I just got an es2 last week and so far... no problems. I love it. I hope I don't start having issues. I bought an external battery but now I'm afraid to connect it, I've heard that's how many people start having problems with the control board. I guess I'll find out soon. Turn lights on ride up a semi steep hill. Your board will fail. Mine just did like everyone else's. You have to bridge a chip inside. You buy a new one it will eventually happen again. Shitty yes true damn Skippy!!

Thank you for the detailed instructions on how to remove the battery and controller. Far from wasting my time, you just saved me from 1) breaking something and 2) a lot of wasted time trying to work out how to remove everything!

Thumbs up for this wonderful man who made this video. Segway engineering really effing screwed this up. There are PCB electrical engineers out there Segway, please hire and fix this issue! Had money prepared for this scooter (es4) and now I’m just aborting the purchase.

Tom, no. I returned it and bought an Xiaomi M365 which has been flawless.

This is very interesting. Mine started acting up and I can not use it with the headlight on. I think I have found a fox and will be buying a part to solder on OR perhaps bypass a surface mounted component. Still works well without the headlight on for me. I hope to do an update video soon. Really wish companies would test their equipment brutally before they start production.

TRY to HELP you It is possible but very difficult to do. The 0 ohm resistor is super tiny. You need a very skilled hand and magnification.

I yesterday got my external battery, error 42, apparently there is bent minus pin in the scooters port for it. And that seems to be soldered to this board. Bew board doesn't cost much, but I'm a bit hesitant to open mine up. I'm trying to get it to warranty, but since I don't have a receipt (bought 2nd hand) so not much help, because segway doesn't have support in my country except thru sellers

Yes I basically plug it in and push off then unplug. Repeat a bunch and it sometimes works.

I understand and totally agree that this issue should be resolved by the CS for the price it costs. However, looking at how complicated it is to resolve the issue, I would more than happily replace the use of the front light by a more powerful stroboscope style light to be simply attached on the handle, and those I've read can be pretty cheap...I also recommend to wear the yellow fluo vest at night with a USB rechargeable night light on top of it (it includes a front white light on the chest and a red light on the back which can blink if you wish so). So clearly this is not a deal breaker for me.

That company for the money they earn, nothing should be complicated. Even redesign a trash controller... But.... They dont because each piece is more 75€ (euros) plus transport fees...

I think my control board died over the winter while it was sitting in the corner of my apartment :( Poor me bought it just before winter so I'm sure I am out of warranty. What size are these screws? I have a torx kit but it seems like the scooter uses an in between size :/

When you change de control board, you have to configure as new one right? Again put your pasword and everything right?

I bought es2 and also an external battery (es4) to upgrade from my xiaomi m365 now my es4 is bung and the xiaomi which is a year older still works fine.

Do you happen to know which wires going to motor are the Pos & Neg? I assume it's the Brown & Blue but I'm not sure... I think yellow is Brake... one multi pin is throttle. If you could help with what wire is what so I can connect to a different scooter with 750Watt motor. Thank you so much

I've seen this issue so often. It's why I chose to return my battery and ES2 before they even arrived and instead bought a Xiaomi M365. Sorry to hear these problems, I'm somewhat glad I went for a better brand. Hopefully Segway makes better scooters in the future.

I don't know if you've looked into it, but you can also flash custom firmware onto the M365 to make it go as fast and have the same amount of torque at the ES2 would have with the battery! Only drawback would be lessened range due to higher draw, and possibly hotter motor. My scooter is out with a flat rear tire, but when I get to ride again I'll give results!

