The irony is that among Jim's other circle of friends it was No Helping-in-Medical-Emergencies November, and he DID break that one. His thousand-yard stare wasn't because he let a man die; it was because he realized he threw his other friends under the bus for the sake of new friends he just met.

It's actually interesting this isn't a universal concept, seems like it would be one of those common sense safety laws like making people wear seatbelts or not putting landmines too close to sidewalks. The wikipedia article indicates that it is pretty widespread around the world at least though so it's not just a "US concept." In any case it's not a seriously considered or enforced issue, people jaywalk constantly (usually as the first option) and I've never heard of anyone actually getting into trouble over it outside of media where the joke is literally the idea that a cop would bother to fine a jaywalker. It seems like the laws mostly exist to remind people that crossing streets at the wrong time can be really fucking stupid and maybe occasionally to help pin down fault when it does lead to some sort of accident.
I just had to Google Jaywalking and now I am even more confused. TIL crossing the road is illegal in America.

Technically not a jaywall if there isnt a cross walk in a reasonable location. LAWYERed
Dude will never forget that moment on the road, just like we will never forget Joel's untimely departure from this mortal realm.
As someone who has been cited and arrested for crossing IN the crosswalk against the hand signal 🤚 (on more than one occasion in California), this video hit too close to home. I live in the UK and the idea of getting into trouble for crossing the road is just crazy. It feels like a basic right, to be able to cross where/went you want (taking reasonable precautions). Jim walking is honestly the funniest thing I’ve heard all day
This video actually affected me in a weird way. As a child, I once watched a neighbor kid eat a nickel and start choking on it. I didn't know CPR so I couldn't help him. Right before he choked he said "don't tell that I do this sometimes" so I was scared to get his mom. I just paced in place trying to figure out how to help without tattling, rifling through my adrenaline thoughts going nowhere. She eventually walked outside and saw us and she saved him but it destroyed his throat and voice permanently. Outside sound could be heard from inside easily in their house. If I had so much as just shouted once, irreparable could have been prevented. Even though we are adults now, he blames me still to this day. I think about that sometimes...
@yukononun
Жыл бұрын
It definitely wasn't your fault, especially when he told you not to tell. You were a child simply trying to do the right thing. If he can't forgive you for that even now, then that's on him, not you.
It's nice that Joel's friends kept making videos after he was taken from us too soon by that landmine.

I remember two years ago in No Salt November, yup ya Need salt! Rest in peace Gary ):
You're a comedic genius - with a psychological twist.
Yo this video is masterfully done. The setup and then reveal are so hilarious
The thing is "Jay walking" was just a crazy invention of the car industry. Streets were for people, but that made it hard for cars to speed through and reduced their appeal. People were also upset about injuries and deaths caused by cars. So car companies popularized this idea that people crossing the street were irresponsible or reckless; essentially blaming the victims of road violence for their injury. It eventually got codified in some cities laws as well. Time to take back our streets :-)
I thought the ending would be, they all go home and cry because they also let something horrible happen. But this is way better. Everyone saying how it was just a trivial thing, and he's all alone neck-deep in guilt.
I think they were all lying about the jaywalking. They all made it the whole month, not just Jim. So many people died needlessly, who knows what the real death toll was.
Great film as always. This one is particular good. The acting is superb.
”This is extremely time-sensitive” lol. I love the surreal dialog.
I've got a new fun challenge for people to try. It's called "November", and the goal is to make it through November. Like, all the way through, that's the challenge. Are you up for it?

The funny thing is that I thought the direction was going to be that he WOULD jaywalk to save the man's life, and then his friends would be totally unforgiving and chastise him for it.
