South Amboy. One of the great railroad theaters of all time. Spent many a day there in the 70's & 80's. Thanks for posting.

Excellent! So cool to see E60s running in NJ Transit and Amtrak schemes. Interesting that the unique sounding Nathan P01235 horn on 960 (which was custom designed for Amtrak) was replaced with a Nathan P5. I wish that these giants were still in service. Thankfully there are two left. Hopefully they'll be fully restored.

+Tony & Tony V. Yes, New Jersey Transit unit #958 is at the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey. I think she's still in her NJT colors. The society is right next to Interstate 287. There is also a restored Pennsy GG1 on the grounds. Check it out on Google. :-)

What I find more interesting is how it seems from the sound that on one end it’s a Nathan P5, and on the other end it’s a Nathan P01235

I've always like the boxy, sleek profile of those big E60s. Sort of reminds me of the late 1960s hot rods.

One question did the engineer on the E60 then operate the diesel engine to Bay Head or does another engineer operate it to Bay Head? The same question on trains from Bay Head to New York?

Unless I'm mistaking, the final exchange of motive power at south amboy, was when an e60 electric engine handed over an arriving commuter train from Pennsylvania station in New York City to an f40ph diesel, for the run to bayhead New Jersey.

+TheNw1218 That'd be my guess. The GG1's were gone in 1983 and I don't know if the ALP-44's were used on this line much then.

+Tony & Tony V. After the last exchange of motive power in 1987, the rest of the line towards bay head got electrified. And the alp-44 locomotives were introduced in I think it's the early 1990s to replace the aging ge u34ch locomotives on like the Bergen county line and raritan valley train lines and so on.

You know...the E60s are a bit like the ALP44s from the 1990s-early 2000s.
