She was the best.I had the pleasure of walking with her almost every day near her NY apt in the early 70's. We had some wonderful years together.........

Was she happy? I always wonder about that. At least she had good friends like you, which is always the beginning of happiness !

that hat looks ridiculous in the window, but when garbo puts it on it looks fantastic.

Hollywood ought to take an entire year off from production, and just take every 1939 film and put it back up on a big screen again. I'd go to them all.

One of the best screenplays ever. Billy Wilder was one of the writers, before he became a director.

Prologue of the movie: "This picture takes place in Paris in those wonderful days when a siren was a brunette and not an alarm --- and if a Frenchman turned out the light, it was not on account of an air raid ! "

One thing I love about this movie is that it spares no shots. It criticizes Communist Russia, but it also mocks the Russian aristocrats who had emigrated to Paris after the Revolution, especially in the character of Grand Duchess Swana (played by actress Ina Claire).

"The last mass trials were a great success. There are going to be fewer but better Russians." Arnold Schwarzenegger, at his director's suggestion, based his "Red Heat" character on Ninotchka

Good Lord, their comedy is so subtle and effective. It's like the anti-Jerry Lewis.
