No grocery store, no banks...can this small town in Mississippi be saved?

I drove through this small town, mainly downtown Coffeeville, MS to show the areas where new businesses could build. This is a very nice and quiet neighborhood with friendly people, however the town needs to be revived with entertainment, places to shop, handle financial business or new warehouses to create more jobs.
Shout out to Coffeeville, MS!

In order for towns like this to comeback, the Mayor and City Council have to plan or the people have to push for change. You have to bring in job resources such as Amazon, Car plants, Distrabution Centers. Some type of factories.

The reason why every building is empty is because the businesses weren’t making money! The reason why they weren’t making money is due to the low population of the town and people not frequently visiting and spending money. How much does the average household make a year? That matters!! If the people aren’t making money they can’t spend money! If they can’t spend money that they don’t have then the businesses won’t make it!!

I think that some of those towns are being ignored. Maybe they need more job training and employnent agencies. Why is it that smaller developing countries are doing better than the USA? You want those people to move to the big cities and live in crowded places .

Those buildings have been empty for 10+ years, at some point...someone has to try again. I do believe if the right businesses were placed in town, the community would support them. Example: a grocery store...I recently saw a small town (in illinois) save their only store by coming together. However, I do agree with your response to a certain point. The average household is around $50,000 but people will spend money on things they need.

@Denise-di3jy Overall, this video shows the town as all the videos I've uploaded. I only give population for most of them. An intelligent business owner always does research for themselves before moving forward on a project, so they would look up that particular information. I'm sharing this video from my perspective and opinion. There is power in the internet, if the right people see this video, someone will see it the way I do...potential and an opportunity. You can do alot with a little but you have to start somewhere. It starts by bringing awareness. If business come, it employs people, if only a few.

@@Theeorie4393yea that’s the biggest issue. I’ve always talked to my wife about this. All they need is a wal mart. That creates jobs and people would actually spend more money. Even people that live close by like water valley and Oakland. Even Grenada people would stop buying and spend money in wal mart if they put one there. Even a fast food restaurant would help bring some money into the town. Do that and people that live in other towns close by would also commute from their town to work there. That’s one of the biggest ways to help the town grow.

If Water Valley can attract new residents(a lot due to attracting people from the town of Oxford to move there), it makes me wish that the town of Coffeeville could attract such people to move there as well. Towns like Coffeeville need more than just DG and Dollar Tree to shop at, and like you said it'd be nice if a grocery store and bank could open here. That and rehabbing decaying buildings in downtown Coffeeville, would greatly get the ball rolling in getting population back there. If towns like Water Valley, MS can make a population comeback, and same witb Roanoke, IN, does make me hope places like Coffeeville could come back. Would be especially nice if some new grocer, could take over the Piggly Wiggly space.

A house that was on the right before you passed the football field was tore down. The park lost a few things that was there like the swing set. Only thing I would suggest is when you go to the school.

I agree, it does seem that way but they should take a page from Dollar General because they are small enough to serve a community of any size. That place must look beautiful in the summer with all the land and trees. Unfortunately you can't put new businesses in a town without enough people to support those businesses. You first need to get more families with income to move there, and then you can build up the businesses. But it definitely looks like a Lovely place to live. ❤❤

How many students could you possibly have in a town of less than 1,000 people? And what do the few students do between elementary and high school? A regular walmart would be overkill, but one of those wlamrt neighborhood markets that just sells food would be fine.

I think it is great that you are an idealist person. This town between 2010 and 2020 lost 11.9% of it’s population. It has 797 people and a total of 457 households. It would be almost impossible for a business such as you speak to come to this town . Businesses have to hire people ,pay wages ,and benefits and make a significant profit to stay in business. I’m assuming that the residents travel to a-nearby town that is much larger to work, shop, receive medical services, recreation etc.

I'm not an older person at 50 but I enjoy peace and quiet so I would live here. What is the name of the apartments complex with the on site laundromat? It looks like a quiet town and you can do limited grocery shopping at Dollar Tree and similar stores but they don't have the variety and the meats that a grocery store would have.

This is a cool video, and I appreciate your positive attitude, but the reason why there's no-one here is because there's no-one making money here. If no-one is making money they can't spend it. The rents are too high and if there's no work and rent is too expensive, people leave for where the work is. It's a catch 22, unfortunately. I'd love to build a recording studio here, btw! Both for my own use, and to rent out to other musicians. But again, there just wouldn't be enough regular business to sustain it, which is a real shame.
