LUL im user Axe im dying a lot but I started to play this week learning yet.

I'm a little late to the party but thank you for this! I've been looking for something that wasn't one of the spinning builds so this is perfect. You rock!

I was farming axe users to see if I could get a better one...they just spam triangle, triangle and run out of stamina xD xD The AI is god awful for the axe users

Agreed, so damn slow and easy to take down. Unfortunately, too many damn remnants are either using spears, dual katanas, or the chain scythes.

Kingo's set is the best for close combat (at least for katanas, dual katanas and kusarigama)

Daan van der Donk I think you and the other people are blind or are selectively choosing remnants. I fight almost every remnant I come across and while most do use katanas, like you mentioned, there are some who use duals, spears, and even the chain-scythes.

I'm an axe player from the begining. It's so easy when u use an axe.

Personal experience so far. Mononobe axe +8, and +6 on armour, i 2 shot every 310 boss in the demon king returns when i get the full combo off and hit with every single hit. However to save on talismans while running the level or when i have time with bosses i use the skill Rage. And just decimate most things with that and a normal Triangle attack as that will usually take 70% off your stamina. However for my offhand weapon i use either the dark samurai axe or katana just for the set bonus extending the skill 30%. it saves a lot when doing yokai realm. Ranged weapon i also use the Ravenwing rifle to get a bit more damage reduction. not much but it helps.

You can also add the rage skill to give more attack power. That with a the talisman that let's you use one less on a set you can get the obsidian set with the mononobe axe, to add more you can also add atack to all your gear.

Been using axe build since the game came out. I just find it so damn fun to use.

finally an axe build haha I've been using axe since the beta its my favorite weapon I use low stance though :o

I wish mid stance for the Axe had a combo ender, like how the sword gets a kick.

Tatenashi Armor. Not sure if its better or not just an intresting suggestion. Also i heard from other axe users that Rage when cast into the axe buffs damage beyond carnage. No hate but. Its not a one shot if you dont 1 hit kill him. That combo has 4 hits or 5 either way dont care just that it wasnt a one shot. Awesome build tho!

I did my first play through with an axe and there are just some bosses axes are too slow to deal with, unless you sloth of course

Equipment any weapon from another set on secondary slot, with the -1 magatama you get free damage reduction

I think axe users tend to use heavy armor more, meaning while they may not be better the chances of them dying are lower. I know I use the heaviest armor I can and I face tank hits all day and smash.

You can further optimize it by using elemental magic to stack up chaos stats, in case you didn't one shot the boss, you can have another go.

I have been using the axe in the beginning a lot as it is powerful. Unfortunately it doesn't fit my play style. It's just way to slow. I'm used to being on point and super fast with reactions. It's great being faster then your opponent! The axe is an offense weapon as most the time you have to wait for enemy to hit and miss so you can whip their ass! It's a great weapon if you can manage it's slower style. You can play defense with it but my opinion it's just way to slow for lots of the enemies. I was battling the beginning executioner boss with an axe and he kept pounding on me, soon as I switched to a sword I shipped his ass so easily! Later gameplay with better upgrades and leveling can make it awesome but still it's for people who are over leveled! It's just to slow at first! Great vids man!

Nice video, I think you should have included a guide on where to find the stuff in the video and If the build is ment for NG+ or late or early first playthrough

most of the people use katanas because its the main weapon of every samurai and the game throws at least the double amount of katanas then anything else so its kinda ligical, at least for the main run i see axes here and the BUT i think nobody tried or even equiped HAMMERS! never seen aanyone talking about it or using it in any guide on youtube :D

The Tatenashi set is a better set option than the Kaido and promotes that you leave your weight limit at or as close as you can to 100.0% for a huge damage buff. Also, being that its a 5 piece it frees up your helmet slot (preferably with a Warrior Monk Hood for tankiness) and still allows you to use a Mononobe Axe as your primary. On a side note, using Guzentenno's Axe with a Yasakani Magatama will give you access to the Obsidian 2pc set bonus of "Rage" skill time, which is loads of damage when coupled with a "Carnage" talisman. For the OP of the vid, I'm not saying that your build is bad by any means, just that its more of an entry level axe build. As you get the pieces you can change over to what I've suggested for more damage output later on. Cheers though on being another axe user.

