Nintendo NES Console Restoration and Repair - Retro Nintendo 1985 Retrobright - ASMR
In this video, I'm doing some restoration work on an NES/Nintendo Entertainment System. Repairing and retrobrighting the case and recapping the electronics.
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit third-generation home video game console produced by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan in 1983 as the Family Computer
(Retrobrighting)To return the yellow color of the plastic to its true white color
What was used in this video?
1- Hair color-lightening cream contains 9% Hydrogen peroxide
2- Sodium bicarbonate
3- OXI Action
4- Isopropyl Alcohol
5- Sunlight was used as a natural source of ultraviolet rays.
How to Remove Yellow Stains from Plastic
Whether they're from foods, sunlight, or chemical reactions, yellow stains often show up on plastic. There are many ways you can try to tackle these stains, such as soaking the plastic in bleach, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide
Thank you all so much for supporting this growing channel I hope this video helps some of you, make sure to leave a like and share to keep the retro scene alive!

I’ve never own that gaming system but watching you restore it and seeing those graphics brought back memories that will last a lifetime.Awesome display of talent.Thank you.
For those who don't understand why MANY people prefer the original console to modern emulators, its nostalgia. If you have fond memories playing this console as a child, nothing but an original console will do. It's a great feeling to relive happier times.🥰🥰🥰

Nothing beats the NES & SNES game consoles in quality.
Watching them put that nice clean Excitebike cartridge in that filthy console made my hair stand on end

Great restoration, old school can be fun. Can you do a restoration about the Sega Megadrive, that's the one I had back in the day.
Why is this so relaxing to watch ? Grew up with the NES. It was my babysitter , my best friend. I need another

I went back to my childhood :( Sometimes, all I wish is to go back to the past to experience life as a child again. Quite often I find myself lost in the past traveling through the times when I just rejoiced every single moment without thinking of what lies ahead. I just wish I had some superpower to do the time travel.
Something is off in this video, Console which he restore is PAL, in the end he tested with NTSC games cause PAL console suppose to run slower also have black bars on top and bottom

Yeah it was a bad restoration and faked gameplay of NTSC machine. Looks like emulated gameplay it's so clear.

The box says NES on the identification sticker underneath. I don't see PAL on the identifier.
This was and will always be the best gaming console ever.
L'une des meilleures consoles, elle devait passer entre tes mains, un résultat super comme toujours 👍👍👍👍
the most impressive part of this video is finding out this dude has a third arm!! @12:18
It make me happy when I see someone restore an NES!
I was born in 86 and this was my childhood, and now adulthood. Nothing beats the original Nintendo Entertainment System. I grew with this NES. It was my anytime friend, lifetime friend. I need another sooner.
real man you are a great repair artist, I am your fan and I want to learn a lot from you
Cool! Got two PAL NES consoles, one in cosmetic bad-shape and the other one broken. Thinking of using the best parts for the project. Brand new connector will be installed aswell. Never thought about the yellowing of the plastic until I saw your video...but yep that is definitely an issue on both of the consoles. Need to learn more about this, seems to be a elaborate process? Great video and thank you for the inspiration to bring back this beast from the past!
That NES has obviously seen better days. Great restoration
80s baby here this is so soothing to watch i love my nes I'm still have my original one
Really awesome video. After seeing this i wanna buy one now so much nostalgia for me

I wish I was around in the eighties to see The Nintendo entertainment system it would have been cool
I never thought about the bottom compartment area. That would be an excellent stash spot.
Interesting!! I don’t think I ever noticed the edge finger contacts as HASL (hot air solder level). I thought they were always hard gold to withstand inserting multiple times.

What a blast from the past. Next and modern day gaming is awesome, but it's not THIS. I was 11 boy again watching excite bike and Mario bros. I must just say thank you. I've been watching a good few channels and videos over the last few weeks cleaning and restoring consoles (Xbox 360 more specifically) and having discovered your channel, I finally decided to take the plunge and open up my console for the first time after 12 years. What a personal achievement it was for me, considering that it all panned out well. Watching your videos inspired the confidence I needed to do it. So thank you. 👍🏻

Next time, when you show the final product, make sure to get the console's power light on the shot (like the chord to the controller). Looks totally faked (not even showing SMB boot, just straight up at the beggining of the level, lol). Good job cleaning the shit tho, I hope it worths the work for the views :|

Merci pour la video!! Où as tu trouver le loquet plastique que tu changes à la fin?
You were very intentionally avoiding showing that it was a modded nes for some reason. It had a standard nintendo composite or s video jack installed in the rear. Also, it was pretty cool watching you somehow play it with left and right audio cables installed, and no video cable plugged in. Neat trick. 😂 🧐
you should get a ultrasonic cleaner man, it makes things wayyyyyy faster.

I love your restoration. I want to watch when you repair the NES gun, if you want to play Duck Hunt. And where is the doctor duck ?
How much does the capacitor cost?
How much does it cost to replace the motherboard?
Did you buy the cartridge input thing, or clean up the old one? I think that is where ours has a problem. Sometimes it worked, other times not. Now not working at all.
Nice emulation footage at the end lmao

You really need to build yourself a 'bath' of hydrogen peroxide fluid that can be reused and reused, many times. The amount of money you must be spending on single-use-only h/p cream must be insane.

Appliance voltage? 110 or 220 Volts?
I've just taken my NES apart and found a black stain on the circuit board. Do you know what it is? I can take a pic of it, if you need it.
I got a NES at a yard sale a few years ago for 25 cents! . An amazing deal for 25 cents.
I would suggest a wire wheel isntead of a sanding cylinder in the future.
The best tutorial for restoration ✨ NES 🙏
love these types of channels fr
I dont know what kind of NES my parents bought in 90s, but it had many games already intergrated in console, i didnt had diskettes that need you need to put in console in order to play, so strange.
I just can’t believe that there are some NES systems out there that might work after all these years.

As someone who repairs electronits fro a living I’m skeptical on how there was 0 PCB damage despite the rusty EMI shield, nor were the bottom screws even slightly rusty, something that happens as the water or humidity is affected by gravity.

I think this video is fake, mainly due to the gameplay demo. There is no way composite looks that clean, alongside the fact that there is integer scaling on an HDTV, which unless using an external upscaler wouldn't be the case normally.
theres a few other methods that i would have done to fix this vs sand paper a dremel retro brighting and replacing the front loader. but over all not a bad restoration.
How much do you charge for this? I found an old NES while cleaning out my grandfather's garage. it would be cool to see it running again.

The console was dirty as hell, yet the 72 pin and the board pins were pristine. Curious.
That NES look like it has seen some heavy usage. Its like seeing a fond memory being slowly and meticulously restored to its full intrinsic value.
Do you have a link to that screwdriver?
I like how the video signal (yellow) cable isn't hooked up to the monitor, makes me wonder how you are getting the signal...or you are using an emulator.
@chriswells506

Look closer. It's a three prong AV cable. He has the red and white hooked up and not the yellow. Nes only had a single video and single mono audio.
The internal memory affected?

That scratchy crubdown using a hard brush, as well as sanding and polishing of the casing might not have been the best of ideas… 😱
Well, back in the day if the cartridge didn’t click and stay down we used the another cartridge to hold that one down. It worked great……or you can do this. Good luck.
