NITRO and gasoline fuel: Saito FG21 crazy test

Ғылым және технология

Hello, my dear viewers and subscribers !
Working with NITROmethane is very interesting, although the results are full of surprises. Sometimes you don't get what you expect
but it is also very, very interesting. It is important for me to understand the background, the physics of the processes occurring in the engine. So today's test was born somehow "on the go", and at first it seemed to me that it was very simple to conduct it. But it wasn’t there ... I couldn’t even just achieve stable engine operation. I had to disassemble the intricate and complex Seito carburetor, and rinse it thoroughly. But that didn't help either. On spark ignition, the engine just simply "clapped" loudly, and that's it. The reason turned out to be very unusual, the engine was able to crank and shear the propeller washer fixing pin, thus, the whole ignition angles were shifted, and the engine could not work at all. But now, when I managed to cope with it, let's see what amazing results I managed to get.
Thanks for watching, have a nice day !

    Predictable results....The spark ignition will always give the best results due to the precise timing of a spark ignition system....The Nitro provides oxegen and just helps the gasoline burn faster. Nitromethane and four strokes = Rusty bearings....from Nitic Acid residue.....🤔🙄😳🇬🇧

    Thanks for the comment, I'm glad that CrazyEngines channel was helpful a bit ! I think the 100T can really run great on petrol, all you need is the right carburetor, and the RCEXL twin ignition is quite affordable. The sticking point for me was the magnet flange for the 100T, and the 100T had a nasty habit of quitting off one cylinder (usually the left, pilot's side) on the glow ignition. Perhaps a petrol modification will cure it from this behavior ? I wish you success in this modification, it will be very interesting. Thank you and have a nice day !

    This was a very interesting test session. Quite astonished to learn that glow plugs will stay energized with a 20:1 gasoline mixture. I was always under the impression that the platinum element had a catalytic reaction only with methanol. I wonder, did you secretly also try some standard non-4 stroke glow plugs? What is the performance number, R&M, or octane rating of your "regular" gasoline over there? And lastly, you need to make a proper throttle linkage for your test stand. You are, after all, an engineer! 😆

  • @crazyengines88

    Thank you very much for your comment ! 95 octane regular (unleaded) gasoline was used. I borrow a quart from the fuel tank of my generator. Due to the very big amount of problems, which Saito FG21 was created today, it was non real to test something else. But...it's very nice idea to test 2 stroke glow plugs on regular gasoline fuel ! Engine is still mounted on the bench stand, so, stay tuned ! You can't even imagine, that every kind of investigation / research / test / experiment just open the doors of unknown. The more we're truing to know, the more we're understanding, that we don't know a lot (or even at all). There is never being an exact answers...new questions are coming. @@crazyengines88 As you know, higher octane fuel reduces the speed of the flame front travelling from the point of ignition across the top of the piston, to prevent detonation. If your engine has adjustable timing, then it could be advanced a little when using a high octane fuel. This theoretically could produce more power. The limitation would be either reaching detonation, or running out of timing advance. If there is no adjustability of your engines timing, then using high octane fuel has limitations to its cost/benefit ratio.

  • @crazyengines88

    @@xKmotx Thank you for your comment ! Yes, agree with you. I can adjust only the ignition moment in some limits, I think, approx, +/- 12% from the T.D.C. , in this Saito FG21, (this is according to my eyes, not measured). Also, of course, it's possible to shift a bit main valve timing gear but this will shift all 4 phases of the engine cycle, as well. I have to think more about this topic - will it sufficiently affect on the engines performance ? The better way of increasing the engine's power output, could be a kind of a supercharger. Better I'll focused on fuel mixes and glow plug's potential and behavior.

  • @crazyengines88

    @crazyengines88

    Practically, not. I discovered, by accident, that the engine, perhaps during a bad start with a heavy prop, or / and backfire, was able to cut off the locking pin that holds the propeller flange, and, accordingly, is also responsible for the ignition moment. I had to repair this and all settings were restored to "0", so now the engine has factory settings.

    hi Crazyengine I'm having problems with my Saito fg21, I use apc 15/8, Saito spark plug, the engine has 5 liters of petrol, the maximum rpm it takes is 8000 rpm, and the minimum is difficult to regulate, if I lose weight for having 1600/1700 rpm as soon as I accelerate it dies, to keep it from dying I have to grease the idle a lot, I have to open it even more than what is open at the factory, and so it doesn't puncture, but it is very fat at idle and you can't get low rpm and regular, do you know what it could be? A thousand thanks

There could be a real bunch of potential issues. Only one is clear enough - probably, the reason of such behavior is in carburetor settings (if you're not don't dismantled your engine earlier). So, will wait for your videos. Thank you and have a nice day !

    How are you getting nitromethane to mix with gasoline? As far as I knew they don't mix. Do they mix but separate over time?

  • @crazyengines88

    @crazyengines88

    10 ай бұрын

    Super, great question ! Really appreciate for that. I should say, that information regarding mixing ability of nitromethane with gasoline was extremely confusing, but in fact, up to 30% nitromethane can be added to gasoline fuel. 20% additive does not change the appearance of the mixture at all. More - the mixture begins to become cloudy, and about 30% is the maximum that can be added without the fuel mixture separating. But 30% is very cool. I want to try adding nitromethane to the fuel for my ATV, and see what benefits it can give, and what damage it can do. The main thing is not to add nitromethane to engines with an EFI system, because the lambda probe is guaranteed to blow the minds of the ECU. The cost of repairs may be higher than the potential interest in the topic. Anyhow, I´m really very nice pleased by your question - that means, that I'm doing my job more or less well, thank you !

    Boa tarde ! Neste vídeo, a partir das 7m:20s, todas as lanchas já estão funcionando a combustível com +10% de Nitrometano, a primeira, como de costume, com ignição por centelha, as demais - em glow. Talvez, se este vídeo despertou tanto interesse, nos próximos lançamentos tentarei aumentar a participação do Nitro para 20% na gasolina, embora nos testes anteriores, após + 15% do Nitro, os motores não funcionassem melhor e as rotações até ficou um pouco mais baixo e o movimento ocioso tornou-se menos estável. Acho que neste caso, a mistura de combustível com alto teor de Nitro, (quase um terço), começou a resfriar mais a bobina incandescente, impedindo-a de manter pontos de fulgor.

    Thank you very much for your question. I think, that attempt to mix nitro (methanol based) fuel with gas will not work, for a few reasons: 1. Glow fuel (methanol based) will not dissolve adequately with the gas addition, this mix becomes a kind of cloudy solution, which later will be will delaminate into 2 layers. 2. Gas fuel and glow fuel have different fuel/air ratios, and each fuel uses a dedicated carburetor that is not compatible with other fuels. I still have some ideas to continue to work with Saito FG and FA engines with diff fuel mixes, so definitely, in a week or two you can find an confirmed answer at CrazyEngines channel.