Its easily in the realm of a 10-15% increase for the axe builds on normal, non-skill based damage while also vastly increasing your toughness value so you don't have to worry as much when you're trading hits. You can roll skill damage on your preferred axe in place of familiarity bonus though if you use Heaven and Earth or Tri-Spark a lot though. Also, like I mentioned before with the Yasakani' charm, you can effectively forego some damage (~5%) to double stack the two set bonuses from Guzen's and a Kaido and just use whichever axe you can get a better roll of effects on. Using the Mononobe though like I said, promotes you to have 100.0% weight even and since you're saving all the points from the intended stat dump into Stamina, you have more points to flesh out your build for say ninjitsu or onmyo magic skills to support your playstyle. Using the set while using a Steel Talisman I get hit for anywhere between 20-100 damage on small mobs, and somewhere between 300-450 from Yokai when I trade hits or catch the random grab. Not to mention your guard ki from having such a high toughness value means you can block every single hit from an On-Yudo doing his 100-hand slap and still have half a bar of ki to kick his ass afterwards for his transgressions.

I'm not sure how far you are into the game and I probably should have mentioned about necessary reforges and skills from ninjitsu as well, I just thought that it would already be implied. On your pants and boots its required to get 2 effects, "Running Speed" and "Evasion Ki Usage", neither of which can be the critical version. Also, you'll want to have around 20ish Dexterity and focus on the passives near the Tiger Sprint scroll that reduce dash ki usage and dodge ki usage. If you've found enough of the ninja hair by this point you can even increase running speed another 12% there as well. The only other passives require samurai skill points and are the usual from the Kasurigama tree of "Shadow Strike" and "Armor Piercer" as well as the axe skill that just straight up increases damage to Yokai by 12% with axes. If you've unlocked the mystic arts for the axe I'd personally suggest taking the one called "Inner Light" and forget about purifying the Yokai realm pools on the ground as standing in them nets you about a 20-25% damage gain as well. Now after all that's said and done, and if you're still unhappy about the move speed and unable to adjust your combos to it, you can always do what the other 98% of the players in the game do and use either "Red Demon" set for the fastest, most Ki recovered armor set. It would also however require you to have the spear in your offhand so you can still use the Warrior Monk Hood. Or you can run the "Kingo's" set and use the sword in your offhand to get the set bonuses. In the case of the "Red Demon" you won't be able to trade the hits necessary to use an axe but you'll be able to run fast, and in case of "Kingo's you'll need to spend more points in Stamina to get to a "B" rating. You'll do even more damage from behind using the Kingo's but at the same time, the tradeoff will be even greater damage received and harder punishes than the Tatenashi set. Kingo's is for the backstabbing, and Tatenashi's is for the in-your-face approach with no fucks given full of pure rage and limbs flying.

On a side note since I didn't mention it, depending on which route you take from my above advice, you'll also have to pay attention to your spirit guardian that you use and shave off points from your spirit stat to just meet the required needed to max the bonuses of the guardian. Red Demon: Use either Kato (10 Spirit)for ki recovery or Shinka (19 Spirit) for toughness Kingo's: Aya-Komori (15 Spirit) is best used in this slot for back attack and bonus agility damage Tatenashi: Atlas Bear (23 Spirit) for high damage or Fuse-Ushi (11 Spirit) to be even more tanky.

im not sure if someone said but you can have agility of B with heavy armor, you jsut need wheight reduction on your armor parts, it should be around 14% less weight

But actually, for this build, running out of ki all the time its actually a pro.

I have seen other good build with axe and it was glorious spin to win.

It's interesting to see that no matter how much you spend on stamina you can't get the fastest tier agility on heavy armor. I've had to invest a lot into stamina to get good agility while using the Youngblood armor. I think it's the lightest medium armor there is. It's neat.

Outdated but; you can with enough stamina. also you can roll reduced weight as a stat on armor.

I think it worths to distribute some points to body and skill till 15 and 10 to get more life and Ki also equalize strenght and stamina to get cheaper points and more stats...

