The Dodgers nightmare in the early 2010s was actually the St Louis Cardinals. Man did those Cardinals own the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw in particular

The best game I’ve ever been to just mad I had to use the bathroom when Morse hit his home run. Being in center field watching the Travis home run pass was just so exciting!!! Nothing like dog piling with a bunch of giants fans!

Yea. Travis struggled for a long time and had to learn to play LF that year and it was his 2nd stint with SF to stay on the team. Kid absolutely deserved his moment

Ish’s bomb was epic but I loved Morse homer more. You had, at the time one of the top set up guys in the league on the mound and wasn’t looking good but Morse’s shot gave us an adrenaline shot. At that point I felt the pennant was all but locked up

Thanks. FlyingHellFish99, that is an amazing game. I've seen highlights and have heard interviews from Morris and Ishakawa, but never watched the whole game. An amazing game for a long-time Giants fan. My condolences to you Card fan's, though I cheered for the Cards once in awhile when Lou Brock and Bob Gibson were playing.

This series was eerily similar to the 2002 NLCS between these two - that was also a 4-1 Giants win despite all the games being close, and the Giants also won that series on a walkoff in G5.

I watched 8 innings of this, then I had to interrupt. "Damn...", I thought, "...they're 3-3 and the 9th inning has to start. This is what I call a cliffhanger." I was not disappointed AT ALL by that final home run. Priceless.

@@devilrobrob him and his girlfriend died in a car wreck in the Dominican Republic a couple weeks after this game . I’m from Missouri so I grew up and still am a cards fan we were all excited to see what Oscar taveras would turn into sadly we never got that chance .

That was the last ab for the Cards as well. Also, you can basically eliminate everyone else on the field, other than the pitcher, and you have left Oscar doing it all on defense in the bottom of the 9th. Don’t be sad, it was a tribute.

Baseball newbie here. Can anyone tell me why at 18:01, Grichuk decided to run? I mean, he didn't strike the ball, right? I'm trying to learn baseball by watching these matches. Some help would be appreciated.

It was a drop third strike. In baseball if you swing at strike 3 and the catcher drops it you get the chance to try and run to first. 9 times out of 10 your out but sometimes the ball gets behind the catcher and if you beat the throw to first you get to stay there.

The poor Cardinals ran into the "Just enough to win" Giants. The Cardinals were the better full-season team but the Giants were better at winning a single series. Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, and MadBum were the responsible pitchers for the 3 WS titles. Now, we know that they are no longer with the Giants. Timmy and Matt just lost their pitching skills. MadBum is now gone, it is officially the end of the Giants era.

@@quiara25 Agree! This is because of Timmy, Matt, and MadBum. In baseball, we can agree that it is a team sport. However, if we can pick one position that can influence the outcome of the game, it got to be a pitcher. It is not easy to have a pitcher that can perform well enough to get the team into the playoff and then lights out in a do/die game. The Giants had three of them. On the contrary, future HOF Justin and Clayton are obviously very good pitchers. But Justin absolutely can't win in the WSs and Clayton is a less than average pitcher in October. When compared to Clayton and Justin, we can put into perspective how impressive Timmy, Matt, and MadBum were from 2010 - 2014.

Wainwright was better. He was better in game 1 as well when Bumgarner balked.

Not in game one. Wainwright gave up 9 baserunners in 42/3 innings. Bumgarner gave up no runs in 7.67 and struck out 7. Bumgarner won the MVP. Didn't matter if Wainwright pitched slightly better in game 5 Madison toughed out the win. Bumgarner had a 1,72 era and wainwright posted a 3.08. Good but not good enough.

Bumgarner was only behind in this game because of a misplay in LF by Ishi that cost a run....and in Game 1 Bumgarner dominated the Cards, he was easily the better pitcher that game....you sound like a bitter Cards fan after 2012 & 2014...no doubt 2002 isn't one of your favorites either.

It was a great battle for sure, and Wainwright did do slightly better on this day (lets ignore the fact that Ishikawa's misplay in left field cost Bum a bit). However in the end it didn't matter. Bum kept us in the game all the way into the 8th and that's all we needed. One swing from Morse and suddenly the little bit that Wainwright did better than Bum on this night was erased.