Michael Maduske personally I'd say the only drawback would be overheating during long rides. Otherwise, if you're worried you can always update the firmware through the app again to put it back to normal! When I can test it out on mine I'll report back

My es4 just burned up the other day I disassemble it and took everything apart the motor and control board both fried on mine the wires fused together, I ordered a new motor and mother board but ultimately ill be buying the 0 10x scooter next year, no more segways

I recently purchased an ES1 from someone who purchased a truckload of store-returns. Based on the app it only had 40 miles on it. It seemed to work properly except that the maximum speed is only 9 mph, no matter what mode I put it in. Also, interestingly, that maximum speed is reached at 2/3 throttle, and it slows a bit when I put the throttle at 100%. And if I set the maximum speed at, say, 6 mph (in the restricted speed mode in the app), the throttle does the same thing, slowing down at full throttle. I've communicated with the company, and they are unwilling to do a repair under the warranty. They tell me that it is probably a control board issue. They have been very responsive to emails, with a one-day turn-around. They charge $50 for round-trip shipping, $45 for labor, $75 for dashboard circuit, $30 for throttle, and $105 for the control board. So it would end up costing me $200 for control board replacement done by the company. I may just keep it as is for now.

I worked for Bird and saw/worked on thousands of these. If you own one, dump it asap. If you are thinking of buying one, don't. The ES series is outright trash, unrepairable by most metrics. I personally sent thousands of these to scrappers.

Good day Sir, I have ninebot es2 me I know the problem to my scooter? When I charge its like on and off charging 8 to 10sec then its off or disconnected it still plug in then after 2sec its on again or charging again.. I Plug in for 2hrs then its totally off after., then if I check its charge 3bars then I use it for minutes only then it will be lowbat again.. What do you think the problem in my scooter? Brought the segway ES4 back in December problems with the control board spoke personally to the technical mechanic he said 3 things not to do with the segway ES4 scooter 1 do not keep the energy recovery level setting on strong keep always on low.... 2 never over charge the battery allow battery to go to about 30% 3 when charging plug first to scooter then into the wall outlet and is also bad if you ride down a steep hill with the battery charged at 100% and having the energy recovery settings at strong that also can damage the control board that's why the energy recovery level needs never to be set at strong.....

Anecdotal, but my ES4’s board failed a bit over a month of owning it, and I used strong recovery, rarely dipped the battery below 60%, and the beginning of my daily morning commute is down a sizable hill where I have to ride the brakes. Meaning, I did all the things this comment says can cause the problem. Thankfully, in my case, the solution is just to not use the headlight.

Faouzi EL YAGOUBI I used a service account from a seller to input the serial number on the scooter into the computer from the app. I fixed it that way. I also activated it with a Chinese phone number.

How did you know that the control board had to be replaced? I was riding mine the other day and it died while i was riding it. I thought it was the extended battery pack but i took it off. Now the scooter doesn't turn on or charge at all. When have the charger plugged in, the charging blocks just blinks red then green but scooter wont turn on.

Sounds like your controller blew mine did the same with charger the fuse on it is sensitive I'd say get another controller but not really worth it ninebot controller has a really bad design better off with another scooter

I bought the scooter on eBay, from an authorized ninebot/segway retailer, there are many listed on ninebot’s website or, you can email ninebot/segway to find out who is an authorized dealer. That dealer sent me the control board when I was experiencing issues. I no longer have the information of who I bought the scooter from and the scooter was returned last year.

Taking mine as a loss. going to invest in a real off road beast.

Upon installing the extended battery my scooter died completely. Now it won’t turn on or charge. I think the battery killed it apparently the circuit board can’t handle the voltage and melt solder

If helpful. Second battery gets to 100% before first battery. You cannot let this happen! Must stop charging before 2nd gets to 100. And 1st is at like 93. Scooter sucks. Plug in to fix your issue, push off, then unplug before it turns back on. Repeat till it works

I just bought an ES4 from Ebay, and from my research online the ES4 is basically just an ES2 with extended battery. However, the ES4 that I received has "matte black" steering column ( so pretty much all black) compared to many ES2 review videos I saw are all silver (like yours). It is not an ES1 with external battery for sure because mine does have rear suspension. I am kind of confused why my ES4's color is different than others.

Where is that button located? Also do you know what are the 3 Phase wires to Motor Blue, Green & Yellow? I'm trying to wire the ES2 Control to my 2 Phase Motor on my Currie E Zip750 but it has a Blue, Green wires aka Red, Black. Idk if I can just not connect a 3rd phase or is the big Yellow or Blue my Brake on Motor? Any info helps Thank you?

