NJ Transit's Iconic ALP-44M 4424 on Display at URHS NJ Railroad Museum For A Day 2023

Yesterday Sep 24, 2023, I went to United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey's "Railroad Museum For A Day" event in Boonton, NJ, mainly to view their RECENTLY acquired ALP-44M No. 4424 locomotive from New Jersey Transit. Believe it or not, despite being a railfan for most of my life, this was my first time INSIDE of a locomotive.
I show the exterior and interior views of the ALP-44 🚉:
0:00 - Exterior View (Both Ends & Undercarriage)
2:47 - Interior View (Both Cabs, Engine Room & Toilet)
Although the weather wasn't ideal with the rain, wind & chilly weather. The staff was hospitable and the nostalgia was impeccable. Hats off to URHS NJ. The 2023 Boonton Yard Open House was a SUCCESS! Enjoy!
Sidenote, it would be nice if NJ Transit ran weekend service on the Boonton Line..

For sure. Most of these are beyond repair, so it's nice to see URHS NJ brought this one back to life & preserved it.

NJT #4424 is now living a good life with URHS. Before the donation to URHS, she was in indefinite storage awaiting an uncertain fate until NJT was feeling generous and decided to donate her. Who knows? Maybe she could be used in excursion service for the URHS of New Jersey

Very good video! I can hear myself in a fair bit of it. I was in the B cab, while my buddy Austin was in the F cab. We were excited to show off the memorabilia, training video, inside of the locomotive, and of course the operation of it! Thanks for stopping by, we really enjoyed all the fans who came through to check it out. We are super excited for when you guys get to see it in operation as a cab car.

Thanks for the compliment. It was great to explore the cabs, engine room and listen to all of you speak on the history & workings of the locomotive. Also, I'll keep an eye out for its use as a cab car. It'll bring back memories of ACES.

Glad you enjoyed 4424. I was the volunteer at the F end in your video. For the past 2 months I’ve been working periodically cleaning it and helping with getting it ready for the open house. It was great to see everyone enjoying the locomotive.

You & your team did a great job cleaning & preparing the locomotive for the open house. I could only *imagine* what it looked like after being stored for about a decade before NJT donated it to you.

Septa got one of those as the "Booby Prize" from Adtranz for not completing the Rte 100 Norristown (former P&W) High Speed Line on time because of so many engineering mistakes. I was the official babysitter of our problem child ALP 44 Septa 2308. I worked with WABCO to straighten out the problematic processor controlled braking systems and other things that were put in at the last minute before delivery and never vetted or tested. Transit got rid of them quickly because they experienced many of the same mis-engineered problems that were built into them. There's a stack of them, up at the Lackawanna Cutoff waiting for the scrapper. The AEM 7 was a way better machine than the ALP 44.

Any chance youd be willing to shoot me an email? I am the URHS's "ALP-44 technical expert" among other related things. I would absolutely be thrilled to have a conversation or two about 2308!
