Episode 53
Is Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (known as Shadow Warriors 2 in Europe) the best game in the trilogy for the NES? It has a TON of new features that improve upon the formula that made the original so successful. The biggest new addition is the ability for the hero, Ryu Hayabusa, to split himself into two or even three parts! These Phantom Doubles follow the hero around, and mimic his movements. They'll even use your magical sub-weapons!
Ninja Gaiden 2 returns with an even darker story than the first game. One year after the defeat of The Jaquio, a new villain, Ashtar, has risen to power. He wields the titular Dark Sword of Chaos, an evil sword fashioned from a demon's bone.
Using this twisted blade, Ashtar wishes to open the Gate of Darkness, and bring an end to all mankind. Can Ryu stop him?
So how did this awesome sequel get made? In today's episode we'll find out, plus we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:
* How to beat ALL SEVEN ACTS!
* The SECRET to gaining INFINITE LIVES!
* Where to find every hidden SCROLL OF THE SPIRIT OF THE DRAGON!
* Details about your NINJA MAGIC - Always have the right sub-weapon for every occasion!
* Where to find EVERY HIDDEN 1-UP!
* How to access ALL THREE SOUND TESTS! Enjoy the music!
* What's hidden in EVERY POWER-UP crystal!
* The SECRET to getting MORE THAN 100 MAGIC POINTS!
* The best ways to use your PHANTOM DOUBLES!
* How to defeat EVERY BOSS, with or without sub-weapons... even the DEMON itself!
Thanks for watching!

That "shut up Ashtray" part never fails to make me laugh whenever I replay this.
l`ll never forget the 1st time playing this game as a kid and just having my mind blown. The graphics, the story cut scenes and the unforgettable music. This game was a masterpiece and still is

This is definitely the best Ninja Gaiden game!, plus Ashtar is definitely one my favorite characters, I can't wait for the playthrough of Ninja Gaiden 3❤
This is by far the BEST episode of anyone covering my favourite game of all time. The way youre talking , tips like the gamepro days, the informative, and thought process as if the player is playing for the first time. really enjoyable video! :)
I still have my old Ninja Gaiden book I bought back in junior high which was one of the books in the book set of The Worlds of Power books. Still read it whenever I am flying across the country to pass the time and is just a great story! I highly recommend anyone to find a copy and be sucked in a great "cheesy" read!

Ninja Gaiden 3 takes place six months before part 2. So this ending is the ending of Ryu’s time line.

I really love this game it was an emotional rollercoaster lol. I was so pissed when Ashtar stabbed Irene. Then he turned out being easy to defeat. You think you lost your woman at end, but a higher power brings her back.
My first issue of nintendo power was the strategy guide for this game…never did get around to playing it so this was awesome 30 years later. Love it
I should note for fellow viewers that the phantom doubles only look right at 60fps, because it flickers at that rate. At KZread's default 30fps, they're either solid or invisible. (just like NES sprite flicker made to get around the sprite-per-line limit)
@HylianFox3

Yeah, I was honestly confused by the video at first but then realized that the framerate was interfering with the game's flicker effect.
I still remember the ending credits music all these years later. Best NES song IMO. Thanks for the video!

My favorite classic Ninja Gaiden game and also the only one I was able to beat LOL good memories
For my money, this is the best soundtrack on the NES. Every tune is on point and super cool/fun. The song that accompanies the opening cutscene, "Chaosium Sword", may be my favorite NES track, and is one of my favorite pieces of music. (Solstice and Journey to Silius are close)
Thanks my man ..you actually did Ninja Gaiden 2 ..this was always better than part 1 to me..Love your work and the memories watching your channel brings back

I've always liked the 2nd game of the trilogy the most myself too. Ninja Gaiden 2 had better mechanics, graphics, game controls, level design, and more balanced difficulty than the original game.
One of my favorite 8-bit soundtracks ever. That opening title track is SO epic.

Gosh this brings bk memories so much. I remember buying this game, playing it all night long the first night and beating it the next morning. Nostalgia at it's finest. TY
I'd love to see more videos on the RPGs of the NES! Your Dragon Quest/Warrior I video was very fun, but you have III waiting, with its many secrete, side quests, and genre-defining moments (including the notorious puff-puff!)
Hallelujah! Thanks man, love your vids. Keep it up! You helped throughout many a game. I used to suck at NES games, but I started looking at this channel. After beating a few games, I can beat most NES games without a walkthrough. I had to come back to this tho, because, well, it’s ninja gaiden…
This was my favorite game, but I was heartbroken at the thought of the magic of the dragon sword being used up to save Irene. As a child I thought "that means his magic weapon is useless". I did love Ashtar's design.
@bfish89ryuhayabusa
2 жыл бұрын
It's not useless. It's just gone. That's why they had to set Ninja Gaiden III before Ninja Gaiden II.
For the record, Ninja Gaiden 2 takes place after 3, since the Dragon Sword sacrifices itself to revive Irene. So the chronological order is 1, 3 then 2.
I beat this game once... I was in the zone. It was so hard to beat level 3 when I was a kid. I wonder how I'd fare today. Yes, NG2 is by far the best.
Such as amazing memories from my childhood. The best game ever from the nes saga and wondeful ost.

