No Country For Old Fudds

Ойындар

Are you a Fudd? This Country for years was plagued by the old man type giving out unsolicited old advice about firearms that was never challenged and accepted as gospel. No we move onto the future, will the Zoomers of today be the Fudds of Old tomorrow? Time shall tell.

Back in the 80s and 90s, when the left was trying and then did ban “assault rifles”, us young guys at the time actually coined the term Fudd to describe the duck and deer hunters (usually older guys) who supported the bans. Because “you don’t need 30 rounds to hunt”. The term being from Elmer Fudd of looney tunes. Fast forward 30 years, I’m in my 50s and considered a “gun nut” by my hunter neighbors in their 20s and 30s because of my ARs, AKs, suppressors and Glocks. The term has lost its meaning without historical context and experience. And young guys today act like they discovered the defense of 2A freedom lol.

I'm a cold war Army Vet, think Iron Sights (2 shots shy of expert). I didn't think about getting a firearm for about 3 decades until the George Floyd Riots in the Twin Cities where I'm at. So I skipped out on the past culture. I didn't know what Fudd meant until I ran across it on a IraqVeteran8888. I call our Governor Walz, Governor Fudd, because he wears plaid jackets and a Stormy Kromer hat and looks like Elmer Fudd, and used to be endorsed by the NRA when he was in Congress until he ran for Governor when he became a total gun control nut. Btw off subject, a while back when you appeared on Garand Thumb with the retro rifles (my era) M16A1 video, I commented on it I should make you both balaclavas. I knit balaclavas. Though by the time I got your tan color I realized by the time I finish making one for Garand Thumb and you the wool will not be comfortable to wear unless you are in an air conditioned room in front of a green screen. I will finish them soon and I just would like to know where to send them. I make them for hunters here and give them to a charity in the Fall & Winter time here in MN (which runs from October to late March). This video made me realize that in the same vein of fudds heralding the 1911 as god's gun, us zoomers sure like to tout the Glock 19 like it's goated with the sauce. Now don't get me wrong, it's a great pistol and they've proven themselves to be great; but with the current gun market there are so many more options that do the same thing as a Glock but better for the same price or cheaper. Polymer framed handguns just aren't special anymore, and 9mm pistols are a dime a dozen to boot.

I don't know what gun does the same thing as a glock. The selling points are the lack of a safety, low bore axis, reliability and aftermarket. The glock is only heralded like the 1911 because the military used it, people born well before zoomers are the proponents of it, especially LE and SF vets. I wouldn't discount a glock compared to any other modern pistol.

At first, the term "Fudd" was used to describe a gun owner who used his guns only for recreation (usually hunting but maybe something like benchrest competition or shooting clays) and was fine with throwing "other" gun owners (those interested in self-defense or preparedness) under the bus. Their rationale was that if the "scary" guns were banned then the statists would be sated and would leave the more traditional hunting/recreational guns alone. Now people use the term "Fudd" to mean "gun owner who is old" or "gun owner that I don't like" and I personally feel uncomfortable with that; the original term described someone who was genuinely insidious and dangerous to our rights/culture while the newer usage of the term is more flippant and lighthearted; to me it just seems like using a really nasty term on people that don't necessarily deserve it. I dunno, maybe I'm being too serious here, just wanted to share my thoughts. This vid was really great and several parts made me laugh so keep up the great work!

I mean I pretty much treat the first definition as what a “Fudd” is; latter is usually just an older hunter or sportsman in my eyes. At least the latter aren’t trying to make me a criminal for enjoying firearms modern enough to not be considered Curio & Relics. That and honestly I was shaking my head the whole time; I doubt any Fudd would be wanting an MP5 unless it was the 10mm model and semi-auto only. They’d be more likely to lug around an M1 Garand or M1A preaching their “.30-caliber stopping powah” and “one shot, one kill” speech.

So rapid fire would ruin Tom's story that he's already told ten times about seeing Dan's wife accidentally drop the burgers in the pool at some barbecue 🙄 From what I understand most of them eventually disappeared as suburban areas expanded, so occasionally it would be noise complaints from other old white people neighbors that made the fudds mad about rapid fire, fearing the loss of the range which they didn't use anyway? 🤔 Seems like a problem which didn't need to exist, but given enough time eventually solved itself...
