Nisa é uma vila Alentejana, e sede de um concelho no distrito de Portalegre, Portugal. Em 1199 D. Sancho I, rei de Portugal, doa a Herdade da Açafa à Ordem do Templo. O primeiro Foral foi dado à Vila de Nisa entre 1229 e 1232, pelo Mestre Dom Frei Estêvão de Belmonte. Os Templários edificaram uma fortaleza que os defendesse dos infiéis e sinalizava a posse desses territórios. A vila de Nisa foi agraciada por D. João I com o título de Notável. Em 1512 D. Manuel I atribuiu novo Foral à Vila. Foram integrados no Concelho de Nisa, Arêz e Montalvão em 1836, Amieira do Tejo em 1895 e Alpalhão e Tolosa em 1898.

Nisa is an Alentejo village, and the seat of a municipality in the district of Portalegre, Portugal. In 1199 D. Sancho I, king of Portugal, donates the Herdade da Açafa to the Order of the Temple. The first charter was given to Vila de Nisa between 1229 and 1232, by Master Dom Frei Estêvão de Belmonte. The Templars built a fortress to defend them from the infidels and to signal the possession of these territories. The village of Nisa was awarded the title of Notable by D. João I. In 1512 D. Manuel I assigned a new charter to the town. Arêz and Montalvão were annexed to the Municipality of Nisa by decree of 6 November 1836 and those of Alpalhão and Tolosa in the decree of 3 August 1853, having been detached in 1895 and annexed again in 1898. The parish of Amieira do Tejo passed to the municipality of Gavião in 1836.
