Nintendo were still DMCAing fan games and melee tournaments when they were in power too

i don’t understand how ports of such old games by nintendo are being sold at full price. crash and spyro trilogies were remade from the ground up and still costed less then all stars.

Because Nintendo can, and we allow them to do it. The Wii started toward something really good, cheap digital ports in entire libraries of games. The Wii U and 3DS did this but at a much smaller scale, now the Switch’s variety here is non-existant. Instead of simply having Mario Sunshine along with an entire library of old GameCube games for digital download around 10-15$ or even 20$ they release a couple games at a time for full 60$ price. We let them do this.

Sega actively hires people who make fangames of their games Capcom also hired someone who worked on a fanmade RE2 Remake and hired them work on the real remake. Nintendo is within their rights to take these fangames and KZread videos down but that does not mean that it is morally right, especially when some of them get strikes for *NO REASON AT ALL* "They already made a statement and become self aware that they don't have to listen to demand" ah yes the same multi million dollar corporation that uses anti consumer practices and is almost as evil as Disney made a statement about the situation which automatically makes everything fine and dandy! @@DaGhostToastRoast Look closer: their games all have $30+ dlc, they have lootboxes now, they sided with cygames (asian EA), they haven't fixed the joycon drift, they started to charge for online for no substantial benefit, they are charging $60 for old games, the switch has an awful bluetooth and wifi anthena, and i could go on and on

Regardless of who to blame, it’s up to us to demand better. EVERYONE should’ve bucked on Mario 3D All Stars. If you KNOWINGLY (I’m sure most parents are unaware of the crime here and just bought a Mario game for their kids, oh well) rushes out and bought 3D All Stars at 60$ and smothered over the “Limited Edition” label, I’m not trying to be negative but honestly you don’t deserve better. I understand Mario Sunshine is probably where they got ya, it’s a game that’s never been legally ported since it’s GameCube release, but still, content like this should’ve been available on the eShop along with dozens and dozens of other GameCube games that haven’t been played in years.

It really is. The extra stuff like special games, deals, and the cloud service is nice but it really irritates me that I can’t play the multiplayer in Mario maker 2 (for example) and it not lag to the point that it’s unplayable.

The fact that we have to pay for it at all is bad. You have to pay full price for games which you don’t even get to play most of without coughing up that extra every month. I already paid for the game and the console, let me play it! Not to mention how the online service itself is awful. The only reason why anyone would pay for online is because without it games like splatoon 2 or mario maker 2 are a waste of 60€.

Also, the IPs are one of things that makes video game companies memorable and recognizable. The problem with overstating the love for IPs is that they wouldn't care much if the game is bad (due to the lack of content at launch) or not, like you said, they buy them because of their favorite IPs.

I feel like Nintendo really took a toll from 2012 - 2015. The success of the Wii made them greedy, thus rushing the next console with lazy additions and poor advertisement. Most games from that era I find to be lackluster, and they straight up killed some franchises like Mario Party and Paper Mario. The 3DS had to carry the weight for Nintendo. They got better near the Wii U's end, with better titles and more 3rd party, but still less than was on the Wii. We got games like Odyssey and BOTW. But then they got lazy again and just started porting everything from the Wii U instead of making new games. This is where they are now: relying on limited releases of old game pack-ins. Nintendo still puts out masterpieces from time to time, but overall, I find they lack the innovation and production rate seen in the 6th and 7th gens - when they churned out new IPs and stellar games left and right. I miss that era of zany, out-of-the-box creativity and technical splendor. They play it too safe nowadays, and it's getting a little generic.

Agreed, but people base themselves on nostalgia way too much for noticing it. The main "bully" issue, while not to consumers, is what made their consoles sales go to peak thing the pre-Wii generations.....ANTI-PIRACY MEASURES You see, Nintendo went by cartriges during the N64 era, while this doesn't bother consumers, it bothers third party developers which made game development harder, while on the PS1, CDs made game development easier and with more storage, and because of that, Nintendo lost some of the greatest games on the PS, the first example that comes to mind is FF7 and because of that, the PS outsold Nintendo (the use of CDs, while making videogame piracy a thing but also allowing the use of normal ones in the console), made the console sell WAY MORE. Same hing with the gamecube but replace the cartriges with smaller CDs, same story.

