Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I actually had to DEMAND that my boyfriend did this procedure. He said it was a waste of time. I had to stand and watch him take off both cables. The look on his face when it started was priceless. Girlfriend diagnoses problem, problem fixed... High five for girlfriend power!!!

I have the 2013 vw jetta 2.5 and Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes fixed mine as well. Unfortunately i took it to the dealership before i found this video and had to pay $125 diagnostic fee for them to tell me they couldn't figure it out but thier recommendation was i needed a new reader coil at the cost of another $565. I found this while i was waiting to hear back from them and told them no on that service. Thank you for the video you saved me some money and a huge headache!

Lacie Smith not a problem! Glad it helped! :) You may continue to get the error in the future. If hitting the lock or unlock button does not help, just do the same thing you did tonight. If you need a full reset, just disconnect the battery for around 5 mins then hook it back up and give it a try :)

Even after getting a second key programmed which I needed anyway but it wasn’t the key that was the issue. This was my last hope before calling the mechanic and it worked, thank you so so much , you saved me a trip and potentially hundreds of dollars just trying to get this diagnosed. I had a 2008 Mazda CX nine grand touring with the smart key.

On Christmas Eve morning, we were starting our 2 hour drive home and stopped to get gas and road trip goodies. We got back into the car and it wouldn’t start for “No Key Detected.” We took the batteries out of the fob, looked through the manual (didn’t look good enough, I guess) and eventually resorted to the Internet where we found this video. Skeptical about the fix being as easy as a hidden pocket in our console but willing to try anything, we put the fob in and pushed the Start button. It started! It’s a Christmas miracle - haha! Thank you for posting this video.

Edit: This did work for me after reading your timely response...Thank you! This did not work for me.... changed the keyfob battery too....it gives "no key detected" & "incorrect key ID" messages. The keyfob still operates the locks, trunk, radio, etc, ....it just won't start. If you push the start button with the key, it will attempt to start with just clicking noises. Also, I had the battery disconnected long enough to lose the radio presets

@@therep49er I thought the battery was good cuz my nephew checked the volts with a multimeter, but sure enough, that was the problem. After reading your reply, I tried jumping the car with my truck & got a slight amount of rotation & no "wrong key" messages. Left it hooked up for 5 m8nutes with the same result so I put my daughter's Altima battery in & it fired right up! Thaks so much from your newest sub👍👍

No special tools needed. You either need a 3/8 or 1/2 inch wrench, or in metric sizes a 10 mm or 13 mm wrench. Most tool sets nowadays come with both. You want to use the one that is most snug on the nut or bolt. You can use a ratchet and socket or wrenches, whichever fits easiest.

Thanks for the video. This is the 4th time I have had this issue on our 2015 Edge. First two times the Dealer couldn't find anything, 3rd time, they replaced the battery in the vehicle. I have replaced the batteries in the FOBs several times. I get the "No key detected error" at times then I get the "Press the brake error" all of the time now while I am actually pressing the brake. I have tried placing the FOB into the "by-pass" slot with no luck. I will try to pull the battery cables off at lunch. If that doesn't work, my next decision will be to decide on what wall to bang my head against.. Any ideas what would fix the vehicle?

Sorry you are having a rough time with your vehicle. My best guess and it purely a guess, since everything you listed has been done, the only thing that remains that I can think of would be some type of electronic or computer component in the car. If it is that, hopefully it is a warranty repair. Since this happened in my car, I have not had many or any issues like I was prior to disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. The issues I did have after resetting everything were likely because I walked too far from the car with the keys. In which case it was responding properly. Best of luck, hope the reset remedies your issue or that it is a warranty repair.

Unfortunately, this does sound like a mechanical issue. If the fob works for lock/unlock but not starting, I would bet it is the fob or the part that receives the signal for starting. That is a best guess though. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. Please check back and let us know what the issue ends up being.

Had this issue with my 2010 Taurus Limited Intelligent Access Key( push button start) so I changed the fob battery and the car battery and still kept getting no key detected. Well i ended up finding the problem and it was the wiring harness under drivers seat. My driver seat moves every time i get in or out of car and that harness moves also since its clipped to bottom of seat and over time it caused a wire to sort. This harness comes from the center console to the bottom front of driver seat and its part of the cars immobilizer module that under center console. I found the short by luck and by putting my hand under seat and moving harness and when it moved the right way it registered my key and started

@@user-dn9kk9qu5y Hello from the USA! You can absolutely try this method. It is no different than replacing your car battery. Have you replaced the battery in your key fob? That could also be a potential issue. As to why this happens, well... I don't know 100% why. But, my best guess is that auto makers don't know every potential issue that will arise. There are many rigorous tests that go into vehicles. But, things pop up that nobody thinks of. This issue may be one of those things. After posting this video, this issue has been seen in a variety of cars from many companies. So I know it is not isolated to one company.

