NLBN vs DOA: Paddletail Lure Comparison - What Gets More Bites?

Ойын-сауық

For the last few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with two paddletail lures: NLBN vs DOA.
The No Live Bait Needed (NLBN) and the DOA C.A.L. Shad Tail to be specific.
The NLBN is the new kid on the block that has quite a social media presence and following, and the DOA has been a staple in inshore fishing for decades.
What paddletail lure gets more bites???

    @@jakobteehart If i'm using a traditional jig head with the zman, I like to put a small drop of super glue on the jig head to lock it on. Works great for me and as long as the tail doesn't get bitten off, can go a whole day with just the one bait quite often.

    Use the NLBN mini mullet for weedless with a 2/0 bkk titan diver or titan rider hook. Diver is weighted rider is non weighted. I've caught more snook in the past year on the mini mullet than any other artificial. Fresh mullet color has been the most successful for me on the south west coast.

    Very informative. I am a VIP WITH SALT STRONG and I do use nlbn. As the new kid on the block, I think they do a pretty decent job catching. A couple things that did not get mentioned is that they have a base of colors that are available at some tackle stores( so no shipping costs) the other thing is that they do offer a variety of new colors (on top of the many profiles) that come out every 2 weeks that they offer to those who sign up. Anyway, Thank you Pat, as always you have provided us with food for thought!

    Thanks for the info David! I wish I didn’t have to pay for shipping but there’s no real tackle stores near me, just box stores and they don’t carry the NLBN. I’ve seen some of the Limited Colors and they do look interesting but as they say, most lures are designed to catch fishermen. The base colors they have as standard I feel is a good representation of colors that I personally would use. I am looking forward to trying the Mini Mullets, I feel that is something unique and has a solution no one else offers. Appreciate you watching!

    I like the NLBN product. The lure might get bit in half by pesky little puffer this or puffer that, BUT a) that's part of the price we pay when fishing (NOT catching) and b) due to its screw on lock in place method, the NLBN lure is not getting pulled off the NLBN jig head or dislodged from it.

  • @shallowwaterguy4755

    @shallowwaterguy4755

    That screw lock does hold well but they need a weedless rigging option for the paddle tails.

    Setting up tandem DOAs with two different colors, typically with one being white the other a darker color works freakin great for me. Plus the fact that I can use either a weedless or traditional jig head is awesome. And, like it was said you can't beat the price on those DOAs. A little stink of your choice also enhances your catch probability.

    The only advantage NLBN has currently is that most people don’t realize how easy it is to pour your own baits. You can get a couple of nice molds (or even make your own) and a couple versions of plastisol for different bait hardness, and then you can produce an endless amount of colors to your own preference and in the end, it’s cheaper than going back and paying the NLBN marketing premium over and over. And for what it’s worth, I live on the IRL and unless you’re skipping mangroves, I find the NLBN paddletail to be the least effective paddletail.

  • @teb3888

    I’m sorry but I love catching fish and if that means paying a little more to do so than so be it. The way I see it. If I’m skippin into mangroves I need that tail moving while it’s falling around structure and NLBN does that. Point is, you get what you pay for.
