Shantanu gave much more value to his beloved satyavati than his hastinapur and bhisma loved his father more than hastinapur...he didn't think even for a moment while taking 'akhand pratigya'...and the rest is history. So a king or a ruler shouldn't give more importance to his dear ones than his kingdom. But now a days relatives come first and the kingdom at the end.
