Nissan Frontier Review - Thoughts After An Overland Adventure

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Rogue Overland Crew was invited by @Nissan USA to test out the redesigned 2022 Nissan Frontier. This Nissan Frontier boasts comfort, technology, and off-road capability in a muscular package. We take the Nissan Frontier Pro4X on our annual Rogue Overland Expedition. During this trip we test the Frontier's off road ability, road manners, and creature comforts. We use our 20+ years of out door and off road experience in combination with our experience on the four day overland adventure to tell you what we think of the 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4X!

Yes just got mine the other day. Def rides like a cadi!!! The trans is 100× better than the 3rd gen tacoma i had. I test drove a 4th gen tacoma and this truck is sooooo much softer and smoother on the road. Handle the junky ohio bumpy roads well!

After owning my 2022 for a year or so and doing a leveling kit, larger tires etc… i am sooo glad to have bought this instead of a Tacoma. The ride is killer and the transmission is so much better(smoother). Thanks Nissan!

Just got my '22 Pro 4-X and love it, agree with all points. An additional small issue is the driver leg space width. I'm 6'2" and the forward leg room is comfortable, but my knees rest along the extra trim on the inside. The doors have the shiny raised plastic part that, while looks good, creates a rigid and narrow contact point. The right knee rests on the handle-shaped trim on the center console. I feel that these remove 2-3 inches width of you ability to comfortably rest your knees on the interior. Still, not a deal breaker, love my little gray truck!

But for work purposes I had to settle with a sv and get a longer bed I got the king cab and installed a arb rear air locker so I at least have that capability now. But it definitely is a bummer that they don't have a long bed option.

I am partial to Nissan but in my opinion niSSan engines have always put it on toyota. Another comment I'm always making is I have no idea why niSSan quit lifting the 4×4 frontier after the first gen that's just dumb would have been a better competitor to toyota but an equally equipped meaning height and exact same tires frontier against the tacoma well, I'm not going to say the tacoma would be left in the dust but I would lean more towards the niSSan.

Rides great on the road. I was going to buy a gladiator, but after considering 85 percent highway time vrs off highway, I decided against the gladiator because all my friends who own them say the highway ride isn't too hot. I ended up with the Nissan mainly because I don't like how I fit in toyota... toyotas aren't for big people. Anyway, after I got this truck on the highway I was super surprised at how comfortable it really is. Also one odd thing I noticed, the truck feels super stout, I used to be a commercial truck driver, and this truck is so solid it reminds of driving a commercial vehicle. The ride is nice, I mean it just feels super solid. Even my wife who has no commercial experience commented about how SOLID this truck feels on the highway.

For my 2022 Pro-4X.........Rough Country 2.5" pre-loaded lift struts up front, SPS adjustable camber bolts, 2" rear shackle lift and 285 70 17 Cooper AT3 4s 33" DONE. HUGE improvement in ride and clearance. Looks way better too, like a proper off-roader. Still not too high that its a chore to get in and out of, but high enough to look awesome. So happy I did this. Love this truck, but I have two issues, the cruise control is screwed, poorly calibrated, full throttle to gain just a little speed.....and the leather is laughable. There is almost no leather, (only tiny seat and lower back patches) its 90% a rubbery vinyl. Not comfortable when its hot...way too sweaty. Wish the Fender audio (which rocks, and I would NEVER do without) was available with cloth.

I have driven one off road, more than once (my brother's partner has a Pro4X). I was actually super surprised by it tbh. The ONLY issue I had were the tires.. They did not do well in wet trails in thin mud. It was sliding a lot, but because of those tires If I bought one, KO2s would be put on before I got it home lol. It is a very well balanced truck and i own my second 4Runner, but want to try my first mid-sized pickup truck. I hate the Tacoma seating position and others are going with turbo 4s. I'm gonna have to go with the naturally aspirated V6 Frontier. It will look great on KO2s and a 2 inch lift! I think you are trying to say you used it as a "Camera car?" Lol Thanks for this excellent information!

I'm planning on ordering a Pro4x when they start building 2023 models. I've owned 2 previous gen Frontiers and they were both great trucks. This redesign is basically the same truck underneath, with a new layer of modern tech on top and that's a perfect recipe as far as I'm concerned. The Frontier has always been a durable and capable truck, so there was no need to reinvent the wheel. My only complaint is that the price has exploded, which means the Frontier is no longer the value it once was, but I'll see what kind of deal I can get.

Ok video until the complaints at the end. Overland vs. the rock crawling I did with a H3 is different. The large hood might cause a problem for some, but after driving a vehicle you get accustomed to the hood and all other complaints noted. Just remember, the first few times out in that type of landscape take time to familiarize and become comfortable with the vehicle. Had to rewire my brain from a Wrangler to a Hummer H3 and now, after not off-roading in 13 years, know I will have to rewire it for the Frontier. I can do it.

I wish you guys would have reviewed the older D40 Frontier. I actually think the old one looks better, and I have a 2013 Pro4X that has almost all those features, the locking diff (never failed) and I’ve spent most of the 140k across the West in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and some in California and Washington, never had any issues with 4 wheel, locking diff or downhill assist. I have 2.5” leveling lift, Warn winch and Front bumper, and have just installed the Bilstein 6112 and B8 rears with reservoirs. I’m just saying all the the things said about the old Frontier was just lack of experience. From cost, HP and torque alone compared to Tacomas it just a better value. Some Tacomas are better performers at a price. Sorry for the rant, this as all of your videos are great and thanks for posting. Thanks for the Fronty love from a long time fan!

We are not familiar with any options in the aftermarket yet but surely someone with make some. Hefty Fabworks and P&P Engineering both make skid plates for it.

My wife bought a new 2020 and the plastic interior scratches so easily, it’s just terrible especially the dashboard and doors. She complains about the turning radius as well and I don’t think that changed in the 22. Overall she likes it though.

No matter what changes factory (or you!) makes designing trucks for off road experience someone will always complain. So much theory and to be honest you may need change rocks and paths because always will be something people will not be satisfied.

I would love to trade my Tacoma in for a new Frontier but the only hang up is the turning!! It's doesn't turn as good as the Tacoma.

No one ever addresses the longevity issue of this new direct injection engine. The engine came out in 2020 and still no one has featured 1 with near 100K on them

Eh rather put konis or 5100 billstines swap the spring with a dobsions or arb or ome lift spring. rear just put add a leaf budget way then just buying something just cause another truck has them research first!
