Aaron, love your work. Can’t wait your new vids. Hope you could enlighten me on one thing. I saw you went through lots of mustangs. What was your routine of adjusting trust and action height? Also, what is your usual string gauge? I just got a mustang and string buzz kinda bothers me. Dunno if I have to make action higher and/or go with thicker strings

@@aserdogman I know this is an old question, just wondering if you figured it out? You might need to adjust the truss rod to add some relief. It's pretty simple and you aren't gonna break it trying it.
I'm always so shocked how this guy is basically a chameleon for Kurt's guitar tone

close but not "chameleon" theres so many factors that goes into a guitar tone its really hard to get it spot on. hes done it a few times tho.

Nirvana's tone is incredibly easy to dial in. All of these videos are just slight variations of that. Nothing special about it.
@daskrunkly3213
Жыл бұрын
@@stillpist not really at all lol. maybe you think you got spot on to kurt’s but in reality it’s probably nothing even close. all the production and nuances set nirvana apart from other bands. kurt’s sound was definitely something interesting instead of bands exclusively using JCM800’s with 4x12 cabs loaded with greenbacks.

Its just too cool
Sounds amazing. honestly better then the original recording with all the compression. this is probably how it would’ve sounded to be there in person.
As someone who has seen Nirvana with & without Pat (mostly without Pat) your spot on with Kurt's tone. My hat is off to you & your passion for Kurt's tone.

Best tone in history of rock period. Most beautiful guitar in history of rock period. Best cover of LaL on yt period. Cheers
Real nice work! Kurt had such a natural ability to make hooks and memorable melodies
Incredible tone recreation, nailed every aspect of the tone of live and loud, nailed the lighting as well, and that distortion is just magnificent, bonus points for that mustang, such a beauty.
This is my favorite Nirvana performance, I'm so happy you did this one!
You always get these tones spot on man!
Absolutely unbelievable 🙌🏼💙🤘🏼 Seriously at a loss for words over what an amazing job you do here.
This is Punk !!!! Incredible Tone, your guitars are incredible 🎸
spot on, sounds amazing! great video mate
jesus christ that tone is phenomenal you nailed it brother
Great work 👍👏👏👏
This was a great video
Great video, I enjoyed it :)
Beautiful guitar + beautiful tone = Perfect❤ This is too good for the word perfect soooo accurate
Sounded awesome JQ! I'm sure it was a lot of work.
I want to tone hollywood rock festival 1993. Best show.💜

Kurt was high outta his mind at that show, imo it was one of their worst shows.
Nice very interesting great reaction it sounds spot on
Grunge on a seven string feels like I've found a missing link
Dang 2 hours ago! I love your channel bro great job 👏
Pennyroyal tea solo was tasty!
Sounds awesome
Awesome vid man I’d love to see a vid on the incesticide album
You have great camera skills!
Perfeito. Parabéns.
Wow. Kudos. Tremendous job. The bass lines being played would really bring out the crispness of the start and end of notes. But then you’d be lacking drums, and if you went that far….. hey, wanna start a band?
This is amazing! One of the greatest Nirvana covers, you did a great job recreating the tone! Also how do you record your guitar playing for the video?
Hey JQ I'm honestly amazed by this video. The quality. The tone. Everything. I just wanted to say that I feel like Kurt used the SansAmp on Breed and not the DOD. To my ears anyways. It's hard to tell since the mix is super thin but to my ears it sounded like the SansAmp

Thanks! Listening back to it, I think you're right.
Great stuff man, thanks for sharing. In the riff of "school" you take out the last bend too early, hold the bend a little bit longer.
The pictures shows kurt using a DOD Grunge pedal at MTV Live and Loud? I wonder what circuit design the DOD grunge pedal is based off of
nice
I didn’t actually expect for a Live and Loud recreation… I’d rather listen to this than the actual song itself because it sounds so good… I didn’t even know that’s what the actual tone sound like without the mix of the thin guitar sound, it’s a lot different and heavier than I’d expect, you’ve even got 2 guitars which sounds very rich with the clean tone!
DUDE THIS SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL!!!
yeaaahhh......Awesome sound.....did you use polychorus or echoflanger on your Radio friendly unit shifter?
Great tone! I have been waiting for it for a very long time. Thanks a lot! Can a normal polychorus also work with these settings?
@jq.guitars
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I had the reissue and I tried those settings, it sounds very different. I'm sure you can get very close on a reissue if you tweak the settings by ear
hey great job, what tunings were you using throughout?
I been working on getting Nirvana tones/effects for 2 years with a gx1 four zoom pedal most of the effects are Nirvana effects; the hardest one to replicate was polychorus lol I got somewhat close
Jq I got a question did Kurt always have the switch up on the small clone
cool
How did you modify the small clone? Great vid!
Best tone on this show I've ever seen! You have a good ear and excellent playing technique. What do you think is the best height to raise the pickups on a Strat for a Nirvana tone?
@jq.guitars
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not sure on pickup height, I just have it as high as it can be before it bottoms out
Sounds great!🔥 Tell me more about the guitar! Is this the Kurt Cobain Mustang 2012 edition? Or did you buy a regular Japanese mustang and swap out the single coil for a jb humbucker?
@jq.guitars
Жыл бұрын
I go over the guitar in the video, timestamps in description. It is a 1995 Fender Japan Mustang I modified.
Fine. You've done the whole show live and loud and nailed it. Only in Breed and in school did you get a lot of noise, it was like ground noise or too much gain and it made it difficult to hear the melody. Maybe it's just a consequence of the Dod. Otherwise great video
@jq.guitars

Thanks! Yeah that's the dod grunge for ya
Great tone! Great playing technique! Tell me, I have a Sansamp classic Anniversary 1999, does it sound the same as Sansamp classic or not?

Could u make a vid 8n you know your right?
What pickup do you recommend i put on the bridge of my squier jaguar classic vibe to have a nice nirvana tone?. Also nice video!

JB Jrs are really good, they're my favorite mini humbucker
which mix did you base it on? to be honest the clean tone is not as accurate as many of your other videos and rfus intro could have been better but it was still incredible regardless, specially the distorted tones. I think i blame the tone on the actual volume since i cant expect you to be as live and loud as the actual show haha and that probably affected the tone from the speakers.
@jq.guitars

Thanks! It's supposed to be like the recent mix. It's hard to get it 100% right with only one cab and 2 mics, but I think I got as close as I could for playing in my bedroom.
I have all those guitars, but after getting my Ibanez 7 string, my jagstang and mustangs just collect dust
Hey Jq I was just looking at reverb and saw your KC mustang and I have been looking for a nice one for a long time and was just wondering if you are gonna keep putting them up for sale there

What kind of amp you got?
I bet Kurt would have switched to Ibanez if you wouldn't have battled guardianship the way that he did

Horrible Gain Sound
You can see the influence of Aaron Rush in your work. You learned how to make a picture and in my opinion something good happened to the microphone. Only you, unlike Aaron, show what needs to be done to achieve this sound.
I sold that mustang around 10 years ago. now its worth like 2700$
