@@LordDaveKoresh Maybe. Mine is barely past 50k miles. I mostly drive on A roads with a 60mph limit, and 30-40 when passing villages. I've managed 45mpg once on a trip. I drive in sport mode but baby the throttle, so spend a lot of time in EV. I also only use premium E5 petrol. Of course this is what the trip computer says, so it might be fooling me.

You know nothing of these cars. I have the Infiniti version and if theres something they are, its bland. Way too noisy, average ride quality and even if the drive pretends to be sporty, youll struggle to keep with a ford focus on curvy roads. Its a very decent car for cheap but worse in every department next to its rivals. Mine also has all kind of rattles even though it looks and feels very well put together. Its a very hit and miss car overall. No wonder everyone bought the germans instead. It was quite expensive too for an old heavy platform powered by old inefficient engines. The hybrid had issues and was not very smooth in both the brake regen transition to friction and the ice-ev transitions.

@@an-dr6eu Yeah, much as I love me a JDM saloon with a big engine in the front, and rear wheel drive - the Fuga is not a good example. The V8 version does at least have the excellent VK V8 in it - and even the various VQ models are decent enough for a V6 - but that's really where it ends.

@@Beer_Dad1975 My biggest gripe with them is how deficient the sound insulation is and how much the damping of the car struggles with road imperfections, plus the front seats are not very comfy nor supportive. Everything else, everything you touch and feel and look at looks exceptional. It looks weird when watching on a screen but live, it absolutely looks fantastic. Top notch materials all over the place. Nappa leather, padded plastics even in the lower sections, everything motorized. Technology wise is quite a complete package too, for its era. But a luxury car like this must be first and foremost, comfortable. The NVH levels on this thing are just not justified. All the germans have a better ride and probably even the Volvo S90 and the Jaguar XF. An A6 or the E-Class feel like a superior segment NVH wise while handling similarly. The 5 series mops the floor with it handling wise while also being better at NVH. I think only the old Lexus GS was its only rival. While the GS was better on NVH levels, that one wasnt on par with its class rivals either, its handling was abysmal, and all the hybrids sold in Europe sounded like wounded animal moans.

Ah, another "common as muck" JDM import here in NZ. At the moment you'd be hard pressed to drive to the supermarket here without spotting several of these one of its generation and engine variations - usually a 2.5 - with the 3.5 being the next common - the 3.7 next and lastly the V8's - which are still reasonably regularly seen. The 4.5 litre V8 models are quite interesting. If it's really doing 5km per litre - well that's about 14mpg - so something is desperately wrong with it, or it's had the bejebus thrashed out of it. I'd have expected maybe 9km/l or better for combined driving if the car was healthy. Still I don't know a whole lot about the 3.7 litre VK - I know it does have a bit of a reputation as a gas guzzler, but it shouldn't be that bad.

Plasmacluster is something that SHARP came up with, and this car is equipped with some version of the technology. Appliances (e.g. air cleaners, fans, AC units) that put out negative or a mix of negative and positive ions were all the rage in Japan a couple of decades back. Had one of these as my first car at 18, when I was in Canada, bought it used at around 30k cad, drove it about 60k kms/3 years. had a mixed feeling about it, while it looked alright, was decently luxurious, had a very good engine and a very good safety suite and a very nice sound system. It didn’t drive particularly well, steering was way too heavy for what it was, and the gearbox was the major down factor, just couldn’t get it to respond properly and it always had to wait a good few seconds to shift, tried manual mode and downshifts took absolutely ages. Replaced it for a C63 W205 and bought an Abarth 500 afterwards, now I’m back in China with a Macan Turbo, absolutely loving it.

Pretty fair review - I've had my M37S for a couple of years now and overall I really like it. I like the way it looks, the ride, the engine is a peach and its muscular and pretty quick, its really well built with not a squeak or rattle anywhere, the Bose audio is fab and with its big comfy seats and big boot its great for a trip. It does have a few shortcomings though (mainly I feel because it doesn't quite know what it is supposed to be, big luxo barge or sporty) and because of that it feels a bit confused. I do feel that the steering is good and sharp but would be better a bit slower, it would suit a smaller more agile car better than this size car, its just too big and heavy for such sharp steering. Also I wish I could tweak the eco / normal / sport settings of the throttle and gearbox separately. I find myself wanting a normal or even eco throttle (because they allow smoother progress round town) with the gear changes sport provides. Too often in normal and eco modes, the gearbox it sat in too high a gear and can be reluctant and slow to change down, indeed sometimes it even changes up and bogs down the instant you put your foot down which is weird. That aside though, overall its great and I'll be keeping mine for a long time to come and plan a few customisations along the way. First up, I'll be getting a 'bit of an exhaust' soon then I might de-chrome it and stick a spoiler on the boot. Having seen a few all black cars, a few small mods can make them look way more special. Regarding rarity - even the UK supplied Infiniti M37S is super rare, according to how many left there was only 14 registered in the UK in total. I imagine there's only 1 Fuga - this one. There's more M35h hybrids and diesels though.

@@an-dr6eu THe VK engine is an extension of the VQ design (i.e basically a VQ with 2 more cylinders added) - and is very robust, it's got forged internals and titanium valves, and has started to become quite popular in tuning circles as it will handle quite a lot of power without much in the way of mechanical upgrades. Nissan themselves developed it as a very successful race engine. It's not that much heavier than the VQ37 in VK45 guise - roughly 20% - so perhaps 25-30kg at most. Yes the peak power output is a bit anemic, but it produces a lot more torque than even the VQ37 of the next generation - and produces that torque over a wider range, which is really what a V8 luxury saloon is about - effortless torque - and of course you can make it sound quite nice, whereas a VQ will always sound like a V6. Of course the VQ is less maintenance - and as with anything, less moving parts generally makes for more reliability. Horses for courses I guess, both engine are excellent - it's one thing Nissan has always been good at - but I'll always take an N/A V8 over a N/A V6 for a passenger car.

I had an Infiniti G37S 6MT sedan as a company car in the USA. It replaced an E90 325 6MT with the Sports package. It was a lot of car for the price, awesome big brakes on the model I had but although it was quick, the engine was rough at higher revs and the handling pretty hairy if you were really on it. All in all a markedly inferior drivers car than the BMW even though it was much quicker but great value.

That VQ engine likes to rev and makes nice linear power all the way to 7500rpm. But as Jay said, it lacks real-world torque (in the lower rev range). I put a cheap X-Force catback in my 370Z and without a word of a lie it transformed the car. I was going round corners in third instead of second, or fourth instead of third. It made that much difference to the power delivery between 2,000ish and 4,000 revs. And no downside I could detect.

James, I am a long time viewer and admirer of your car reviews but I have to say that you are absolutely useless at foreign languages. "Fuga" is Italian for escape or getaway. That's how the average Italian would use the word because unlike you, they don't use Google Translate. Italians would use "fuga" to mean a leak only if referring specifically to a gas leak, otherwise for liquids they would use "perdida," literally a loss, or "fuoriuscita", literally an outgoing. Also, it is pronounced _foo-ga_ not _few-ga_ as letter _u_ is pronounced like the _oo_ in tool not like _ue_ in fuel. "Cima" btw is also an Italian word and it means peak, as in a mountain top. It is pronounced _chee-ma_ not _seam-a._ In Italian, the letter _c_ followed by an _i_ or an _e_ has the same sound as _ch_ in English, hence _ci_ is pronounced like the first syllable in Chicago not the first syllable in cheese let alone the first syllable in sheep.