I have a 2014 Lincoln MKS. I have an intermittent problem with both keys. I have new batteries in both fobs. Sometimes, I cannot open the locks with the touch sensor, sometimes I can. I can unlock the car with the fob from 30-40 feet away, so it has a good signal. When I get into the car again sometimes, I get the "No Key Detected" Error. When this happens, while sitting in the car, I use the fob to unlock/relock the car doors and it usually starts right up afterwards. I do not have any issues starting the car (when the key is detected), so I do not think my car battery is going out. I will disconnect the batty to reset the system, but I do not think this is the problem since it is intermittent. I disconnected the auto battery and place it on a trickle charger to top it off (suggested from another video). After 5 hours, I cleaned the terminals and hooked everything back up. Did not fix. I have the same issues with both keys. Suggestions, thanks.

If you checked the fob battery, disconnected the car battery for a few minutes, then it is possible you might have to reprogram the key. If you have a spare key, try using the spare and see if the issues persist with the spare key.

Make sure your key Fob battery is good. Your car battery has an "acceptable range" for its specs of CCA (cold cranking amps) and physical size that will fit in the car. Along with some other things. But, the CCA and physical size are the most common concerns. Top or side post doesn't make a difference. All that matters there is getting the same post style battery so you don't have to change connections.

This is also true for 2018 Chevy Silverado, 2019 Toyota Highlander, 2008 Jeep Patriot, 2013 Chevy Malibu, 2009 For Escape, 2012 GMC Acadia and Many other cars. 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, you do run a risk of losing radio stations and triggering the anti theft system.

If you have replaced the batteries in both key fobs and the problem is persisting, (if it were me and my vehicle) I would try disconnecting both car battery cables and letting it stay disconnected for 5-10 minutes. Unfortunately without your key, your only option is a tow truck to get it home or to a dealership/mechanic. The dealership can likely make you a new key based off your VIN number. A mechanic can possibly replace your whole ignition tumbler. But, if you need the original key for anything else (trunk, doors, gas cap ect.) you will still need the original key. So, best advice if your car is not already at home, get it towed to your Nissan dealership of choice and have them make you a key... Better yet, 2 keys. If the car is at home, get your VIN #, call the dealership and tell them your VIN and request a key. This may take one day... or 5 or 10? It just depends on what their process is and what they need to do.

key bro! crazy this was the first video I've watched, very brief, my 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3 v6 AWD, the key goes in the ignition but won't turn not even to the on or acc position. It's been 3 days we had a cold snap of -42 no problems really not sure if you have caa or Ama here in Canada, but they are booked like three days ahead and correspondence is how i have had to deal with them. I read the manual it said the same thing about the batter, my immobilizer or theft system which I have never had a problem with is why I searched out a video like this. Another way to reset I read was taking out the fuse for the immobilizer would reboot the system, but if this sounds like your method would work that would be great. Let me know if going to where my car has been parked the last three days and taking the positive and negative off like you did for 5 min and putting it back should do the same thing. So glad you made this video kinda excited to try it tomorrow been without a ride sucks and the day it just stopped never did anything different than I usually do and this came to be, and! the next day I was cleared to drive for Uber so that sucked that I haven't been able to do that. By the way the temp her last night was -30 and has dropped now to - 10 and minus 2 tomorrow so if you could respond back to me that would be solid. Cheers, for now, thank God for people like you making these vids dealerships make to much money.

I am not 100% positive that this will work for your vehicle or not. Sorry you are having troubles. What I will say is, I know it won't hurt anything. This method is no different than actually changing your car battery all together. The battery is disconnected for about the same time and the vehicle resets many things when you change the battery. I don't have much experience with foriegn cars (I am more familiar with Ford, GM and Chrysler). But a few other people with foriegn cars have found success with this method. Crossing my fingers this works for you as well!

