Definitely needs an update 6 years later. Especially with the rise in 3DS prices since this original video. Not to mention that the eShop is closing on March 27, 2023 for the 3DS & WiiU, so that has really changed the different things to collect for each system.

I hope you chose to mod your console by now since the eshop is defunct, the used market is literally a scammer heaven :/ But yeah we definitely need a part 2. You can look for fan translations of JP only games for unseen gems. There are a few quite impressive games like beyond the labyrinth and EX Troopers.

I personally love the 3D effect. It's still amazes me how they do it.

Randy H. I have good luck converting 3D skeptics by “making” them try Mario Kart 7 in 3D. It even worked for a friend who didn’t think the effect mattered for Link between worlds, his favorite game since Halo. Most my time on the 3ds-es I’ve owned is spent on F-zero Maximum Velocity, and is love to have it in 3D. Come to think of it, most of my Nintendo gaming is spent on Mario Cart, F zero, and Fast Racing. Maybe VR emulators somewhere in our future will allow easy adding of 3D to these games.

3DS is easily my favorite system of all-time. Having it's own library of amazing games is one thing but being compatible with DS games is just sick. Being a portable too is just icing on the cake.

And it’s also a hackers dream handheld. If you jail break a 3DS, it becomes one of the best consoles of all time. Everything from NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, heck, even N64, plus every DS & 3DS ever made. If you slam a big enough SD card in there, you can literally have enough games on there to play for the next 20 years.

@@leeartlee915 This. I always held onto my New 3ds XL because I loved the Zelda games, but installing custom firmware on it has changed the game. Add in a custom 3d printed grip for my hands and a 256gb SD card, and I'm good to go. Literally it's only downfall is lack of replacement batteries, or upgrade options.

It definitely seems like the nintendo switch is almost confirmation that is like the death of traditional handheld systems unfortunately. I mean, i do love the fact that the switch does both handheld and straight to tv. But there was a huge charm to having both. The playstation Vita also did not do to well either. It is unfortunate that cell phones in the modern age do not help either. Alot of developers are switching to mobile phones instead as well.

Yah it is unfortunate that it doesn't seem like we won't see a traditional handheld system again in the future. The switch can do both handheld or straight to TV. The playstation Vita was pretty cool, but all the handheld systems are also competing with mobile phones. So it just seems like the traditional handheld market by nintendo and sony is gone now.

5. Super Mario 3D Land 4. Pokemon X 3. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon 2. Mario Kart 7 1. Resident Evil Revelations (but only with CPP/New 3DS, otherwise move it to 5 and the others up.) I love the 3DS, and only about 2 weeks ago updated to a New 3DS XL. The system has tons of great games, and really does have something for everyone. I've spent most of my time recently in PokeMoon and Pokemon Picross :)

MetalJesusRocks Well for hidden gems think digital is where you find them, as outside of games like Code of Princess, I can't think of many 3DS games that felt like they went underappreciated, or had low sales. So for hidden gems something like BoxBoy, or Rhythm Heaven Paradise (not sure on the name for the 3DS entry) would count. Also My Nintendo users got a digital download for Warioware Touched earlier this year, and a Picross game as well.

I actually bought the OG 3DS at launch for 249.99. I traded for the New 3DS XL, then traded that for an Xbox One S. I just got a Samus Edition 3DS for Christmas and I have just re-downloaded all of my games, including the Ambassador Program games. I really am looking forward to getting back into some of the games, including the Return of Samus. Great video as always you guys.

Yes, the game is more fun if you try to complete the 100% of the game I did it and I enjoyed the game because I unlocked the special world that allows you to play with Luigi and also I unlocked the hidden level(Thanks level), I completed with 5 stars(In the screen to choose your profile slot) :D

Playing an OG 2DS feels like your playing a GameBoy. I also like the different size screens as you can focus more on the main top screen. And DS games still show in their aspect ratio. It's also crazy cheap so your not worried about breaking it as much, although an original 2DS is super durable. I know many people who use og 2D's other than children.

I love my New 3DS XL, and i love the 3D. I use it all the time, it makes the games look so much better. I find it hides some of the bad spots of the grfx in some games too. At first my eyes strained and felt weird, but i got use to it within a week and i don't have any issues (no headaches etc). But everyone is different, thats why the slider is so great.

I've played every Kirby game from start to finish (except the obscure Satellaview games and the Epic Yarn remake), and while Dream Land 2, 3 and Kirby 64 were my favorites, Planet Robobot surpassed them all. Creative levels, good abilities/movesets, fun robobot gimmick that works really well, good music, story, side contents and an incredible arena. Just great fun all the way through.

Well to be fair, the system was a Black Friday only deal. Even if Nintendo continued it, the $100 price tag would have been raised after Black Friday. That's the downside of limited edition. It's limited. Scalpers are ass, though. They bought out a lot of the systems to resell.

Sacred Stones is probably best for beginners, since it's really easy due to the Tower of Valni. 6 and 7 require a different play style. No grinding means you have to allocate experience to a select number of characters.

One important thing about Nintendo Selects: they can include DLC + updates that were not included in the original production run. They are very valuable with regards to preservation.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf includes the Welcome Amiibo update. My Majora's Mask also included the latest update, but I don't know what that update actually changed.

A good thing if you have big hands. With the 2DS (cheese Wedge one) it is quite comfortable I found. Also depends on game your playing as you may need those extra buttons so watch out for that.

@@dmaskell92 I like the 2DS XL more than the 3DS XL because the top screen layout looks better (I like that the speakers and camera were moved) and it's more glossy giving it a nicer looking display in my opinion, and the game cartridge slot and SD card slot are covered by a protective flap rather than needing to completely remove the back in order to access the SD card. All that I feel like I sacrificed was a little bit of battery life, but in exchange I got a device I like the look and feel of a lot better.

