What makes him such a scary villain is his complete lack of emotion killing someone. He doesn't show any remorse, even worse he doesn't show joy or happiness doing it. It's like killing someone is just a chore to him, a minor inconvenience. Brilliantly written and acted.

I love how this movie is crafted and it just goes to show how talented the Cohen brothers are. The fact that this movie has practically no musical soundtrack makes it more captivating since you are really drawn in to the dialogue and the little nuances. Like these two opening scenes, especially how horrific the second scene is just goes to show how this won academy award for best motion picture.

The first reaction of people when they are strangled from the back is to break free by moving forward. The key to free yourself in such situation is to fall backwards against the strangler. And if you are already on the floor, try lifting your legs high up in the air, it will add more pressure on the assailant and you'dl be able to roll backwards. If you are driving a car, and get strangled from the back, recline the seat fully, the strangler would be pinned and would have limited space to strangle with force. And secondly if anyone walks towards you with a weapon in hand, even if he is in uniform, RUN!

The book explains how and why Anton was arrested. Some local at a diner insulted him. See below: I paid my bill and I had started to push through the door when he said the same thing again. I turned and looked at him. I was just standing there picking my teeth with a toothpick and I gave him a little gesture with my head. For him to come outside. If he would like to. And then I went out. And I waited in the parking lot. And he and his friends came out and I killed him in the parking lot and then I got into my car. They were all gathered around him. They didnt know what had happened. They didnt know that he was dead. One of them said that I had put a sleeper hold on him and then the others all said that. They were trying to get him to sit up. They were slapping him and trying to get him to sit up. An hour later I was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy outside of Sonora Texas and I let him take me into town in handcuffs. I’m not sure why I did this but I think I wanted to see if I could extricate myself by an act of will. Because I believe that one can. That such a thing is possible. But it was a foolish thing to do. A vain thing to do. Do you understand? - Anton Chigurh

Let's take into effect how this is 1980's West Texas where people most likely had a large amount of respect for law enforcement figures. sure, getting pulled over by a man carrying a metal tank such as Anton would set me into doubt, but not enough time was given to the man to become fully aware of the man, who for all he knows, is a real law enforcement officer. Just my two cents.
