I can tell you exactly what happened to the semi trailer. Brakes caught on fire. It looks like it damaged the axles as well as those are too wide for the trailer. The wrecker was there as an escort and to keep an eye on the back of the trailer. Either he was empty or pretty empty when it happened or they did a great job of limiting the fire to the rear. With the frame buckled, I'd say it was probably the first thing.

I'm guessing the question is about the rail machine which is creating the sparks? Geometry, is what it means. Railroad car and locomotive wheels have a tread part which rides on the railhead and a flange around the wheel which goes inside the railhead. All 3 components, the wheel tread, the wheel flange, and the transition between wheel tread and wheel flange are shaped to specific geometry. So is the top of the rail, the railhead. The least friction is generated when all those shapes, geometries, are correct. Machines like the one in that clip periodically grind worn railheads back to the proper geometry. Wheels can be either reshaped or junked and replaced. Eventually the rail will wear enough to need to be replaced.
