maybe, it would still be very much usable in the dock and he could easily get new joy cons. Although f he enjoys on the go gaming of course he likely has another one.

Thermal paste loses a ton of its properties after separating both parts, air bubbles will penetrante increasing cpu temperature. Beware of the temperatures, sudden shutdown of the device or throttling/stuttering while playing. I would for sure replace the paste every time I remove the heat pipe.

It does go bad over time when it dries up, but if you disturb the compound and re-attach the heat sink it can create inefficient air pockets that hinder the heat dissipation. Fresh compound is the key! I recommend Artic Silver5.

It should also be applied in small amounts/thin layers. Unfortunately, the build quality of this product appears to prevent this. Gotta glob it on. So in this case, you'd probably be fine to just scrape it into a glob in the center of the contact area so that it makes good contact when it squishes back together. New thermal paste would of course be better, but be sure to use something viscous enough to keep its place bridging the gaps.

I think you should do a teardown of a Nintendo 3DS system, maybe an older model, because I know they're a pain in the ass to repair. I had a problem with mine where the ribbon cable connecting the top and bottom screens folded in on itself, creased, and messed with the exposure of the display of my system. (Had a bunch of vertical black lines going through the top screen that flickered. And eventually evolved into where the picture display of it looks like it had been messed with, like the contrast of it was really bright, and looked awful. But if I was lucky, it would flicker back to normal) My boyfriend tried fixing it by reseating said cables, because he thought they were just loose cables sticking out. By doing that, it ended up folding the cable even more and tearing it. Bought me a new screen with new ribbon cables 3 separate occasions, tried to reassemble it, but accidently ripped it, and gave up. The system was well loved. It had a little funeral. And he bought me a New Nintendo 3ds xl. So I was curious it if would be as much of a pain for you to take apart and put back together then it was for him. Love your videos!

I have gotten a signal briefly to the tv if I adjust it in a certain way and after taking it apart the first time I got a strong signal almost immediately, turns out my usb c port is slightly obstructed from the bending of the case.

Same market strategy as apple. Prevent consumers from repairing thier own systems. Thus creating revenue through repair and maintenance which only Nintendo can do. The idea here is to create a "locked" system. P.S. if anything breaks on your Nintendo, you're supposed to ship it back to them.
