Wendy, from what I can tell from some past videos, you have a fantastic collection! I have a large one too because I have been collecting since the 90s and lots of vintage. You do not need to feel pressured to buy and review the latest stuff. Talk about your collection. I watched a young gal talk about all the new releases and it made my head spin there were just too many. I was close to being disgusted with all the stuff being released. Fast fashion is a good way to describe it! I have tried to stop over buying and making myself buy a sample first but even that gets overwhelming because then I have all these small vials, many that don't work for me and it also seems a waste of money. Today I received my order of the new version of my all time favorite perfume, of which I have plenty of vintage; Mitsouko EDP. I had to try the new formula and with one spray I was swooning, transported and I thought, why the hell am I buying all these mediocre perfumes when I have so many gorgeous ones already that most of the new perfumes I try can't even come close? I try not to stress myself over it too much but yes, it's hard sometimes. xoJulia

You've been collecting since the 90s? I can only imagine what gorgeous treasures you have. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten into perfume earlier but I had a house fire in 2007, so everything would have been gone anyway. I'm glad you like to hear about older stuff as I can't keep up with the new stuff, nor do I want to. And to be frank I do have a fantastic collection, more than enough to keep me occupied. Mitsouko is so lovely that I'm like transported when I wear it. It really is one of those scents that make you look at a lot of other stuff and ask WHY?

@@wendisparadeofperfumes5034 Yep, I'm 63 and technically have some from my life in the 80s! I kept nearly every bottle I had. I did throw out Coriandre in a moment of thinking I would never wear it as it was so strong. Wrong! The newer version isn't near the potency as I remember that one to have been. By the way, I wore the new version of Mitsouko EDP in the awful generic labeled bottle and I am happy to report it is pretty close to the original which surprises me, as I know the oakmoss has been deleted quite a bit for a synthetic. I lasted 6 hours so I am happy about that one.

Great to see your no buy is holding steady. My yearning is not to try the new fragrance offerings but more to explore what has been masterfully crafted even if its not popular. My love and appreciation for fragrance is tied in to my love of baking and pairing flavors. So I am not overly excited by new releases. I am also tired of hearing influencers complain about perfumes not being ground breaking , once in awhile a perfumer develops a unique scent profile however the simple compositions or vintage one are to enjoyed as well. Everyone is s critic now. I dont watch many of those videos they are tiresome. Samsara I lived the OG. I wore it when I was 18. Looking back I wore a lot of mature scents but its what my nose chose

Hey Wendi - I've been a subscriber for a long time now - but haven't commented in a while. I appreciate your honesty always and your general pullback on this perfume thing. It's an expensive addiction / hobby and for us regular folks (not rich people) and, yes, it is a constant source of rethink and pullback. As for Samsara and Bois des Iles - I love both - both my top all time faves - but I don't consider them in any way alike. It was interesting, your take...

Ack, how did I miss this video. That’s what I get for traveling to the tropics… Yes, agreed on not getting rid of a ton of bottles. Too many reformulations haunt us….rubber and roses? I think I’ll let you luxuriate in that one. But very fair point about natural but associations with the industrial world….i swear Annick goutal has a million and one different bottles. The ones you mentioned I had never heard of….congrats on your peace status.

I’m probably deluding myself but I think I’m slowly making headway towards peace. The last couple of days/weeks I’ve had hankerings but walked away happily after I realized what nonsense (craving a Ylang Ylang scent? I think not!). There’s no total victory though because I did buy some attars. Have a nice weekend.

Hey, Wendi! It’s always great to hear from you. I was also on a no buy but recently broke down and bought a large bottle of Guerlain Neroli Vetiver Forte. Got a really good deal on a tester bottle from eBay. It should arrive any day now! I collect tarot cards and broke my no buy to get a beautiful dog themed deck (and a beautiful bag to keep them in).

@@wendisparadeofperfumes5034 I have nearly a hundred card decks (mostly tarot, also oracle and lenormand decks). Dogs are my favorite species and I now own two dog themed decks. This new one depicts all the different breeds of dogs as angels and one card has an angel dog riding a unicorn. 🤣 The tarot community is not so different than the perfume community, with debates about mass market vs. independently produced decks, decluttering, etc.

