Thank You so much for these memories brought back to life ! I'm in my 60's now and the first time my Dad took me to the Drag Strip I was only 5 (RIP) and I've been hooked since. I saw quite a few of the cars you captured when they were new. Never owned a car worthy of the 1/4 , but I've been a model car builder and have a healthy list of cars from the day , quite a few from your video. Great video. Hopefully I can find my way out west to one of these nostalgic Drags before I gotta go.

Yup, as you know, the Front Engine Dragster was also called a Rail, Digger, Slingshot Dragster, now only run in nostalgia drag racing. ♥ After many injuries from engine and transmission explosions, it was later determined that having the engine in the rear was much safer. Don Garlits perfected the rear-engine Top Fuel Dragster after losing part of his foot in a Slingshot Dragster incident. Awesome video! (CHEERS)

I really enjoyed your video. FYI, the "Ol' Whinemaker" 1966 Dodge @ 24:33 was not a wheelie car, but was built as an early funny car/match racer along the same lines as Tom McEwen's 1965 Plymouth Barracuda. Both cars were less than a success as were most "mid" engine funny cars of that era. Jim Dunn's 1972 'Cuda was about the most successful of the type. Please keep up the good work for those of us who cannot always get to all of these shows. THANKS!! 🙂

This video sounds exactly like Lions at night in '67 when I was small, the nights of myriad, mean, blown gassers with tinted windows, including Stude pick-ups and panel trucks, push start AA/FDs, and the earliest flip-top SoCal (and Nationwide) FCs. Ask any old timer who's been to Lions after dark in the 60s is this the identical sound.

One of the most enjoyable Drag Race videos ever. The ‘down to earth’ camera work makes you feel like you’re actually there. This event brings back feelings and memories of when Drag Racing was truly fun apart from ‘multi-million dollar’ Race Teams that for most are unrelatable. Gnarly Speed Shop is a breath of fresh air for this sport that truly revive the joy of cars and Drag Racing. And.. not to be unsung is the pleasure and joy of watching the enthusiasm, knowledge and beauty of a new emerging Drag Racing Queen, Olivia. Olivia, the Drag Racing community loves you and what you bring to this sport. On my ‘Bucket List’ is a picture with you at a major event..,.,

I politely disagree on the 2 doors Chevy Nova being a sleeper. Sleepers are not 2 doors. They have to be 4 doors sedans, station wagons, SUV's, or for the best of the best, a minivan... Being 2 doors the car looks like a sport cars, car people will know that larger engines were available (for the Nova, the 307, 350, 396), but the surprise will be total with the other bodies I mentioned. Being a Pontiac afficionado Oliva, imagine making a sleeper out of an Aztek, the ugliness on the outside and inside, but the performance of a big V8 swap... After the Charger, you should do a sleeper, because you only have 2 doors cars in your fleet. Great video 👍!

Regarding the briefly seen K S Pittman car, there was another Pittman brother, Paul Pittman who owned the green, turbocharged "Sassy Gremlin." A very unique (turbo) car in its day. His daughter married my best friend from high school. Never knew there was SO MANY Gassers around. Back in the early 70's Irwindale had huge AA/FA (Altereds) events. Scary cars to be going that fast on the old 1/4 mile track (which sadly is LONG gone). 😞

And see this, as a wow, i want this sort of living. What is USA today? I am from the Netherlands, as young dreamt about it, but........... 45 years later, skills at metal worker, any chances at old days? Or just save up as retirement?