Full tank + battle focus with mad spinner oneshots bosses as well, and that is with zero optimisation from the gear. Doesn't take much to cheese bosses in any way in this game, sadly :P

I don't know if this will one shot any of the bosses on demon king mission on WotS. You need over 60K damage to kill off those bosses and my fanatic crit build hitting 25K per hit on blade spin (3 hit combo) needs like two spins to finish them off. Would like to see the build completed and min maxed though

Cyrus Wu your build sounds awesome. there's roughly 30k damage on the onryoki here..I have to believe with full buffs maxed atlas bear and gear this would one shot almost everything..but you're right min maxed would be ideal.

get attack on all ur armor. I'm sure you know this, but that's my suggestion. Cool video will definitely try this build

Yeah now if I could ONLY FIND A MONONOBE AXE! I've found ONE the entire game so far it's maddening. Only level 55.

Never thought I'd see you do a fat build, MO--pretty interesting! And again, very well-presented. By the way, I notice you're re-speccing. Instead of re-speccing, I want to make new characters on new save files, but I've heard there's a bug where the game overwrites your old files during autosave. There's no way I'm risking my original character vanishing like this. Do you know if the problem's been patched? I can't find a clear answer. Thanks.

Devo Wizro I have two characters mine saves fine. U can be extra careful by backing up to cloud then turning off auto back up, then when u start a new game if it does delete your original character u can just re download it

This is the reason I don't make multiple saves. I'm worried I'll lose my game. Respeccing isn't all that bad, just need a lot of gold to make these videos xD You can always use a USB to make multiple saves though.

Thank you for the various suggestions. It's good to know there are workarounds. But Team Ninja really needs to take care of this. There's something appealing about the innocence of a new character file, where you're finding stuff for the first time again and scraping by with what you have, that just can't be captured on NG+. It shouldn't be fraught with anxiety.

Basil Williams I hope that's true. I'm always interested in patch notes, but 1.04/1.05 did not state this issue has been fixed (maybe it was fixed in a sort of hushed way?). That's what makes it so frustrating...I'd just like TN to state whether they're working on a fix or already have fixed the problem. It seems some people can make new saves without problems while others get screwed...too risky for me without more info.

I just started nioh, picked up an axe, and I already have the heaven and earth skill, my level is lower than 20, i think, just unlocked region 2 any advice?

Prioritize unlock all ki pulse first (allow pulse when dodge, stance chance, etc.) for Axe build, you won't have fun until you unlock mystic art for axe. Try the mad spinner for axe. you will need an axe with skill damage increase, and reduce skill ki consume efffect on it ( element is a plus but for starter you will need those 2 effects on your axe). Run light armor for now (I recommend red demon armor or iga jonin set which you will unlock at region 3 if you are lucky). For guardian, you will want Kato for that skill damage increase effect, although if you are confident in positioning yourself, then go for the bat guardian (aya komori) for massive damage from behind. This game is mostly about how you want to fight enemy, it requires a little skill to always position yourself behind your enemy so that explains how the damage from behind modifier is the deadliest in the game. If you want to tank enemy hit then go with heavy armor like in this video, although early game need a lot of ki management because you will run out of ki so fast. That's why it's better to wait until finish mystic art mission unlock for wearing heavy armor just to be safe. Main stats is just strength and stamina, put some points in heart for extra ki.

Ok I'm going to defend this guy.... If you didn't know.... (Or have never DM'n a board game....) .. if the total damage of a single strike exceeds the maximum amount of health(overkill) but exceeds all previous damage dealt?) Than it's still a one hit. The only stipulation is build skill buff$/perks to achieve the hit. The path taken to execute the "Pat"(R)

I will leave this comment. I still stand by my statement. But agree with all else's comments. This build is a solid dps build ...WHICH can one hit alot of enemies, which is very nice however ... It isnt the (just guessing) Guts or Gatsu build Think some are looking for! Nioh bosses have crazy HP.

I'm surprised you didn't max or even lvl up your Bear Spirit Guardian.

Was the mystic art nerfed? :(

Yo, where can I farm lvl. 150 divine Kaido armor? Noone wears it, so can't farm it from revenants. :(

Kaido set can be forged by defeating the Kintaro guy in the dojo mission that unlocks mystic arts for axe. He will drop the smithing text for his armor and axe. You also can get it from revenants; I got it from them way earlier in the game

It is so easy to take down 750 exploiters with hammer. I am getting bored of it. AI in the game must be terrible, or people must duck big time.

no one uses axes cos its game about samurais, ds is for axes

Katanas in Nioh are the same as Longswords in Dark Souls, every noob and tryhard uses them 😂