Thank you SO much Wendi for taking the time to make this thorough analysis between Samsara and Bois des Iles! 💗 You mentioned a lot of points I hadn’t come across yet. I enjoy the soapy/waxy aldehydic ways of BdI, which I think is enhanced by the use of the oily ylang ylang and the dry powdery sandalwood. It sounds like the edp version of samsara is likely my better choice in following this type of feeling since you mentioned it has a stronger ylang and beefier florals in general. I’m not really after sweetness either, which the edt sounds like it is more so. Again thanks a lot! Appreciate it :)

You are so welcome I hope it was helpful. Samsara in EDP is more floral if that is what you are looking for. If you sample it let me know what you think! And Lost in the City is pretty. Nothing groundbreaking but it works and it smells natural and lovely, the way a fruity floral should.

You’re doing amazing! I confess, I have not been so good 😂. Then again, my collect is a fraction the size of yours and the addiction is fairly new. Though, I have found your no-buy journey inspiring, at least in the sense that I’m only buying second hand perfumes I truly want instead of any ole thing to give me a fix. Means I have to wait longer until something becomes available. I’m at the point where I’m feeling overwhelmed and that’s also stopping me from making quick impulse purchases. I’m beginning to forget about old favourites, and I’m getting annoyed with myself for that 😂. BTW - love seeing your bottles and hearing your thoughts on them. Annick Goutal is a forever favourite brand of mine.

Don't give into the fix! I know that feeling. Getting a bottle because of the uncontrollable want. Also the feeling of being overwhelmed, while ignoring gorgeous scents on your shelf ... Then I started looking up more fragrances again 😂. I really don’t need another bottle at all. Yes, please, please do a video on your Annick Goutal collection. For years I only had three or four Goutal perfumes and that was all I wore until my perfume obsession hit full force in the last few years.

Nice to hear your comparison of bois des iles and samsara. I have both. Samsara, I have it in the edt, is new in my collection and is growing on me. I adore bdi but wear it only occasionally. Another one with a bit of sandalwood that i like is Trayee by Neela Vermeire. Wishing you good luck on your no buy.

Update: I just received my Guerlain Neroli Vetiver Forte and it is glorious! I knew I would love it because I love neroli and I love green scents. Who knew they would go so well together? Thanks for the recommendation! 💚

Hi Wendy, I was so jazzed to see your video pop up. Sounds like you are doing a great job sticking to your no buy. I feel like I have a better handle on my spending since I slowed down last year. I bought a bottle of Green Tea and was very disappointed. It used to be so so pretty. I wonder why they don’t leave them alone? The new formulation is pretty awful. I’m starting to dig into my spring perfumes. I really love iris and rose scents in the springtime. I’ve been wearing Splendiris, Luxury, Jolie Madame, M + Iris, Iris Prima, Lipstick Rose and Drole de Rose among others. I love vintage Samsara and wore it back in the day. I also love Bois des Iles. Both are gorgeous. I am always interested to hear what you’ve been wearing! Thanks for the video!

Just got around to watching this episode. Congrats on the successful no-buy so far. I'd picked up a Miller Harris recently (feuilles de tabac) and Equipage Geranium earlier this year, and found it interesting to see it in this video :) I'm not on a no-buy as such, but hoped to buy fewer bottles this year, but haven't been too successful with that. I loved that you're able to revisit your older bottles and find magic in them - esp the ex Idolo one. Cheers!!

Oh how are you enjoying the Feuilles de Tabac? I think I have that one buried somewhere:) And the Equipage Geranium is so smooth an sublime. The sandalwood drydown is gorgeous. The older bottle method is really working so far, but believe me I have my moments!

@@wendisparadeofperfumes5034 I'm loving the Feuilles de Tabac! It's been a bit rainy here where I live, in India, so a bit cooler, and that's a good time to wear this one. It has a bit of a vintage masculine opening with pine needles and some herbs and spices followed by slightly honeyed tobacco and then some patchouli in the base. With all those notes, one would feel like it should have 8 hour plus performance, but I get 5-6 hours with moderate projection (which is good enough for me). Equipage Geranium is amazing, it's so smooth and smells great in the air. Ah, and nice stuff sticking with your older bottles. I try to self-impose a no-buy once in a while, but then when something else in missing in my life, I look out for what new perfumes are out there to get 😳😳There was a 20% off coupon for first time buyers in a retail site here in India, and I picked up a bunch of Serge 🥺😬

I promise I'll do another rose list, rose is just my favorite it's almost too overwhelming to narrow it down... plus my list is gone damn my disorganization. So many of the Chanel LE's are gorgeous, but I love Cristalle for spring ... I have not tried the reissued Cristalle, have you?
