Thanks, it's actually a fairly simple engine, so it doesn't take long to tear it down.

Question: what are the tell tale signs of a gasket change on a 3.5 engine? a buddy of mine got his gaskets replaced but when he got the car back it look slike nothing was done, meaning the volts and screws all looked like they were not even removed. His car is no longer overheating but he does have some concern.

For the valve cover or head gasket? Factory color RTV for Nissan is gray, if any of the RTV is any color besides that, then they most likely did something.

I actually ended up parting out all these parts on my eBay store. Eventually I will rebuild a VQ for my G35 some day. Anyways here's the rebuild manual from Nissan with all the info: pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/AUTOMOBILE/NISSAN/FX/2003_FX45-35/em.pdf

The crank bolt threads like normal, righty tighty, lefty loosey. If you have a powerful electric or air torque wrench, that will be you best bet to remove the bolt.

Gonna need to identify where exactly the squealing sound is coming from. Usually, it's the serpentine belts.

@@rosstrittler thank you so much! I was struggling to find out the name. I’m working on. A 2003 jetta as my first little project car and the cylinder head and camshaft , which it broke, was rough. So I’m trying to replace that with a new one from the junkyard.

Me and a friend actually tore down a Rev-Up VQ recently and I am currently editing it to make it more like a "how to" video for people who need a step-by-step process, I'll upload it as soon as I can. The parts I have left on this motor are pretty limited but here's the link to my eBay store in case you find something you need: www.ebay.com/str/wr17sales

Thanks man. I'm planning on rebuilding a VQ someday for boost, but this motor is being parted out for my eBay store. This is 5th VQ I've taken apart and I figured I'd record the whole process in one video to make it easier for people doing the same thing. I'll definitely record the whole process when I do rebuild one though.
