It seems to me like every sound made in this song is vehicle-based... EVERY. SOUND. Windshield wipers scraping against glass. DOOR AJAR bell dings. The click of a cigarette lighter, a turn-signal, a car door slam. The low vibrating hum of tires on pavement. A lost bluetooth connection. Nobody on the other line, forget leaving a message. Heavy!!

Thank you for this :) Even if it's just speculation, I can't really see it any other way now. To me, a lot of NIN's songs, especially instrumentals, feel deep but murky, as if the image isn't quite clear, and you don't really know what's there unless you've already seen it.

Fenrir You should check out Matmos ..they do a lot of that kind of foley type music.

One of my biggest fears is my wife being in a horrific car accident at night alone. This was not a fun mental trip to go on but it definitely brought me there. The hopelessness of being unable to reach anyone until the encroaching melody comes to take you peacefully away. Well done.

Definitely sounds like a bit from a suspense movie. Now I want to see this movie.

I agree, and this whole album is darker and menacing. Completely different from Together, and I like it a lot. Hell, I love both. I'd recommend listening more into industrial genres to get a better idea of the sounds. 😊

Sounds more like a pull start two stroke engine. Like a chainsaw. Still very creative dragging the pick along the strings to create that sound. Great return to the old mechanical sound Trent is so good at producing. The rhythmic sounds of motors and automation.

Trent is not alone since ten years almost. he has wife and many children. right now he's pretty far from his thoughts and creativity which made him produce all his best music: downward spiral, pretty hate machine, fragile and most of NIN music. He's another person now and does soundtracks and tomorrow is his 55th birthday! Things change

this track hits very hard for me, ive often referred to being in different relationships like driving different cars in that everyone does similar things but everyone has their own differences, strengths and weaknesses about them. this song for me is someone walking up to a totaled car and hoping desperately that it will run much like trying desperately to make a broken relationship work. i cry to this song thinking about the failures that were my past relationships.

It resembles a more somber and depressing "Eraser" from TDS.

I lost the car in my profile picture a year and 4 days ago. Still haven't emotionally recovered.

well, it sounds like a movie soundtrack. a nice one, course, and this is what trent does, working on movie soundtracks together with a.ross since years. I think a movie soundtrack needs a movie on it. Imo trent music i will never stop to love so much is pretty different. About #stay home escape with me: i'm italian, i'm staying home since more than one month and this is not kind of sound i can escape with, sorry
