  • @Joe_DeSantis

    Followed this install a few weeks back, some corrections/additional tips to this process. They make a custom 6 ½” Speaker adapter for most Nissan models (part number CECOMINOD020597). This is an EXACT fit into the 350z. Note for larger speakers like the ones Anthony installed and myself you will need another ½ inch to clear the window when rolled down. I would highly recommend getting this adapter as it is no nonsense, exact bolt in, no modification. Just don’t overtighten the plastic seemed it would give way under too much force. Anthony mentions that he may run fresh speaker wire later. What he didn’t mention is how big of a pain it is. I ran new cable on the first shot. If you look online most people seem to be drilling/modifying their door harness to run 14-16 gauge cable through. After reading a few horror stories about how their door electronics were no longer working due to the modification, I went a different route. I cut holes in both the door and inside car and ran a custom loom for only the 14 gauge cable(used a Dremel metal cutting tool + step up drill bit on power drill). Nice part about this all is I was able to mount the crossovers in the kick panels. To summarize it all, you better be ready if you plan on doing a custom cable install. The jump from using factory wiring to custom was pretty crazy in complexity. I used all the products Anthony suggested except the plastic adapter and speaker company, and it came out great. I will say however that I would be curious of what would happen if you just used the fast ring center ring instead of the wave breaker. I doubt there would be much difference. In addition the Fast rings foam, you have to cut in half. The speaker especially the one me + Anthony installed are so large that the rings need to be reduced in size. In addition, everyone commenting on the location of the tweeter. Yea, it could be mounted in a better location, I’ve seen a few threads of people mounting it in the pillar. If you are going to that level, the mid driver is not optimal either. The speaker grill on the door card/panel doesn’t line up perfectly, and the location isn't the best. I’ve seen some guys do some custom work with that as well. In the end how far are you willing to go? I will say for most normal people who enjoy good quality audio, you will be satisfied with setup shown by Anthony. Pictures of install: imgur.com/a/7jpsH Oh and most of all, thanks Anthony for taking the time to show everyone your install procedure

    anthony..i have a question... i've changed the speaker in my doors..but i kept the old tweeters still plugged.. is it possible that those prevent my new speakers from playing the high frequencies? maybe these tweeters still use a canceling capacitor or something.. any advice>? thanks

  • @AnthonyJ350

    @AnthonyJ350

    6 жыл бұрын

    What's probably happening is you have a factory amplified system that crosses over the speakers at a particular frequency. So if you put a coaxial speaker in the door, that speaker does not get full range because of the amp and that's what is preventing the high frequencies from playing.

    What are your thoughts on how the door panel speaker grill doesn't really line up with the speaker? Looks to me like only about half the grill is even over the speaker. • @AnthonyJ350

    Jeremy Schank If you want it to line up better you would have to 3D router a speaker adapter to give it an angle or do a custom grille on the door panel itself aligning with the speaker. If you want to test listen to it with the door panel off and see if you hear a significant difference.

    What freq. is your HP filter and xover rate? Any vibrations? How much power? I've always heard the 350z has cruddy vibrations and poor midrange through the front door speakers and the best bet is to do custom kick pods made out of fiberglass completely bypassing the doors and sail panels all together due to their poor angles and SQ. In other words, how do your Hertz sound? lol

  • @AnthonyJ350

    @AnthonyJ350

    8 жыл бұрын

    I know they angle down but I feel people are nit picky. Sitting that close can you tell the difference? The Hertz are big and with enough power the midrange is strong if you build up the door. I have the Hertz down to 50hz and I think I have a -6 dB slope at the amp right now. I did not turn on the HPF at the head unit or you compound the slope.

    Anthony your super quick response to my question is terrific and thank you for posting such helpful videos btw! I might just do custom kick panels for midbass/midrange using DLS iridum 6.5" 70hz-2.5k, tweets in a custom a-pillar up high 2.5k on up, and after watching your video some 6.5" midbass only running 70hz - 250hz for some extra sound up front. No rear speakers. Anyway, great stuff man i just watched the dip stick video....great channel. subscribed.

    +j pugs I'll be using Alpine Electronics' INE-W967HD head unit and their PDX V9 5-channel amp mounted in the glove box. That way it's hidden and easy for me to tune whenever I want. For speakers I'm doing an odd setup where I'm only using the woofers from the Hertz High Energies and I'm tuning them to only play mid range bass frequencies. So I'm stage the car from the rear to play roughly 70-60 hz and below, the middle will be on a HPF to 60 but I'll cut it off so it doesn't play anything really high and the front will play from 60HZ all the way up. I've never done it this way stage a vehicle progressively like that so I figure I'd try it.

    Funny you say that because I tried drilling them out more but the plastic didn't drill out clean so I cleaned up what I drilled. I would drill them out sand it down and then cover in a grille cloth that matches your door colour. The reason I don't suggest cutting it out is in the real world someone might end up pushing through the cloth damaging the speaker.

    +juancmendez38 Yup, you don't have to cover every square inch especially with a door like this with a relatively good seal. Trying to show all these Tuner guys you can have a sound system without adding much weight at all.

    +AutoStudio Нальчик The tweeters are positioned at head level. I mean you can hear their definition just fine. Now maybe the way it got captured on camera you may think they are angling down for some reason as tweeters are very directional. Rest assured they're not. But what do I know right?

Ahh I know you're one of those impatient people that want me to read your mind and give you what you want to know in 30 seconds. I bet you goggle everything instead of trying to figure it out too. Merry Christmas!
