Fun fact, the gamecube actually had more horsepower than the PS2.

In a lot of aspects yes. And in a very few aspects more powerful than the xbox, xbox still annihilated PS2 GC and DC in brute power though.

The Nintendo Game Cube is one of the most nostalgic game consoles I've ever had the pleasure of playing when I was a kid. Around the year of 2005 or 2006, on Christmas Day, my siblings and I opened up a package (from what I believed to be Santa at the time). Tearing that wrapping paper off, I excitedly shouted "Xbox!" However, it wasn't an Xbox, instead, it was none other than the Nintendo Game Cube - the first console that my family had owned. By that point in time, I was familiar with game consoles. I had played on my neighbor's original Xbox, which was in his room. I played "Halo: Combat Evolved", "Star Wars Battlefront 2", and other games with my friend. I had also been acquainted with the world of gaming via Arcades and an old Atari that my Grandparents had. I knew about games and I had gained an interest in them thanks to my prior experiences, but nothing would prepare me for the fun that I would have on this newly opened present from Santa Claus. I can remember playing games such as "Monkey Ball", "Spider-Man" (The 2001 movie game), and even a game for Disney's "Cars" movie. I loved every minute of these games and would play them far more than my siblings ever would. I loved the Game Cube. Even with the love that had grown inside me for the beloved console, only about a year or 2 later (in about 2008), my dad took me to a Circuit City and purchased an Xbox 360. What am I saying with all this? I'm saying this: The arcades acquired my interest. The neighbor's Xbox acquired my excitement. The Game Cube acquired my love and set the path for me ahead because from then on, it was clear to me... I really loved video games and that love would never stop and never will. Now, I get to share that love with my fiance. Thank you Game Cube. Thank you for proving to the young me that I loved video games.

@@Dutchess5 Thank you very much. Though I don't have as much experience as I have on the Xbox 360, I will never forget the feeling that little Gamer Rubix Cube gave me. Thank you for this great video though, really shot me back in time there.

Haha! Unfortunately true 😂 I feel bad for the Wii U though. It could've had a more decent lifespan if the console had a more unique identity.

What was it overshadowed by with its competition? The GPU in the GameCube was superior to the PS2's GPU. The only technological downside was the limited space on the mini-DVD discs.

Love these stories of your introduction to Nintendo consoles) Although, as a hopeless nerd that I am, Ive noticed two inaccuracies: yes, GameCube did have disks with little capacity, but in terms of pure processing power it was the second most powerful console, right behind the Xbox Original. RE4 is a good example of it, by the way. And also, almost at the end you've said that GCN never even came close in terms of sales to PS2 and Xbox, but, just to be fair, and considering PS2 success, Xbox and GameCube sales were more than comparable. In any case, you're making a very enjoyable content, so please keep it up!

Ah nice! This is part of the reason why I love content creating so much. I not only get to share what I know about video games, but I also get to learn alongside my viewers with comments like these. 😊 I didn't know about those things so thank you for pointing them out! I'm glad you enjoyed watching the video regardless. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, it really means so much to me! 😁

I believe the maximum data they can hold is 1.4 GB. Even the PSP UMD Disc holds more at 1.7. The worst was the BlueBottom PS2 CD format discs at 700 MB. And the Dreamcast at 1.2 GB.

I know about these as well lol. The best model to get is the DOL-001 model, for the simple fact that it has an extra input allowing for component cables or hdmi adaptors, for 480p signals. The newer DOL-101 has that port missing completely so it's limited to composite cables (yellow red white) or s video cables.

Hi again! So cool that you know so much about these consoles! 😀 Had no clue that the older model had an extra input on it. Seems like an odd choice to remove it in newer models though 🤔 Do you know why they did that? Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I really appreciate it so much! 😊

  • @califaern3sto

@Dutchess5 because nintendo's component cable sales were extremely poor and i mean not everyone had 480p televisions back then, so that's why they removed it, and I heard the laser on those 101's have faster loading but has a worse life span

Hehe, I was lucky enough to be able to buy the 'mature' rated games without my parents' permission - I just had to put up with entering the 'Kombat Code' on the Megadrive for 'Mortal Kombat' to get the 'full gory experience!'

You need to correct the disc capacity. You said 8.5gb which is what a dual layer dvd holds. A GC disc can only hold 1.5gb.

MGS DOES have the content the employee mentioned, and is what is mentioned in the ESRB's rating. The employee explained it to a parent buying for a minor because they can literally get fired if they don't.

I don't ever remember there being strong language in the game. I'm pretty sure the first F-bomb wasn't dropped in a MGS game until 4. But yeah, I get that employees have to tell parents, it's their job. But that didn't make it any less cringe or embarrassing for me and my brother at the time 😂

It wasn't underpowered compared to the PS2. And it was quite comparable to the Xbox. The smaller game discs does not make it underpowered. Please get some learning.

Nintendo shot themselves in the foot though by deciding to use a disc format that severely limits developers in utilizing the system's hardware to its fullest potential. As far as I'm concerned, it's an underpowered system 😂