Honestly it made sense in the 80s because of the video game crash, and their strict guidelines prevented the cavalcade of garbage on other consoles from reaching the NES, but they haven't seemed to change since.

Before Nintendo came back to Brazil, the max price for games was R$ 250.00 (USD 50.00), and when they came back, it went up to R$ 300.00 (USD 60.00). And considering that the minimum wage here is R$ 1100.00 (USD 220.00), that's really expensive.

kinda feel like nintendo is going the same way disney is: good content, or at the very least passable content (nostalgic or recent), but money-hungry

I feel that the switch marks Nintendo’s downfall, they have gotten too confortable and Nintendo feels stagnant and soulless. The 3ds and wii era of Nintendo was the end of their golden age. I am hoping that the steamdeck is enough to get them off of their ass and be more consumer friendly. Also 3D Allstars can be bought at retail still several months after it was supposed to be pulled. Valve in 2020 had a great year and the Nintendo of pc gaming is still really consumer friendly despite holding a defacto monopoly on pc gaming, Nintendo needs to be put in check

Hey, while you may not be a big Melee fan, I appreciate you being open-minded and appreciating where we are coming from. I'm... kind of used to being treated poorly / immediately attacked whenever I mention how much I love Project M or Melee, and I realize how unhealthy just taking abuse from people and shrugging it off is. At least, as a part of these communities, I am not asking for people to agree with us at all turns, but I really appreciate when people understand that we can all like different games and still be friends in the end.

Sorry to break it to you, but Nintendo being shitty towards their fans is nothing new, they've been like that for decades. Particularly when it comes to anything emulation-related, Nintendo is basically the worst money-grubbing copyright goblin you'll ever see in the video game industry. Nintendo would have you believe that emulation on its own is illegal (it's not btw, assuming you have a legitimate legal copy of the game you're emulating it's perfectly legal). They and many other video game companies have tried to fight that battle before and lost virtually every time. So instead, they prefer to just threaten their fans with cease and desist notices for anything they don't like. This is usually all it takes because no one wants to go into an expensive legal battle against a billion-dollar company, even if you know you're in the right. The only difference with last year was that more things had to be done remotely or with the assistance of emulation for things like tournaments. Emulation is basically Satan incarnate to Nintendo, so just mentioning it or using it is enough to get you on their shit-list real fast. Nintendo has a long and storied history of anti-consumer practices dating back decades, if you go looking even a little you'll find a lot of instances of it.

Keep Nintendo's monopolization in mind when you buy games digitally. You put the ball in Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox's court when you start to contribute to the eradication of physical copies by supporting an all digital future. Playstation and Xbox are REALLY trying given they're making digital only versions of their consoles; if we do go all digital there is NO competition for them anymore other than 3rd party games available to one-another and you'll see that inflation. Notice how Playstation also took the step forward in checking their power on the market by charging $70 for their games now. Don't let physical die and don't let stores selling those physical copies die. It's all there now to keep the market in check; don't be foolish and fall for the convenience of not having to get up of the couch/ chair and change your game.

Really only the developers are good the rest are bad

I also want a standardised Steam Workshop-style mods workshop for Nintendo games, where all sorts of mod content can be downloaded - be it a Mario Kart sound mod or a completely new game using the Odyssey engine. Oh well, for now this is a pipe dream unfortunately...

The part about nintendo being the richest company in japan, truly surprise me. I had to do a search and it turns out to be true! However, they're the richest in the sense of "having money" (lots of money saved). As for the most valuable companies in Japan, Nintendo is the 9th (valuable meaning their potential to make money and stability while doing so). Heck, it really pays to be super greedy and disregard the consumer, I guess.