On the battery u will see a blue blinking light you will need to open it up by removing 2 screws or 3 they are hidden under some glue after that u should be able to remove the cover and press the reset button

I completely forgot to update but a few months of use i ended up with the control board issue. :( I still have the scooter today and it works as long as i don’t use the headlight. I attached an external bike light instead. Although im not sure this is safe idea to keep using the scooter with a bad control board. 😬

It's a shame that the scooter is still being sold with this problem, I only drove around 100 miles and it totally failed. Shouldn't be too difficult to make a functional main board

It's poorly made the controller itself has a fuse that's really small and it's very sensitive u could bridge it with soldering but it takes skill to be honest ninebot is garbage they cut corners on the controller board so better of scrapping it or selling it

The blue and brown and yellow connectors are for motor and it's pretty easy u just follow the connection in a way battery is red and black on the controller itself u will see + -

Fast forward 1 year, 2019 things are worse, not only does the controller fail, but it burns and the external batteries catch fire!

They actually fixed these controllers and wires on the new e series scooters

What error codes did you get, it probably was a easy reflashing of firmware

I'm getting a code 18 on my scooter

I had a rattling motor, then error 10, 16, 18, 14 and eventually the display was completally off, unable to turn the scooter on. The battery charging status changed green to red constantly. A strange thing happened: I opened the handlebar and took apart the entire so called 'bluetooth dashboard', the electronical parts below the screen, so I did not touch the mother board. It turned out, that this dashboard was a little bit dirty, no wonder, I was riding the scooter in the rain prior. The worst part is that the built quality of this dashboard is just too low. Also, there is no proper rain protection, so even light rain could damage these components or loose wire connection could be caused from riding over bumps or generally shaking. I took apart the entire enterior of the handlebar, cleaned the dashboard, removed brake and throttle pedal, reattached the wires carefully and put everything back together. Rain and dirt seriously damages this part. Ever since, my scooter works again, at least for now. I do have the feeling that most of the problems actually occur in that part of the scooter and not the motherboard that was shown here. But overall the wires, plugs and electronic boards in the entire scooter are of pretty bad quality. The sealing was clearly done randomly without having proper knowledge on how to seal electronic parts. I guess most of the errors and problems of the scooter are happening by the same principle. Kind of disappointing as it's otherwise a great scooter (if it rides). Hope it could help, good luck!

to understand what fails in these controllers and why is the key to fix that is permanent, these controllers have mofset transistors, usually because of the heat transistors short out. so its enough to replace them. Problem is you need to replace all of them not only 1. another flaw is heat radiatorr that should be on the back of these mofsets in case of this controller its a joke, not enough to take out the heat.

is the circuit board same as bird scooter they use or different

Again this is for your safety. Performing this repair will result in an error 35. This is because your new control board has not been activated - activation can only be done by a certified repair technician. Lastly, disassembly of the scooter voids the warranty. As you can see, they make a defective scooter and they don't want you to fix it yourself, nor use any used parts from another scooter. Imagine if you couldn't fix your own car! Sorry, you can't change your car's ecu... Never buy any product that you can't get parts for!!! Apparently the battery, controlboard, motor and dashboard are coded with a serial number. Very bad!!! YOU NEED TO RECALL YOUR GARBAGE!!!! it is a big safety issue. Everyone please report this to the "U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission" People have been hurt and killed when the control board shuts off!!!

@@YDVN good luck. Fine print on warranty says you have to pay the $175 shipping to get repaired and the $175 more to ship back. Search web, many complaints, wish I could get refund. Not paying $175 times two shipping for repair

@@joseph-is-my-name not if you buy it on amazon, they take care of everything, buying on chinese websites is the mistake everyone made (at least i think so, from what i was told from amazon and if it isn't true i have message proof so i'll get my refund if there's a problem someday, no questions asked)

Your Dad Is Very Nice dude. Is that true? Because I’ve bought and canceled buying my ES2 from amazon because of the good/bad reviews. I’m torn. If they will replace/refund you when problems occur. I’ll risk spending the money.

@@AD-ec3sm if you buy it straight from amazon (in the sellers double check if it's amazon selling) you got a 2 years warranty, do call them first to be sure it's the same out of france.
