This is probably my favorite class, I did clutch on a/fuel for my first job in drag racing.. there's something really special getting these high-compression Nitro Motors to run well! In regards to this class in general, you have guys like Randy Meyer who will pretty much help anyone, and wants the class to grow and to minimize rule changes (aka try to have everyone running close to the same, not trying to run a 4.99 and have a bunch of rule changes because of it... these cars could have been in the high for second range years ago) so more people can get involved without spending a fortune trying to figure out how to get the car to run when they keep knocking down the nitro percentage and so on and so forth.. but yeah, injected nitro, especially back when I did it, that was a blast because it was my first gig AND was w/ the 100% nitro rules and we actually made it to the semifinals at the national event in Ennis and had top speed of the race, that was a highlight until I worked in Top Fuel, mainly fuel funny car and won FOUR races in a row with them!! Now THAT was incredible and is definitely a special memory! God I miss doing this all the time so so so much.. whether it be Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, etc. So, I have a blast going and helping with Sprint cars but to me, nothing beats working on is this stuff, especially when you're around good people! Division 4 was always a blast :-) Anyway, thanks for an awesome video!!

Good to hear from someone that's been in the sport. I used to help with a couple of Top Dragsters and I've built a bunch of bracket cars for various racers over the years. This sport is addicting. I love it when I get to the track and get that first spell of race gas and alcohol! I encourage anybody to get involved in some form. You won't regret it. 👍

Brooks Brown gave the NHRA Alky guys fits for years,,because he did so well with a Nitro Injected car against the blown Alky cars,. This was back in the late 80's and 90's. Nitro Injected has been allowed to run against blown Alky for quite some time. Kinda like Rick Santos and his blown alky SBC dragster making the big blown hemi alky guys look foolish,,with his weight break,,until someone whined and sniveled.

Notice it takes longer though before they turn on the nitro pumps. These need more heat before they will burn the nitro. That’s why they need that whole black cylinder full of fuel to start where the AA cars just need some squirts into the blower.

Basically but read up on how nitromethane works as an internal combustion fuel. It carries it's own oxygen which greatly helps to ignite the fuel. More oxygen allows for more fuel which equals greater horsepower.

@@racer774 Yes, because nitro (90% nitro 10% meth'l) carries so much of it's own oxygen it can ignite at an AFR of 1.1 to 1 naturally aspirated and gasoline is at 12.5 to 1 AFR naturally aspirated, with a blower nitro is at 0.9 to 1 and a blown gasser is at 11.5 to 1. Of course some will be tweaked but these general stats really drive home the characteristics of nitro.

@@benjamins9121 The OP simply asked if it was "basically N/A". He didn't ask about AFR, AFR w/ boost, etc. Some non-technical folks prefer basic info so that's why I limited my reply and included a suggestive read on nitomethane as a combustible fuel if he wanted anything further. Good day to you.! PS. Depending on weather and track conditions, when it is/was rule legal, some racers use 97-98% nitro. 90/10 is fairly common, however.

An unblown nitromethane engine is able to compete in the "Top Alcohol" classes which still have a substantial share of blown alcohol engine combos. For a good example of an A/Fuel Dragster in competition with an onboard camera, search KZread for Randy Meyer Racing. His daughters are winning racers that can turn wrenches if needed.