Do all these people actually think Nintendo of America has any pull in how the billion dollar cooperate Japanese company works? Reggie leaving didn’t influence anything. I’d argue iwata dying didnt change much either. Nintendo has been kinda corrupt since even the nes games by barring people who sold stuff using their console from making games for alternative consoles. Having a complete monopoly on an industry then forcing studios to bolster that issue is something EA couldn’t even do. As long as Nintendo has a position of influence they’ll always be like this regardless of management.

honestly, to me at least, iwata's time as nintendo's president was nintendo's golden era. he was an amazing man, i think everyone can agree that the wii and the ds family were great consoles, and whether you like the wii u or not, it had a lot of useful features. it fully emulates the wii, has incredible games, and the virtual console can play even ds games! iwata literally helped make nintendo such as massive success in modern times after the commercial failure of the gamecube. this is just my point if view tho. he is greatly missed, he is probably one of the people who i find most inspiring in life. rip :_( anyways, i hope your having a great day

really rare these videos that are honest and not full of fanboys refusing to see how anti consumer nintendo is. you can't find honest game reviews. i am a gamer (who hasn't been in 2020) but i've been a gamer since PSX and have been bouncing back and forth between any console and pc and well, the cost of games along with their horrible online everything (saves, friends, bloatware shop, etc). i'm left more then reluctant to spend any of my hard earned money on any of their products.

Same! Nintendo has gotten so expensive it's ridiculous. Where I live, the switch costs 350 Euros - which would be ok if it didn't have so many problems. All of my friends who own a switch have the joycon drift. One game costs at least 60 Euros, even if it's a 5 year old game. Meanwhile, on Ps4 and Pc you can get several games for that price during sales. Idk how the fanboys even afford to buy all the Nintendo stuff. My guess is their parents were rich and they never really had to worry about money :/

If Nintendo doesn’t stop this and actually improve, I’m gonna start playing Elmo’s World for the VSmile religiously. As sonic would say; “Come on! Step it up!”.

I sold my Switch collection for cash and a Wii U so I can mod it. Nintendo are a joke and shouldn't be supported. $60 ports and $60 roms on an emulator with terrible emulation. I'll stick with modded Wii U, modded Wii, and a Raspberry Pi 4 when I want to play Nintendo games without paying this scummy company

2 years later and Nintendo Executives still hate us. Closing the e-shop forever with little hope of games (that are possible to port), being ported to the switch

The only thing thats makes them stand to this day is their past. Literally, as long as it has mario, zelda, or any other popular nintendo character, BOOM 60 dollars.

But of course when people see the next smash reveal or next flashy new game they forget all of the bad things Nintendo has done.

Nintendo went into the Switch generation humble after the Wii U. I haven't a doubt in my mind we'll have a PS3 launch situation with their next console because of how anti-consumer they've become.

I was coming into this video already harbouring an acceptance that Nintendo is not the company I used to know. I’ve seen many videos like this by other people voicing their disappointments and my long-lasting loyal “relationship” with this company and its franchises is decaying. It’s really sad. Mario was a big part of my childhood and to see the company develop the way it has by placing more concern and emphasis on profit gain and consumerism rather than what the real value the product itself has to offer, I’d almost rather see it all die while they were still doing good than to see it continuing devolving with the knowledge that they could’ve done better but chose to ignore it. If the company doesn’t do better, I’ll be losing the one thing that was a big part of me. Sorry if that sounds weird or dramatic but it’d just feel like the end of an era for me. A bad end.

I think it's perfectly understandable. I'm using my Switch less and less ever since I got a PC just because of how much better it is compared to the Switch and Nintendo's shitty practices are icing on that cake. It's hard for me to get mad at stuff like their fan-content policy since I don't really care for mods or fangames, but I understand where others are coming from. But yeah, even I really want Nintendo to step the fuck up and either put their all in their games again AND have better pricing or fix some of their shitty attitudes.

nintendo went back to the leadership based on businessmen, instead of someone who understands games. thats why theres so much bs nowadays. if nintendo ends up leaving the gaming industry, remember nintendo for the wii and wii U (their business pactices more specifically).

The shitty thing they did that was the last straw for me is when they sent a C&D to a mental health charity that was in honor of a suicide victim over a very minor issue no one should care about. It was discovered later that the charity was probably a scam, but Nintendo likely did not know this at the time and were just being incredibly petty.

