For ports that have two rows of teeth I think you adding low melt creates larger risk of tearing pads on the inner row. Everything else you tinned with low melt will melt and you'll start lifting the port before the inner pads have melted cuz you can't tin them. Just add low melt to the front grounding legs so you can focus heat on the two rows of pads and the front pins will stay melted.

great work
Nice demostration of fine soldering skills. Charging port problems require least troubleshooting but it's always a joy to watch when they are fixed by an expert like you. I have noticed that you used two types of flux in this video. At one point the flux was rather cloudy. Does that flux really annoying to work with as some suggested?
@NorthridgeFix
4 жыл бұрын
I have 2 syringes, the 213 and 559. I use which ever i get my hands on. Usually i use the clear 559. The cloudy 213 cleans easier. Both flux types are good. We stopped carrying 213 because they are out of stock from the vendor and users seem to prefer the clear 559 over the 213
Great job
On these switch boards next time try heating from the bottom, I've had very good success this way.
@NorthridgeFix

I do not recommand heating from the bottom method. You bombard the board with heat possibly creating other issues. It's faster from the top specially when we have low melt on the legs.
1:06 To each their own, but for the past 23 years, I mostly used Kimwipes or even cheap dry facial tissue paper to quickly clean my tips. Still to this day, I almost never have to use damp sponges, brass wool, or even harsh tip cleaning pastes. From traditional Eutectic 63/37 to SAC 305, my soldering has worked as expected. Only on rare occasions did I have to use anything harsh to clean my tips, and my tips have lasted anywhere from 2 to 3 years. This may or may not work for everyone, but it couldn't hurt to try on some sort of practice soldering board.
Thanks for the informative videos . Which low melt do I buy ? I see a different range of temperatures from 58 degree C to 170 C
I was waiting for u to say at the end: "We will do something else in the next video"
nice video iam from Bali Indonesia 🙏🙏
You make tining the pads look so easy. What's the trick to getting good solder on them pads
Can you make a video of your shooting setup ? Which software tools do you use to switch between screens ? Also what’s your camera and microscope settings? FPS ? Thanks great work again 😀😀👍🏻👍🏻

Hello! Recently bought a Nintendo switch off hand. They said that the dock mode was working and stopped at one point. I noticed a bummer of the leftmost pin (switch screen down). According to the specification, this is pin GND. The switch itself is completely working and the light is on in the dock (the dock is working, checked on another switch). The TV also sees the Nintendo switch (as a source via HDMI), but there is no picture. Is it possible that because of him there is no picture on the TV? If there are mistakes, then I'm sorry (I don't know English very well). Thank you in advance.
How much degrees celsius do you use with the air solder station?
Hello, I have a new Nintendo 3DS XL, I have a problem, the console does not turn on. the other day reverse the polarity wrong the battery no longer turned on the console. What do I do to change the motherboard or buy another console
the last pad seems to have a hole in the middle probably connecting to something on the other side of the board.
Sorry, Im learning. How can we assume the solder has liquified in the hidden arra of it is less exposed to heat than the ones we can see?
Excelente procedimiento

Is the non enameled a magnet wire?
Is there a usbc chip? I have been given a Nintendo switch and the guy said the usbc pins were damaged, but looking at the port and looking at the board everything looks fine. Ive looked all across the board and the pins on every component looks good as new.
I have basic soldering skills but never had to work with flux and I’ve got the port off and most off the remaining solder . I’m scared to do the next part but it’s driving me crazy lol .
Awesome
similar repair, but now the SD card does not want to format any sd card. My laptop reads the sd card, and we tried different cards and still nothing? any thoughts?
I have a broken switch that I want to repair, but I've never done micro-soldering like this. I'm scared I'll screw up a connection or have a cold solder. The switch is already bricked and out of warranty, so I'm not sure where to take it if I don't do it myself.
Great Video, I want to buy the Nintendo Switch USBC charging port from your website , are these compatible with the Nintendo Switch light ? Thanks
Whats the preheat temperature..? I rather play it safe than to be sorry later on. I want to get one of these devices.
you didnt put any solder on the jumper wire when you was applying solder to the pads
All I could get in my town was rez flux . Will this work for reattaching if it’s all I have ?
thank s M.r
Great job! Does the jumperwire work for the USB 3.1 RX1- Superspeed data transfer?
@crazyphil7782
4 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a very difficult question. Any wire you add like that is series inductor (resistor too but dc doesn’t matter here). It might affect its function as it is very high frequency. It might be negligible, but it’s not certain. You must check loads of datasheets and technical documents/test reports to know the answer. Or try it yourself in practice for a quicker result.

Because it reflows the solder balls. Only a (very) temporary fix tho, it will fail again.

Shouldn't you test data line too? Seems like the broken pad is a data line.

Why is not necessary to restore a ground pin? (Sorry I’m new to this)
@maickongoulart
4 жыл бұрын
There are more ground pins in that usb-c port. 1 missing pin will not affect the funcionallity, the pads that hold the conector on the board are also ground.
I saw part of the USB-C plastic melt during the resoldering. Is there a way to not have that happen?
@mobius1qwe
2 жыл бұрын
Use lower heat output on the air blower. It'll take longer to melt the solder but will heat parts more evenly reducing the odds of melting the plastic.
Hi, really nice vidz, thanks a lot!! But what are you adding at 7:30?? A solder mask ? What is it?
Hey , help me my Hp x360 cd0077tu showing 0xce000000e error, cmos invalid while booting windows somedays ago its shut down automatically and dead from 4 days today i clean all ports and facing these issue ( 0xce000000e error at time of Startup or boot cant use my laptop for single minute & showing cmos invalid )
@Northridgefix hey did a usb c port replacement on my switch but it doesnt work i installed it correctly i just noticed a capacitor that was missing thats literally right above the usb c port and its connected to the 4th last pad on the top row usb c where can i find one? Can i grab that capacitor.from another board? If so how do i know if its cross compatible
@luisibalaz
3 жыл бұрын
Maybe a bit late, but do you mean the little thing marked with a V in this video? If that's the case, and if I remember correctly, that's a fuse, so a 0 ohm resistor will work, or just a jumper wire But just to be sure, do a little more research haha
@tommyjohnson7506
3 жыл бұрын
I ended up just bridging where the fuse was missing and it worked perfect
@luisibalaz
3 жыл бұрын
@@tommyjohnson7506 yeah, that works, but the fuse is there for a reason, you don't want nasty things to happen to your board, without the fuse it might pass for a test, but for daily use you should really get a fuse right there
Looks like the missing connector has a underneath path into the board right on the center of the pad - if truth its bad design practice. Hope it connects into a main ground layer.

The switch is a whole collection of bad design choices on Nintendo's part. From the horrible connector to the easily fried USB 3.1 ic, Nintendo stays true to its reputation that their devices can be a horror to fix (I'm looking at you, 3DS!)
