Painting the character as a smoker because she’s French is legit, but she’s supposed to have lived in Miami for the last fifteen years, she would know Americans don’t allow smoking anywhere! But my God Deneuve is good. Pity they never found parts for her in good American movies (back when they made good ones that is)

Jane Birkin a vécu en France l'écrasante partie de sa vie. Et elle a toujours conservé un accent anglais très prononcé.

Rude, hates foreigners, smokes all the time and is bat-crazy... Why that's not stereotypical of french women at all... Of course, it's also a lot of fun, so fine...
