scouring the internet for the latest fad to jump on. There’s very little oversight now , I can imagine 20 years ago someone in Steve’s team would have had to veto this , but social media is still seen as a dark art in marketing terms so they probably agreed as you said : with little to no understanding.

The "legitimate uses" have no extra utility beyond a secure encrypted password in the first place though, it's quite literally just designed for market speculation (read: ponzi schemes) and drawing orders of magnitude more electricity. The only reason you'd want your password (or other like, "identifying code") to be stored on a blockchain instead of some centralized server is when you don't trust the provider of said server... which presumably you do if you're buying a guitar from them. And on the blockchain you're instead trusting every single little finger in the pie to not straight up steal or delete your stuff as it gets passed along

I guess the guitar community still have some sense to understand that NFT's were created for people who don't know what to do with the extra money they have. For us, that extra $$ is obviously going to guitars🎸

I got a Gibson les Paul and when someone stamped the serial number on, the last couple of letters are only just visible. The last one is only visible at certain angles. Took ages to find a guitar with the top I wanted. Now if it had nft instead as a verification, with photos ect, that could be something a little more easily identifiable as no 2 tops are the same.

Don't come down on Steve this was most likely in Steve's contract with Ibanez as a part of the release of the Hydra. I've met Steve several times he doesn't come across as someone trying to rip his fans off, he probably doesn't care about the NFT either.

No, I'll come down on Steve for this. He's at a level in his career that he sets terms of contracts, he doesn't get bulldozed by corporate lawyers. Ibanez isn't pushing contract terms on him without his consent. At the end of the day, Steve is in charge of his business. Same with Bonamassa and all the tat he sells.

Trogly has some knowledge pertaining to Norlin era Les Pauls. He's pretty knowledgable in general when it comes to Gibson's but the bulk of his knowledge is on Les Pauls from the 70's through to present day. Their are folk who are far more knowledgable but Austin knows his stuff. It's just a shame he's become less humble as times gone by. It's great to see someone do well but this guy won't answer questions in his comments on youtube but will if you pay him via his website. It's a shame these chips develop as time goes by and channels grow.

I'm a huge Steve Vai fan, but the world of NFTs is one that I refuse to get involved with. I'm kind of surprised and let down that Steve Vai got involved in the NFT game. I mean I can get behind Gibson including NFTs with their guitars and used in legitimate ways that are not a money grab, but it would be even better if Gibson employees could tell the differences between their own guitars and a cheap Chinese knock off, which speaks wonders towards their actual quality control issue.

Nft can help directly support new and upcoming bands instead of the bullshit industry ran by money and greed Sure there was great music but it was to the benefit of business not artists and music Support bands and artists you live by giving to them directly Nft is how we drop new are to our fans first They buy our stuff there and get perks that come w different ones Some tokens grant you access to things Don’t judge that which you do not fully understand We are in Pdx Spreading love and sharing music Helping bands Throwing free shows All because we sold our nfts and didn’t sign with a label who takes everything

Just wanted to touch on that Fender video, it looks almost exactly like the graphics in Decentraland, which is a metaverse token where you can buy and sell digital land. So maybe Fender used that to build the “stratoverse” or whatever it’s called. Just speculating though. I don’t see a future for NFTs in music as the concept isn’t clear for a lot of people.

I think there's a lot of applications of digital signatures and storing data on a blockchain for the music industry. You can QR code parts and make it easy to verify their authenticities and trace their origin. Using a merkle tree, you can effectively print verifiable genuineness labels on an entire production lot of guitar strings for a fraction of a cent. But yeah, selling a receipt for nothing for thousands of dollars is kinda dumb.

It's like auctioning off exclusive downloadable content for one person to have with immutable proof on the chosen chain. I guess at some point it might become useful for artists but it seems like selling futures for value of artists. Digital assets in this NFT form seem to be more about boosting scarcity value and less about providing income stream for less well heeled artists.

steve is one person I'd give a buy on something like this until or unless it's a pattern. Knowing what he does and how he operates, it's not even unlikely that he'd be using NFTs to get funding to promote artists that don't get enough exposure. Other possibility is people who make comments "you know, you should do an NFT - I'd bid on it". That - not related to NFTs only, but requesting anything, is usually followed by disappearance. Just like people who say "you put a group buy together for this, I'm in dude. Count me in on 3 of them" A couple of months later: "yeah, I changed my mind, can you give me my deposit back?"

Vai, Gibson etc. are late on the initial NFT craze, as it's already over. It's alright if artists and companies experiment with NFTs a bit, to figure out decent use cases for this new technology. It'll take a few years for NFTs and what to do with them to mature. The Stratoverse seems quite cool. Everything has to start somewhere. It appears to simply be a map for some VR platform.
