It's hard to rank Nirvana songs but for albums: 1. Nevermind 2. Incesticide 3. In Utero 4. Bleach And that says a lot because all albums and songs on them are stellar

Aneurysm is so fucking good...one of Nirvana's most moshable songs IMO

That’s what made them so catchy! Guitarists we’re always into theory and needing to know every chord ever making the blandest thing ever. Kurt just grabbed one and made whatever sounded good to him

Simple and good is hard to do. He accomplished that.

It's funny how some of Kurt's riffs had an almost black metal quality to them, with the high, ringing, dissonant notes, and minor chord progressions, like Big Long Now or Aerozeppelin. Maybe just coincidence? I guess he was listening to some Celtic Frost though, and he did also like Black Sabbath, which obviously without them, black metal, and so many other metal genres, could never have come into being.

David Grohl said once that was a Celtic Frost/Smithreens tape stuck in their van audio. He said that maybe Nevermind being so sweet/heavy has something to do with that.

couldnt agree more. I've been listening to into the pandemonium for 30+ years. crazy. I'd never heard about the Celtic Frost/Smithreens tape. That's interesting. The Smithereens might be considered proto-poppunk. I can really see this.

The dissonance and noise came from punk music like scratch acid or die kreuzen. Kurt would've honestly hated black metal

Nirvana was the first group whose music I learned on guitar and to sing! These songs are fun to play and just rock out to with friends. As an educator, this is thee way to get started in the world of music. You learn the true freedom of musical expression playing wise, singing, and lyrical composition. There is no right or wrong.

Incesticide is great because it brings some less popular songs from bleach into a new light, in my opinion I think it's awesome these songs kind of got a second chance at popularity

The way the lyrics were written and the simplicity of Sliver made it my favorite Nirvana song.

Incesticide has always been my favorite nirvana album if not my favorite album of all time all songs are different and have a different meaning and feel to them in this album this album is also so unique I've never heard anyone have this kinda sound

Favorite nirvana riffs hands down. That DEVO cover is beautiful and Aerozeppelin is one of my all time favs.

Mexican Seafood was your most accurate & well played (I think) - I got this back when it came out as my 1st Nirvana album. Thanks a lot for the post & also clearly showing what the left hand is more or less getting up to - I can't believe how simple 'Downer' is compared to how cool it sounds! I didn't know the riffs for half of these including Aero Zeppelin - my fav on this album - &'d always meant to get round to finding out or trying to figure them out roughly by ear; so Thanks again!

@@albaniqn the only way you get good at playing by ear is locating the notes on your guitar yourself using trial and error. Take your guitar and listen to any nirvana song and just locate the notes on your guitar. Since most of his songs are just power chords, it should be pretty easy.