Maybe I'm taking this a little to personally, but I feel really betrayed. I remember in the Wii U when I constantly hoped that Nintendo would turn things around and I had faith in them. Now to see them become this monster, it's pretty sad

The only game I bought on Nintendo Switch in 2020 was Panzer Dragoon Remake, never cared about the rest and I even boycotted the release of Mario 3D All-Stars.

You know you don't have to buy every single game they release, right?

Super Mario All Stars has four games, (at one point, five). There is no reason Super Mario 3D All Stars should only have three games. We should have gotten at least SM64, SMS, SMG, and SMG2. Maybe a fun bonus would be SM64DS or SM3DL as DLC. All Stars was back in the 4th generation. This is the 9th. Let that sink in.

@@mr.man2712 Past games should be at most $20 if you ask me, even if they have been tweaked. The only time $60 makes sense is if you have a collection of past games, like Kirby's Dream Collection. Nintendo has done this every generation, but it's been FAR more prevalent this gen with all the Wii U ports sold at FULL price. That or just slapping "Deluxe" on the title and barely changing anything. We've been gypped in both 2D and 3D!

Everyone rightfully points out how messed up exclusives are when talking about Sony and Microsoft, but Nintendo does whatever they want and people are fine with. People lose their mind when a final fantasy, kingdom hearts or persona game can't be played on a switch, but someone who only owns a playstation or Xbox will never be able to play a mario game, will never be able to play a loz game will never be able to play a smash game, will never be able to play a pokemon. Some of the biggest and most important games franchises are held hostage by Nintendo and no one thinks anything of it. That's Nintendos most anti-consumer move.

Nice review, i am 35 years old and have been on the nintendo wagon up til Wii(skipped Wii-U) But when i saw switch i jumped the nintendo on train again. I must admit i not thrilled how nintendo drives it's company and you flesh out the parts nintendo need to do better, they got the money to do it. I think 3D All Stars price is fine, sure they're old games but it's 3 games, 20-25 dollars for 64 and 30 for Sunshine and Galaxy if they were sold on they're own but this is all three of them

*I agree with all americans complaining about full prize, but in Brazil is way worst, direct conversion goes from 60 dollars to 200+ in our currency 'n this is actually a lot for us here, we barely can buy official console games due abusive prices for games 'n consoles, just like eletronics in general is so expensive only ppl with money can actually afford them*

The also made Paper Mario: The Origami King. A game that shamelessly repeats problems that the series has been criticised for for 8 years now. If you're not gonna make another Mario RPG game, at least let Paper Mario die with dignity. No one asked for another Sticker Star.

Ok, sorry but TOK was not another sticker star. There are no stickers or cards anymore. It's interconnected again, etc... I do think they are listening to the fanbase but they just refuse to go back to the original RPG style.

@@fortunemuderhwa9318 They also refuse to have any continuity with the previous games. The first three games had common enemies, characters, items, etc. Little things that created a kind of connective tissue throughout the series. Like, would it kill them to merely have Kammy Koopa instead of Kamek? It's not like it would make the games any less "innovative", Kamek is a more overused character than Kammy. Or even just the padlock design from the first three games, or Clefts, Clubbas, Spinias, Dried Shrooms, Merlin, anything. If they're gonna completely change the gameplay, they should at least try to keep some things the same, even just superficial stuff, to avoid alienating older fans. The fact that they're seemingly trying to avoid continuity makes it seem like alienation is the goal.

Nintendo was evil since 1996. The N64 used cartridges still which were harder to copy and the devs also had to make serious compromises. In fact, i would probably say the N64 is the anti-piracy king of consoles (which is not a good thing imo). Furthermore, Nintendo tried to remove emulators as they called emulation illegal, but instead went after the ROMs.

Yeah Nintendo corporate is pretty trashy. (The devs and music composers are amazing though)

If it wasn’t for Nintendo, I wouldn’t be loving games right now and some of my biggest memories come from Nintendo’s games but now this company turned into a bully... truly sad

I would consider Link's Crossbow Training extremely meaningful content especially if this version of TP was the updated Wii U version.
