Nivill Extended Honeycomb Bed | Finally an option for Extended Diode Lasers

If you've extended your Sculpfun, Xtool, or similar diode laser, you've run into the issue of what you do for a Honeycomb bed. Nivill has come out with an option that is perfect for the diode lasers with extended rails! I received one, and I looked at its construction, features, and how a few lasers might fit on or around this honeycomb bed.

I checked out the Nivill website and it looks like they make a bunch of different sizes which is important since the diode lasers kept getting more powerful. Good info.

They do have a number of different sizes and it’s great to see that.

One thing to be aware of, the Stainless Steel Honeycomb material is typically on 0.007 to 0.008 inches thick, this is pretty close to the maximum thickness of steel that the latest 20W LED lasers are capable of cutting at max power so potentially could damage the bed. The Aluminium Honeycomb beds are a similar thickness but the higher thermal conductivity of Aluminium means that the LED lasers don't have enough power to cut it so theres a far lower posibility of laser damage

I would be very surprised to get damage to the steel bed from any diode laser unless you let it sit in one spot for a very long time. I’ve been abusing the honeycomb bed in my Co2 laser for over 7 years and the worst it has is staining from a lot of cutting. The aluminum beds are very easy to dent and bend the fins on and they won’t hold magnets, so you’re much more likely to damage those from just placing material or having to use pins in the weave to hold your material in place.

Nice! Looking forward to the video of your laser expansion. I just expanded my Comgo Z1 I'm having trouble getting it to work with lighburn. It won't recognize the expanded area. It's fine in the original work space. I've updated the machine and device settings.. Is there some g-code setting I have to change?

You might want to double check the GRBL settings for $130 and $131 to make sure they match the new working area size. Those settings can effect the soft limits of the laser.

@@Vintauri yes, that was it. As soon as I entered $131=800 it worked. Thanks!

How does this size work on your Ortur LM3?

With the stock feet you may need to block up the laser as they get too close to the edges. I'm not sure how well it would fit with the extended rails but again, if you sit the laser on separate blocks it should work well.

Disappointed with this brand. Spent the money and received a completely out of square bed, not damaged in transit but made and sold that way. I expected more for the price.

    $200?! Seriously?!

The price has fluctuated a bit, and there are other options for a honeycomb bed. Cloudray will make a custom size for you as well as having a few stock options that are larger. Unfortunately, when you add the shipping costs they are still more expensive than this through Amazon.