Favorite NG. second one beaten. First beaten was arcade. While the music was epic in arcade, this is just an awesome ride of a game, followed closely by 1, and distantly, 3. Fantastic series story.
I remember completing this game without using a continue. One of the highlights of my nes playing days!
This was my first Ninja Gaiden experience in game. The Nintendo Power Comic/Guide hooked me.
I still have my original cartridge remember buying it in 1990 at Toys R Us cost $54 back then.. thanks for the code 31 years later had no idea it existed.
Beat all 3 Ninja Gaidens as a kid. I loved these games. Thank you so much and I love the humor you brought.
I love this tutorial. This is my favorite childhood game. Great job!
Easily my favorite of the NES trilogy. I love its dep Lovecraftian vibes (which, BTW, were intentional - the game's director wanted to make something similar in tone and theme to H P Lovecraft, but without using Lovecraft's constantly referenced work).
Both the second and the third game were great and challenging. I personally didn't know any tricks and shortcuts (if there were any to assume), so I had a hard time beating them the hard way lol, always fun to watch you play all these classics I've also grown up with.
The opening theme to this game is one of the best intro themes in any NES games EVER. It's right there next to Mega Man 3 and 2 in terms of badassery.

Ninja Gaiden is what got me into speed-running. I have a couple No-death runs.. I also own this game, & I've NEVER beaten it!!! AWESOME VIDEO!! 👍
I had this game as a kid and can vouch that it’s very hard to beat without a game genie or any codes. There was no youtube in the early 90s.
"The spirit released after our battle flowed into my body." The spirit of the Demon.
Nice job! I got through ninja gaiden 1 this time last year while RUNNING behind our NES Bike as part of a wellness challenge. I’d honestly be more scared of NG2 while running, I’m not as practiced with this one.

I finally beat this for the first time today… to think that people can do this in under 10 mins is mind-blowing to me. Thanks for the tips!
Lmao Kylo was so cute at the end sleeping. Especially the little dream twitch he had. Prob dreaming of the ninja gaiden castle collapsing
Best! Ninja Gaiden game! EVER! So wish they'd go back and redo the original trilogy for modern consoles.
The hours playing this and the satisfaction of beating the final level.
Absolutely awesome as always! You bring us joy with your great channel. Thank you!
"That sounds like the breakdown part in the middle of a Boyz II Men song." 🤣🤣🤣!!!! The exact song and part are now stuck in my head.
This was awesome! I can't wait for your Ninja Gaiden 3 walkthrough. That game has kicked my ass since I was a kid, and I never cheated to see the end of the story.
My FAVORITE Ninja Gaiden game!
Seeing the next cutscenes was a great way for players to want to persevere the hard difficulty. This was rare for NES games to tell a story with actual cutscenes like from a comic book. This was the only Ninja Gaiden game I beat as a kid and you are right, even a easy Ninja Gaiden game is quite difficult as I died so many times on the final level and bosses, but it felt so great when I finally beat it.
Gotta be one of the most satisfying game to turnover. Another great classic. Learned a lot from this playthrough to give it another go. Appreciate it
"Shut up, Ashtray! You're about to get SMOKED!!" Damn, that was a good dad joke man.
Something about ur vids that transport me to reading 90’s videogame magazines
1:05:13 Maybe she wasn't dead. Maybe she was possessed or something. She said she feels like she'd been sleeping for a long time and has no memory, which is a staple of possession. Maybe she wasn't used by the demon in quite the way you think but she was actually possessed. It would explain how she was there at the end.
Level 3-1 always got me in this game because it was so dark and very hard to see. I got Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 in 1994 at about the same time.
Jeff Rovin's "How to Win at Nintendo Games" was great, but I've been waiting 30 years for this video.
This is so amazing. Incredible amount of effort put into this.
I wish I could be a living obstacle course for a ninja to jump around. I delight at the thought of him walking on my veins and climbing my bones
This was the first (and only) game in the trilogy I ever played as a kid. I got it for a Christmas present one year. I loved it but I couldn't beat that Baron Spider boss without losing a lot of lives - the next stage always gave me a game over so that was as far as I ever got. The biggest thing I like about this game over the original is that you can climb up and down on all walls instead of just certain ones like the original.
I am so glad that I bought this game on Wii U Virtual Console before this video was uploaded. I even finished the game last month.
this is a wonderful thing to wake up to. of the NES trilogy, i had a soft spot for this one in particular.
Certainly my favorite of the trilogy. Thanks for posting.
I have beat Ninja Gaiden in 22 min. yet still haven't made it through part 2. Thanks for the awesome guide!
I know it's not limited to this game, but those are some perfect stage intro tunes! Dang, the graphics in this one are so amazing! 👏 😍 and these cutscenes are ridiculously long and detailed! I also loved Rob was lefthanded (except in that one scene). I didn't think nes games could look like this, probably because I avoided these b/c hard, but also I was more into the cartoony ones, and this isn't even super late into the nes lifespan. Are you going to do Holy Diver as well, since you're doing the Ninja Gaiden games?

I remember as a kid when I had got Ninja Gaiden 2 & TMNT 3 & Mega Man 4 & I had went 2 my friend’s house & play all 3 games.
Love your videos and love your dog! Keep up the good work!
I always interpret the NG1 bosses as common enemies as more like the bosses from the first game were just normal mooks for the Chaos Tribe. NG2 had one of the best midi soundtracks, but was certainly the easiest of anything bearing the Ninja Gaiden brand mostly due to shadow clones being OP cheese. All that's left is the ridiculously overtuned NA version of NG3 for the old school trilogy.
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I always interpreted like that, now Ryu is that powerful that the old bosses are mere enemies. However, I think Ninja Gaiden III is way more easier, that was the first Ninja Gaided that I finished!