One application i loved was Swapnote. I was really sad when Nintendo canned it. It was so nice to receive messages and drawings. Also, I remember using that Nintendo Video app all the time to see new episodes of dinosaur office.

I bought the Kirby game because of this video (my first ever kirby game) and damn it's so much fun, just beat the first main boss. I was actually surprised / impressed a lot by the boss battle, it was really well made. The 3D is awesome too. Can't wait to progress further and see what's next.

Why get a 3ds? If you aren’t going to use the 3D function get the 2DS because it’s smaller and has no 3D function. It’s also around $80 at GameStop. Also if you want a hinge feature buy the 2DS XL that just came out

I got a pink Nintendo 3ds xl today that was on the roadside in a free box. It even had a copy of starfox command in it as well as some sweet games on the virtual console. I took it home and charged it up and it works great. Best find EVER!!!

3DS is my fav handheld ever and I use it with 3d on full blast all the time. It's amazing. The very first model was challenging but the more recent models are amazing.

She's a MH fan.

Another thing you should watch out for is that the XL models have larger screens but the resolution is the same. So you may notice that the resolution looks less crisp on the xl.

Dario Llanos no I have 3ds xl and games looks fine, virtual console games however are a different resolution kinda like a game boy resolution if that makes sense but all 3ds games look fine to me

I'm getting a Nintendo 3DS and Animal Crossing New Leaf for Christmas this year. Can't wait!!!!

The 3DS XL is a fantastic little console. I rediscovered mine recently and have been playing a load of my old games on it. All I can say is WOW, the 3D on games like Kirby Triple Deluxe is next level. I'm sure there are much better examples of 3D games on the system around, but Kirby blew me away. I've spent the last few years playing around with emulation, so to dig out the 3DS XL and play games as they were meant to be played is just amazing. Oh, and digging out my 3DS XL after more than a decade, it still nearly had a full charge, which was a huge surprise. It booted and I was into a game within 30 seconds! I can’t think of any other piece of electronics where that would’ve happened. What an incredible little system!

You should’ve seen how confused my Mum was when I told her I wanted to go to go a shop that sells ONLY preowned items to buy a “New 2DS XL”.

I got a limited edition employee Gameboy from Nike. It's all black with Nike swoosh on the bottom right hand screen. And it says just do it on the top. The box is also branded with Nike trade marks, have you ever heard or seen one or these? it's from 1997

I love the circle pad pro, it makes it so much more comfortable to just play any of the games in the 3ds library.

Thanks for this information; it definitely helped my buying decision for buying a 3DS in 2024 (and I was able to secure one with a few games for a decent price, despite the price hike.) I had GBA but missed the DS and 3DS because I “was a grown up” but now I’m looking forward to getting into the back catalog in my late thirties :P

The 2DS XL is a freaking awesome deal IMHO, I got one for my son and I love that thing its light weight and I don't use the 3D either.

If you jailbreak the 3DS and install the Luma3DS CFW; you can then use homebrew to unlock the region lock on the 3DS, so there is that option. I did that with my "New" 3DS so I could play any 3DS games from any region on it.

This video inspired me to get a New 3DS XL (I only had the original 3DS back in the day) and I was super impressed! I've been having a great time playing through some fantastic titles in the library. Shame the 3DS eShop is closing, best to snap up the titles while you can!

Hey there you guys hit the mark on your buying guide choices . One you did leave off that you must have in a 3ds game collection: Resident Evil Revelations. Its so good . Ive put in 100+ hours in just the Raid mode

The new 3DS XL's certain serials also had IPS displays which made a noticeable difference in the color accuracy and viewing angles.

I am a Super Weirdo and love 3-D no matter how bad it is. Universal Studios Muppets in 3-D is my favorite ride.

3D fan here. I play my 3DS games in 3D all the time. I have a 3D TV and buy 3D Blu rays. I go see movies in real d 3d and IMAX 3D. I just prefer 3D over 4K. I will never understand whu people hate 3D and call it stupid but enjoy 4K. 1080p is good enough for me.

The games should be way cheaper since most of the developers dont even put much effort into it + there is a lot of shovelware. I could get GTA5 for 20€ new meanwhile nearly every 3DS game costs around 40€ even older ones

Is it too soon to make a follow-up video on this? I got addicted to your videos and I'm trying to get all the recommendations on everything! There are no more games being made, so we could have a definitive top 10 game list? Also, the New 2DS XL came so there's that :D

I bought a new 3ds xl this week. Paid a prenium price for it to have it complete in box and scratchless but I love it!

How much, and which version did you choose?

I used the original model quite a bit with the 3D on, and when I got the new 3DS I found the tracking of the eyes to be a little distracting. It sometimes fails to track your eyes giving you a blurry image specially in the night, and even when it does it correcty, it still isn't instantaneous it king of simply jumps after a while. I honestly prefered when it was just a steady thing and you had to just be in the right position, which you get used to after a while and you would rarely go out of focus. And the worst thing is that there is no option to turn the tracking off. So ironically I ended up using the 3D less frequently than before due to it being unreliable.

The eye tracking is super reliable and fixed the biggest issue with the system, the ridiculously narrow sweet spot. Yeah, it doesn't work so great in a very dark room, you know, because the camera's need to be able to see your face to track where your eyes are looking. If you're playing the thing in normal lighting, the tracking is pretty spot on and you never really notice any shifts while playing.

Amazing video. Very in depth and entertaining. I recently bought a used New 3ds XL for $120 (not sure if that was a good deal or not, but they gave me a charger with it haha)

The New 3DS' Super Stable 3D is amazing. It doesn't use the front facing camera though, it uses an IR camera right next to the regular one to track your eyes and it works incredibly well.