One other thing you might try is a different key. I know some cars with anti theft sometimes "forget" which key goes to the car. If that happens you need to have the key reprogrammed or order a new key from the dealership using your VIN#. If you try with your second/spare key and the car works, try with your normal key again. If the normal key still doesn't work, you need to reprogram/replace that key. Hope things go smooth and easy and you get back on the road ASAP!

@@chadolive1 you may be able to swap the tumbler yourself if that is the case? I am sure there are videos specific to your vehicle telling you how to do it.

nick hutson Sorry about the issues. I am not really familiar with the Focus. However I have done a quick search for you and found a Focus forum that "could" be of some assistance. You will most likely have to filter through the rants to find helpful info. I did not have time to really read through and find the right answer as I am currently at work. Hope the link at least gets you closer! www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302180

Ive exhausted all other options so might as well ask here too.. We're having this issue with a 2015 Ford Focus SE and it keeps getting no key detected even though its got a physcial key. When it happens 3 other issues all come up at the same time, doors wont lock/unlock, blinker wil randomly stay on after completing a turn, and the hill climb assist disables.. All within a span of about 10 minutes these will all happen. The only fix seems to be D/c battery but the issue just eventually comes back within a day.. Brought to a mechanic and they checked battery, charging system, and electrical and couldnt find any problems. OF COURSE the issue wouldnt happen for them for the 4 days they had it so they were unable to replicate the issue and troublehsoot with it happening.. Any suggestions please! We've replaced the battery in the key fob as well just in case..

Well... This one is pretty different. Let me do some digging tonight while I am at work. I will see what I can figure out.

Is your Focus included in a "Door Latch Recall"? The dealership should be able to confirm that with just a phone call and your VIN#. A faulty door latch could cause the won't lock/unlock issue. For the "no key detected" since you said you have a physical key, I assume you do NOT have push to start? If you do not have push to start, do you have a spare of the physical key? If so, try the spare and see if the problem persists. Physical keys for that car still have a chip that transmits a signal when needed. If that chip is malfunctioning OR the vehicle has an electrical system issue, it can cause the no key detected issue. There is also potential that the keyless entry module is starting to go bad. Are you the only owner of the vehicle since it was new? Has it ever been in an accident? If you bought the car used, did it have a "rebuilt" title? If the car was in a serious accident, that can cause MANY little electrical and mechanical gremlins even after it was "repaired". For the hill climb assist... This also could have many gremlins to chase. Could be as simple as the Brake Light Switch needed to be replaced. That switch might affect your turn signal staying on to? It sounds like you have more than one issue affecting multiple areas of your vehicle. That is why I asked if it was in any accidents. I don't think you will get lucky enough to have a "quick fix" on this. I think you have many frustrating days ahead trying to chase and resolve these issues.

I changed the battery in my 2019 push button start Nissan Murano. Now none of the buttons on my fob work! The battery is definitely in the fob correctly. I am at a loss. Please help.

Sorry to hear this. My best suggestion to find out how to "reprogram" your key Fob. It should be in your owners manual if you have that. Otherwise KZread will likely have a decent video on fob programming.

I just drove the car 6 hours ago, and I found that it would not start this morning. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals did not fix my problem. Getting no key detected error. But sometimes the car starts no problem. Already had a new key made and programmed... That wasn't the problem either.

It sounds like there is a deeper problem. I know that you had a key made already, but make sure the battery in the fob is good. Otherwise, you are likely looking at possibly needing the dealership to diagnose/fix the issue.

@@therep49er not a push button start. It is an actual key with a fat rubber grip. Gotta insert key and twist like most cars. Doubt it has a battery... Looks like I'd have to cut rubber away with a knife if anything... Which I will not attemp. When I insert key, it dings and makes all appropriate ignition sounds. The screen in the dash instrument panel runs through its systems checklist and stops at "no key detected" car has power Windows/wipers will work Radio plays Buttons, head lights, brakes, etc. Screen displays "no key detected" and engine will not turn over even once. I drove the car to the laundromat at 3am last night. No key detected 6 or 7 hours later...

I have not personally tried it on your make/model. But, it is no different than replacing your car battery. So, if you give it a try, please check back in and let us know! Thank you for checking out the video/channel and leaving a comment!

Should ALWAYS remove the negative terminal from battery first, then you remove the plus. By the way why remove the positive at all? Only need to remove the negative to brake the circuit, and it is safer to do it like this. 100% sure!!
