Hi
Common problem on these...
The rear suspension arms get that rusty, that weakens their strength, and become dangerous!
The ones on this car, were bad...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

At least it didn't break in half like the notorious D40 Nissan Navarra! Even Eric O from SMA would cringe at those rusted out suspension arms. You have saved the owner from a serious accident there Luis.

😊 Yes, I heard about the Navarra! Quite scary really... Thank you for watching and for your comment! 👍👍👍
I did this recently on my Nissan Qashqai +2, 4WD. The front bolts on both sides were so rusty that they could not be loosened. But I solved this by unscrewing the 4 bolts in the bracket that holds the arm to the chassis. Then after I had to cut the curved part of the arm, near the bracket, by means of an angle grinder. After that I managed to cut the rusted bolt on either side. The size of the metal cutting disc had to be at least of Ø 23 cm in order to do this.

Great video? It was pointless in the extreme and did not show how to remove the suspension arm or replace it. All we got shown was how to remove a wheel and im sure we all know how to do that already.

I don't have time to engage with people that take everything for granted... You come here looking for free information at the expensive of others that take the time and put effort to share information... And you think you are entitled to it just because? I might have not shown all the details, but showed enough for any person with some skills to be able to do the same... If what you are looking for is not here, go elsewhere... This is my last comment on this matter... Have a nice day...
I spend an hour each year under my cars coating everything like that with copper slip grease. That way it never gets past the surface rust stage. Any non setting rust preventive applied on a regular basis will do. Job well done, I agree it all had to be renewed.
@LMAutoRepairs

That's a good way of keeping them rust free... Not something very common here though... Thank you for watching and for your comment!

Why is it not good to use something that sets please? Black rust preventative paint etc
@andrewthompsonuk1
Жыл бұрын
@@pariskennard4540 because all that does is trap moisture. If rust has never started and roadsalt has never got in then a setting rust protection is what you want. For example a hard shell type underseal is good to prep a new vehicle for use on the beach, grease would just wash off.

@@LMAutoRepairs what was the rear subframe like if there was that much rust on the trailing arms the subframe can’t be far behind, also fairly costly replacing all that in an old car.

Good job best to replace everything while it's out as very time consuming 👌 I'm doing this job myself, which order did you fit the arms back in? I've almost done them all but the top one about 1" away from lining up. Thanks

You will need to push/force everything into place, as the spring will not allow for everything to just align... there is some fiddling around when connecting the upper arm etc... 👍👍👍
Just about to do this on an AWD. Great vid but where are your axle stands? I have had a car start to move on jacks on a concrete floor, nevermind gravel. Let me tell you it was very frightening. I was lucky enough to be able to brace it until help arrived. Just throw one underneath to catch it if it falls.
Спасибо очень полезное видео по задним рычагам. Стабилизаторы бы конечно тоже поменять сразу, наверняка там сайленты уже порваны.
As a 2 X-trail owner, 2005 T30(sold) and 2012 T31, they share the same rear brakes and same with the QQ. The desing is rubbish. Especiali the slide pin (goes thru the caliper) and rubber seal desing. Smutz build up between the caliper and the seal lip presses the smutz thu the seal. Nissan/Renault still use the same design from 2001 to present. I need to service/clean them every autum, if not, then they seize. Tell the QQ owner too, that just cleaning/regreasin the pins, cleaning the rust under the bads hardware is the key.

Dang, those were really rusted! Is that due to weak materials or salt on the roads to avoid ice? If nissan uses the same brake calipers as renault (oem) then I can see that as a comon issue. I had a similar problem at the rear caliper of a kangoo 2. Nice work.

@daveshipman2677 You might need to lay down slightly under the car, depends where you want to disconnect it... It will be probably corroded, and you will find it challenging to undo without twisting or damage the pipes... just go easy on it and with some patience... 👍👍👍

Ya these rust like crazy! Jokes tbh shouldn’t happen these days! I got a question off topic, 2005 Astra H 1.7cdti intermittent starting, when it doesn’t start car with spanner light comes on dash, radio displays F and no communication to the ecu can’t read it with diagnostic equipment, I’ve tested all the lives and earths at the ecu all checks fine, tested the can bus lines from diagnostic plug pin 4 & 16 I believe, all other modules say no communication to engine ecu, now I’m thinking the can bus unit in the ecu going bad, is there any thing else i can do other than a new ecu, i don’t have the security code either. Anything you recommend? Can I get another ecu and have the data transferred? Many thanks 🙏
@LMAutoRepairs
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Yes, you should be able to transfer the data... But with the correct tools, it is easier to just get the pin from your car, and program a replacement... Just remember, the replacement, you need to get it already reset, or you need to get it supplied with the pin code... Thank you for watching and for your comment!
